The John who came through the door stopped in front of their bedroom mirror. She looked at the mirror and there was no reflection of the John who had just entered. She glanced at the bed again, John was awake now and asked,
"What are you doing?"
She turned toward the mirror. No one was there. A chill went down her spine.
She asked, "Bu... but you were knocking. I opened the door. You said you were outside."
John's voice turned grave as he replied:
"It must be them, not me. They always do this."
Novia froze. Her mind went blank. What had just happened?
By 6:00 AM, dawn had broken. The whole family was up, gathered around the breakfast table. Novia had her convocation ceremony that morning as she had officially graduated. She studied at Cambridge University. They got ready, got into the car and headed to the university. Little John sat quietly, staring out the window. They reached the university and pulled into their designated parking spot.
Novia joined her friends while others sat in the audience hall. Applause echoed through the hall as she received her degree.
But their joy didn't last. John who had been sitting beside the parents, was suddenly missing.
Daniel noticed first. He quickly informed Mary and Novia. Panic set in. They began searching the university. They searched every corner but John was nowhere to be found. With no trace of him inside, they moved their search beyond the campus gates.
While searching, Novia found herself on the deserted street behind the campus. A boy stood at a distance, right outside the cemetery gates. She slowly stepped toward him.
It was John.
She asked, "Why are you here? Are you crazy? We were so worried!"
John looked at her and said,
"I know I was buried here 7 years ago. John's body is still in that grave, sleeping peacefully."
She furiously asked, "What? John, have you lost your mind? You are John! What do you mean your body is in a grave?"
He just smirked, "You will know… soon."
One John lived. The other never died.
