Chapter 3 - Come on guys!

The next place I checked was the area where we gave dogs baths and in the spare crate we kept back there for bad dogs. I found one of my favorite dogs and I couldn't have been happier that he survived!

"Huckleberry! I'm so glad you're OK!" I opened his crate door and let him jump on me with his big floppy ears and all his drool.

You see Huckleberry was a basset hound and basset hounds are my favorite breed. The reason he was in the crate that we kept the bad dogs was because he has a bad habit of digging in the yard and a lot of my coworkers don't like to deal with it so they just put him in the crate.

"Huckleberry this will probably be the only time I tell you this, but thank you so much for being a bad boy!" I said to him, and he just kept wagging his tail and licking me without a care in the world. He was unharmed in anyway, cause all the dogs were elsewhere in the building.

I put them in the bathroom like all the other others and then braced myself because I was going to head outside.

At this point, I had saved three dogs and could probably head back home feeling pretty good about myself, but I was not gonna leave any dog behind that could be saved. And before you judge me for not hoping to find my coworkers alive. I'm a realist and there was very little evidence online that there were a lot of humans that survived the green light or whatever it was that happened. But there was several reports from people who had made it that there were some animals that were OK, and given how many dogs there were at my workplace, the odds have at least some of them being all right were better than the humans being all right.

Instead of heading straight for the gates that let outside, I decided to head back out the front and go around to the back so I could survey what was going on from outside of the fences.

What I saw was something good and something bad. The something good was a great Pyrenees, Chow Chow, Mastiff, Great Dane mix named Beans (l'll leave it up to your imaginations on what that looks like), by herself in the yard We called the jail yard. She must've done something bad today like Huckleberry and have been separated from the others so she was completely fine.

The bad news was that she was the only one left alive and not crazy in all of the outdoor yards. Just to put it in perspective we had over 400 dogs boarding with us and out of all of them only four didn't go nuts or at least didn't go nuts and get eaten by the other dogs.

In the yard, I could see the remains of not only my coworker but also some other dogs that didn't go crazy, but didn't make it.

I couldn't dwell on them right now I had to save Beans! The part of the yard where beans was didn't border the outside fence, but it did border a section of fence that was corded off by itself that house a shed.

I ran through the Brush line, Hop the fence and climb down to the roof of the shed, and then jump down to where she was. I hate to admit it, but that was gonna be the easy part.

Now came the hard part. figuring out how the hell to get her out.

Before I did that though beam needed so much needed pets!

Oh beans, you're such a good girl. I'm so glad that you're OK. Don't worry. I'm gonna get you out of here and then you're gonna get lots of belly rubs for me and you're gonna get to play with a few other dogs and you're all gonna get a nice car ride to my house! Doesn't that sound like fun?"

Beans just nuzzled her nose into the crook of my arm and let her self be loved. while she did that, I was racking my brain on how to get her out. The yards were a no go and she weighed over 150 pounds. There was no way I could carry her out but then I had an idea.

I went back to the shed and I got out a small saw. The yard that beans was in was buttered up against the side of the building. The building siding was made of sheet metal and if I tried hard enough, I might be able to cut it open.

Behind the wall that this yard, but it up against was the bathing area where I found huckleberry so that means there was safety on the other side. I managed to cut a decent sized hole into the wall and squeeze through. I cut myself a bit on the jagged edges, but that could be fixed easily with Band-Aids. I was more worried about beans getting through. She was considerably larger than I was.

"Come on beans, you can do it!" She did not look happy about the idea of squeezing through that hole, but she was scared by all the snarls and dogs trying to hop the fence that surrounded us. it wouldn't be long until they got through. We needed to hurry and I think she could sense that.

She managed to squeeze her way through and unlike me, she didn't have any cuts because of her fur.

Good girl beans I told her while petting her.

After beans and I made it through, she and I ran to the bathroom door. I could hear the dogs in the break room and I knew that door wouldn't hold for long. I got some random leashes from the lobby and hook them to all of the dogs collars, except Lulu, which I just picked up the crate she was in and took them all out to my car. Luckily, I drove a CRV so there was enough room for all of them.

Once they were all secure, I ran back inside and grabbed big unopened bags of dog food, every single one that we had. all of it barely fit in the trunk of my car, and I had to put a few in my passenger seat. I figured the dogs would need the provisions. after that I went back into the lobby, one last time went to the locker that was behind the desk and opened it. I grabbed both of my coworkers things went back to my car after locking the door behind me with Kyle's work keys got in my car and left
