Chapter 162: The Raven Was Here
Raven tore reality apart with casual ease.
Hei HUang and Duan De followed him, stepping through the spatial rift, and the reality-warping transition left their senses spinning.
When things stabilised, they found themselves before the First City of the Human Race's Trial Road.
Moonlight poured down like liquid silver while starlight flowed in glowing waterfalls. Streams of silver-white light hung in the air, giving the city a mysterious and grand feeling.
Before the massive gates, savage beasts roared while exotic birds circled overhead. Some were as huge as mountains, and others had wings that blocked out entire sections of sky.
Each creature came from a powerful species from distant worlds. Some blazed with shimmering light, others crackled with lightning, and all served as mounts for incredible powerhouses.
This era was a golden age, where spiritual energy had grown thick across various regions, and the severely suppressed cosmic laws had loosened a lot.
The threshold for cultivation had dropped dramatically, which allowed numerous powerful bloodlines and physiques to emerge. All of them wanted to prove themselves on the Emperor Road.
Since the Trial Road's opening, countless legends had already been born. Ye Fan had also walked this path.
Even now, beings kept arriving from distant star domains to participate in the trials and seek their fortunes.
"We've actually reached the First City of the Human Race!" the Black Emperor said, genuinely stunned.
When Ye Fan had left the Eternal Star, he'd spent a full decade reaching the First City. But with this, a moment ago, they'd been on Beidou, and now they stood at the starting point of the Human Race's Ancient Trial Road.
"What incredible power," Duan De sighed with admiration.
Casually manipulating space and time, such abilities were far beyond his reach.
"Don't stand there like an idiot, let's go." The Raven walked toward the towering city with purpose.
His goal was clear: get the Source of Dao. Not for cultivation, such mortal pursuits didn't interest him. He wanted to feed French fries and ketchup with the very essence of cosmic law itself.
At that moment, several powerhouses riding savage beasts approached from behind. Each of them was wearing a sacred armour gleaming with different metallic colours and looked like divine soldiers and heavenly generals.
Their leader looked even more extraordinary. He rode a beast that looked like a Pixiu and had an aura of supreme dominance.
"Get out of the way," the leader demanded arrogantly, charging forward.
Raven looked at this idiot in front of him, wondering 'Is this... is this the legendary Young master face slapping arc?'
"You dare to tell us to move?" The Raven looked at the idiot coldly. "This fool clearly hasn't learned about the Mountain Tai, it seems. Hei Huang bit his ass."
The Black Emperor bared his fangs, showing snow-white sharp teeth.
With a single gesture, he unleashed a fragment of a Great Emperor's formation pattern that sent all the riders flying like broken dolls.
The scene left onlookers stunned.
Those mounted powerhouses were supreme cultivators from a distant star domain who'd fought their way here, invincible throughout their journey. Even before stepping onto the true Trial Road, they'd already gained fame.
And now here they were getting beaten by a black dog, and that dog is biting the leader's buttocks like cake. How could witnesses not feel shocked?
"Is that really all? With your arrogant tone, for a moment I thought you were worth something, yet I find only small fry who can't even fight a dog, Tch Shame puppy shame."
The Raven's tone carried a mix of amusement and disdain, supremely annoying, yet no one could do anything.
Leaving the wounded powerhouses spitting blood their backside in rage, the trio entered the city.
"Seems new changes will happen in Trail Road and new legends will emerge," observed a soldier in iron armour positioned at the city wall.
His name was Guan Cheng, once a peerless genius who'd started on the path to prove his Dao, but a defeat during the trials had shattered his ambition and left him to serve as a city guard in the First City.
Guan Cheng watched as the Ravens' group entered the city; he had no intention to intervene. After all, he preferred his back free, not in a dog's mouth.
After his defeat by Ye Fan, he'd accepted his fate. He knew he no longer had the qualifications to participate in such struggles.
So he stayed in the First City, serving as a guard and living out his remaining years in quiet service.
The First City sprawled across vast distances.
Within its walls stood various pavilions, all floating and wrapped in shimmering light, creating an atmosphere of deep mystery.
Powerhouses from countless star domains gathered here to rest and wait for the trial ground's opening.
The Ravens' trio also stayed in the city for several days until the trial ground finally opened. Many powerhouses sought opportunities within the trial ground, and as soon as access became available, they swarmed inside like a flood.
Unfortunately, none proved a match for the Ravens' trio.
Hei Huang possessed a Great Emperor's formation pattern, Duan De had the lid of the Heaven-Devouring Demonic Pot, and the Raven could simply... croak.
The trio's combined strength proved more than enough to rampage through the entire trial ground.
Using abilities that went beyond these people's understanding, Raven quickly found the Source of Dao hidden beneath the trial ground. The trio easily got their prize with the formation patterns and the incomplete Emperor artefact, clearing their path.
After giving portions to the Black Emperor and Duan De, the Raven threw his collected potato seedlings into the Source of Dao and slowly nourished and grew them.
"What a complete waste!" Hei Huang exclaimed, his eyes turning red with frustration.
Such a magnificent dog like himself got less care than a few seedlings!
The Source of Dao contained the very origin of the Great Dao itself. If any genius could get and absorb the Source of Dao, their future would shine with unimaginable brilliance.
And here this Raven was using it like fertiliser for potato seedlings.
If those geniuses outside knew, they'd probably vomit blood from pure depression. Their most wanted treasure, yearned for but impossible to get, was being used as plant food!
The First City was just a beginning.
Raven, Hei Huang, and Duan De travelled along the road, plundering cities and trial grounds while seeking heavenly materials, earthly treasures, and rare potato and tomato varieties.
Along the way, they met many geniuses. Some were no less powerful than the powerhouses Ye Fan had once faced, like the Great Demon God and the Hegemon Body.
However, none of these individuals could match the Ravens' trio.
Eventually, they grew dissatisfied with just plundering the Human Race's Ancient Road and set their sights on other races' roads.
Finally, they began targeting some of the universe's most powerful forces.
For example, the God Court.
The God Court's master was the Emperor Lord, a figure who'd once tried recruiting the Sacred Body Ye Fan, but his arrogant attitude had earned him enmity instead.
His Great Saint-level subordinate sent to deliver the recruitment message was detained by Ye Fan.
The Emperor Lord's cultivation was extraordinarily high. He stood just one step away from proving his Dao and achieving Emperor status.
He was already qualified to sit as an equal with the Supremes within the restricted zones. Those Supremes had paid the most tragic prices to survive until now, but the Emperor Lord remained in his prime, at the peak of his vital energy.
In a bloody battle, his chances of victory would be extremely high.
The Raven led the Black Emperor and Duan De into the magnificent God Court like a conquering general surveying newly claimed territory.
They plundered the medicinal gardens and treasure vaults and even left behind a message declaring "The Raven was here." This signature infuriated countless God Court powerhouses.
That day, an enraged roar echoed across the vast universe.
The humiliated Emperor Lord led his army from the God Court's depths. He rode a carriage drawn by nine flood dragons, and his aura overwhelmed the cosmos and shook all eight directions.
His massive army looked like a cosmic torrent, surging with murderous intent.
News spread rapidly.
Learning that the God Court had been plundered and the Emperor Lord was chasing the thieves throughout space, many felt stunned.
The Raven trio's plundering of the roads had already made them notorious, but by provoking the God Court, they'd instantly become influential figures discussed on every road.
The Emperor Lord stood just one step from proving his Dao. What kind of background did they have to dare provoke such a figure?
However, even this was just the beginning.
Raven was not satisfied with this much robbery, so he led Hei Huang and Duan De to the Phoenix Nest, the lair of the Undying Empress.
She was the former wife of the Undying Emperor, and her strength was terrifyingly immense.
Similar to the Emperor Lord, she stood just one step away from proving her Dao.
Raven plundered her medicinal gardens and treasure vaults with usual bravado. But this time, he left a more... provocative message: "Her face is acceptable, her figure adequate, though somewhat lacking in certain areas."
When the Undying Empress read that message, she was so outraged that her roar of fury shattered countless stars.
Precious divine medicines had been stolen, along with life-extending pills preserved from times past. Even worse, they'd dared leave a comment about her figure, calling it small! Where exactly was it small?!
'How dare he, how dare that bastard, once I get my hand on that insolent, I will show what's small'
This went way beyond all acceptable conduct, Way beyond indeed. Stealing was one thing, but calling her proud figure small was the audacity.
The enraged Undying Empress led her Eight Divisions of Divine Generals and countless subordinates in pursuit of the Raven's group. She swore to tear those petty thieves apart alive.
"Maybe we should call it quits?" the Black Emperor suggested.
He looked at the storage space's mountain of divine medicines, rare treasures, magical artefacts, and pills with mixed feelings of joy and numbness.
At first, they'd only plundered the Human Race's Ancient Road, then other races' roads, and later, famous universal forces.
Their plundering targets had grown increasingly outrageous, their gains had grown increasingly abundant, but the enemies they'd provoked had also grown stronger and stronger.
Now they'd simultaneously made enemies of the peak Quasi-Emperor Emperor Lord and the Undying Empress.
"That's definitely enough, Mr. Raven. Let's return to Beidou and lay low for a while," Duan De agreed.
He'd spent his entire life digging tombs, but he'd never experienced anything as thrilling as these past few days with the Raven.
