Chapter 301: The Sudden Great Melee of the Hills Begins
The Skeletal Griffon, an undead creature with the ability to fly, caused panic and fear among the demi-humans every time it descended.
Facing an undead.
Even in the chaotic situation of the battlefield, most demi-humans would subconsciously treat it as a common enemy.
This was an undead creature filled with hatred for all living beings!
While some of the demi-humans were distracted by the Skeletal Griffon, the sounds of slaughter echoed across the battlefield above.
The Alliance Leader, leading the Heavy Armored Skeleton Knights, was silently approaching the center of the battlefield. He and his knights were all under the effect of an 「Invisibility」 spell.
This second-tier spell was by no means a superior method of concealment.
Those with sharp hearing, exceptional perception, or powerful professionals could detect the abnormality.
This was especially true since most demi-humans had senses that were far keener than humans.
However, in the current environment, issues like the sound of footsteps, which 「Invisibility」 could not hide, were simply non-existent.
Only along the Alliance Leader's route did some demi-humans die inexplicably, leaving many of the mutually hostile demi-humans scratching their heads.
But they had no time to ponder, quickly redirecting their energy toward other enemies.
In an open area at the center of the battlefield.
*Bang!*
*Bang!*
Two warrior-type powerhouses, both standing three meters tall, were constantly clashing. Every collision unleashed a terrifying impact force.
The enchanted spiked club in Gagaran's hands and the enchanted double-bladed axe in the hands of "Demonic Claw" Weijie were both heavy weapons. Yet, in their grasp, they moved like light wooden sticks, blurring into a flurry of afterimages!
"Firm Strike!"
"Firm Strike!"
Two beast-like roars erupted as the two weapons collided once more.
*BOOM—*
A muffled, thunderous roar echoed across the battlefield, unleashing a deafening shockwave that made the ordinary demi-humans' insides churn!
"Excellent! Come on, Gagaran!"
"Only an opponent like you is worthy of this great one putting his all into killing!"
"Demonic Claw" Weijie's eyes blazed with a fiery light as he howled. Forcibly enduring the numbness in his arms from the impact, he roared and charged forward again. "Your head will become one of this great one's most memorable trophies."
"You talk too much!"
Gagaran was also feeling the heat of battle. Any previous thoughts and ideas had long been cast aside. Right now, he only wanted to defeat the opponent before him.
"As a sign of respect for you as a foe, after I kill you, I will eat your flesh and make your power a part of me!"
In an instant.
Gagaran and "Demonic Claw" Weijie were entangled in combat once again.
Dozens of meters away.
The Alliance Leader watched the combat zone that the demi-humans on both sides had deliberately cleared. His pale white eyes stared at Gagaran and Weijie.
A look of greed filled his eyes, as if he were looking at priceless items.
"I should have realized it sooner. No matter how excellent a human's physique is, it can't compare to the racial talent gap of a demi-human."
The Alliance Leader muttered to himself in a low voice.
This "gap" would become more and more obvious as one's strength increased, reaching a level that humans could never achieve, no matter how much effort or training they put in.
"To be able to bear that immense negative energy, only a demi-human powerhouse who has reached the 'Heroic Realm' should be capable of it."
The Alliance Leader's gaze shifted back and forth between Gagaran and "Demonic Claw" Weijie.
In terms of overall strength, Gagaran was slightly stronger, but in terms of physical strength, the Beast-bodied Quadruped race to which Weijie belonged had the advantage.
The Alliance Leader hesitated for a moment before his gaze finally settled on Gagaran.
*Thump! Thump! Thump!*
Suddenly, the ground began to tremble violently.
On the fiercely contested battlefield, all the demi-humans simultaneously stopped their attacks, looking around in a daze.
"Beast General" Hector Weiss, who was leading a team of about a hundred beastmen, immediately raised his hand, signaling all the beastmen to halt.
Immediately after.
"Beast General" Hector Weiss ignored the blood and mangled remains on the ground, dropped down, and pressed his ear to the ground to listen for any movement.
"The sound is coming from... behind us!"
"Beast General" Hector Weiss's expression changed. Just as he was about to get up and command his troops again, he pressed his ear back to the ground.
"No, it's not just from behind!"
"Large numbers are approaching from the east and west. Could it be reinforcements for this alliance of tribes?"
"Beast General" Hector Weiss found it somewhat incredible.
He could just about accept being outflanked from the east and west, but for a demi-human force of unknown numbers to appear out of thin air behind them—how did they manage that?
*Thump! Thump!*
The muffled thudding of rapid footsteps grew closer and closer.
Across the chaotic battlefield, all the demi-humans ceased their actions, warily eyeing each other, each suspecting the newcomers to be the other's reinforcements.
"That's enough, everyone!!"
A sonorous, high-pitched voice amplified by magic or a magical item echoed over the battlefield:
"Stop it, all of you!!"
Large figures of lean and sturdy demi-humans rushed out from the rear and from the east and west, appearing in everyone's vision.
This even larger group of demi-humans was divided into two distinct tribes!
One was a type of demi-human with bluish-green skin and white hair on their heads and arms, resembling apes but with atrophied eyes.
Cave Dwellers!
The other was a type of demi-human with horse-like hooves for legs and healthy, dark-brown skin, upon which were carved various tribal patterns.
Centaurs!
As soon as these two demi-human tribes appeared, they each dispatched a thousand of their own, who moved quickly to the north. Before anyone could react, they had completely surrounded the entire battlefield.
"Silence!"
"Beast General" Hector Weiss looked at his restless tribesmen behind him and barked a stern command. His face, hidden behind a dark yellow helmet, was filled with solemnity.
Even though he couldn't see the entire battlefield from his position, "Beast General" Hector Weiss knew very well that they had been surrounded.
The most important thing to do now was to break out!
However, "Beast General" Hector Weiss did not do so immediately, because the current situation was far too strange.
What was supposed to be a simple conflict and retaliation over a water source had taken so many unexpected turns.
The territories of the Cave Dwellers and Centaurs were in the far north; they were the least likely to appear here.
Something must have happened that neither their Beast-bodied Quadrupeds nor the Beastmen knew about!
"Beast General" Hector Weiss's face was grim as he thought to himself, "Lord Weijie's actions this time were a bit too reckless."
"All tribesmen!"
"Beast General" Hector Weiss raised his longsword, pointing its tip at the sky, and addressed his bewildered tribesmen:
"Rally to me! Get moving! Quickly!"
The enemy was no longer the allied demi-humans before them.
He needed to gather all his tribesmen and his Beast-bodied Quadruped comrades as quickly as possible to deal with what might happen next.
As "Beast General" Hector Weiss quickly observed the situation, he secretly calculated. The strength of the Cave Dwellers and Centaurs wasn't that great, even with their numerical advantage.
As long as he united the forces of their two tribes, they could still break through the encirclement.
*BOOM—!*
「Sandstorm」
"Ah!"
"Argh!"
A sandstorm erupted from the very front of the demi-human ranks, instantly sweeping dozens of them into the air. A series of muffled thuds and miserable screams followed as they hit the ground.
"I knew these Cave Dwellers and Centaurs couldn't control the situation!"
A bold voice emerged from the dust: "All of you, stop! I don't like to repeat myself!"
The magically-enhanced voice boomed across the battlefield. As the sand settled, a tall, burly figure walked out.
An oppressive aura far beyond the ordinary made the surrounding demi-humans' hands tremble!
The twisted horns on his head were like a goat's, and the fur all over his body was a dark, silvery-white. These features clearly identified him as a Goat-folk.
But this person possessed a physique and build far superior to that of an ordinary Goat-folk!
He wore a green breastplate decorated with a tortoise-shell pattern and a reddish-brown cloak made from the fur of some unknown animal over his shoulders.
In his left hand, he held a shield inlaid with a large yellow gem, and in his right, a transforming sword with a pale yellow blade. Even the horns on his head were decorated with gold and gem accessories.
This full set of magical items and the pressure of his powerful aura all pointed to this person's strength and status!
"`Valiant King` Basai!"
"Beast General" Hector Weiss let out a cry of disbelief.
The atmosphere became somewhat frozen.
The situation was unfolding in a way that exceeded everyone's expectations and imagination, one event after another.
"Beast General" Hector Weiss quickly made a gesture to retreat, telling his own tribesmen and the gathered Beast-bodied Quadruped comrades to fall back together.
"Valiant King" Basai turned his head, his eyes indifferent. "Hector Weiss, it's been a long time. The most troublesome one among these people is you, renowned for having the might of ten men."
"However, I didn't come here to fight this time. There's no need to be so on guard."
"Valiant King" Basai spoke in a bold and hearty voice. Then, his tone rose as he shouted at everyone through a magical item:
"This farce of a war ends now! All of this is the work of humans! We demi-humans..."
"King!!"
"Damn Ogre!"
"I'll kill you!!"
"How could Lord `Demonic Claw` possibly lose!"
"..."
Wails and roars erupted from the Beast-bodied Quadruped and Beastman groups, interrupting "Valiant King" Basai's speech.
The situation, which had just stabilized, changed again. All the demi-humans of the Beast-bodied Quadruped tribe began to move about manically.
"Beast General" Hector Weiss's face changed drastically. He had already realized something was wrong with the situation and had begun to consciously try and control it.
But at this very moment!
"Beast General" Hector Weiss knew that the Beast-bodied Quadruped tribe was about to completely lose control.
"Demonic Claw" Weijie—was dead!
"Beast General" Hector Weiss's eyes turned crimson as he looked into the distance. There were only two figures there. One was the ogre Gagaran.
The other was "Demonic Claw" Weijie, lying on the ground, his head severed from his shoulders.
Over on that side.
Gagaran let out a furious roar. He, of course, had not been the one to kill "Demonic Claw" Weijie, who had been suddenly ambushed.
Using his warrior's intuition and keen observation, he had already spotted the hidden assailant and wanted to give chase immediately.
But the Beast-bodied Quadruped demi-humans were already charging at him from all directions.
*Bang! Bang!*
"Wait a—!"
Gagaran tried to explain, but no one gave him the chance to speak. Facing the frenzied attacks of the Beast-bodied Quadruped demi-humans, he could only defend himself and retreat continuously.
And the ogres, not known for their wisdom, saw that the king who ruled their tribe was under attack, and they too began to roar and join the assault.
In the blink of an eye!
The situation, which had just calmed down, erupted into chaos once again.
In a state of 「Invisibility」.
The Alliance Leader watched the battlefield descend back into chaos, a sinister light flickering in his eyes.
"How could I let you demi-humans so easily stop such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?"
As he spoke.
The Alliance Leader's gaze shifted to the distance, to the furiously roaring "Valiant King" Basai. His eyes lit up.
"Tsk, compared to the ogre and the Beast-bodied Quadruped, this demi-human seems more suitable as a target for the ritual."
The Alliance Leader hummed in satisfaction. He looked up at the Skeletal Griffon circling in the sky and gave an imperceptible nod.
"The dense blood energy is sufficient. Now, all that's missing is a current of negative and death energy to trigger it. In that case—"
*Swoosh!*
The 「Invisibility」 was dispelled.
The figures of the Alliance Leader and the Heavy Armored Skeleton Warriors appeared out of thin air in the center of the battlefield, like specters.
The figure, a silhouette of black mist formed from dense death and negative energy, was incredibly conspicuous the moment it appeared. A cold that could make one's very soul shiver rapidly spread out with the Alliance Leader at its center.
He knew that the war he had re-ignited would not last long, so he had to complete the ritual as quickly as possible.
"A human?"
"That's an undead!"
"So that's the guy controlling that skeleton bird in the sky."
The demi-humans immediately locked onto the Alliance Leader.
"Valiant King" Basai's eyes were icy as his figure suddenly moved. "You're the one behind the death of 'Demonic Claw', aren't you!"
"I swear on my name as King, I will use your head as a chamber pot!"
"Die, human necromancer!"
"Valiant King" Basai let out a cold, furious roar full of killing intent, like an enraged ram.
Facing the demi-humans charging from all directions and the gazes filled with hatred and anger.
"Death, chaos, blood, wails, screams!"
The Alliance Leader seemed oblivious to his surroundings. He raised his arms towards the sky, as if in praise, or perhaps in a low chant:
"Only true death and chaos are worthy of that true birth. Let the wails and screams become even more pleasant to the ear!"
"Magic, rise—"
*Bzzz!*
An astonishing fluctuation of magic power poured from the Alliance Leader's body into the ground. A faint, ethereal magical ritual, linked by corpses and blood, connected with the Alliance Leader's position.
"7th Tier Magic · Undead Legion!"
*Rumble!*
*Rumble!*
The soil, covered in blood and corpses, was torn asunder.
Skeletons, Zombies, Ghouls, Organ Eggs, Animated Corpses, Beast Zombies, Bloated Zombies, Decayed Corpses, and more.
Thousands of densely packed undead erupted from the ground with the Alliance Leader at their center. All the demi-humans froze, and the atmosphere instantly dropped to a freezing point!
At the cliff.
The corpses of "White Elder" Halisha, the Blue Maggot King, and the Pandes Matriarch lay on the ground, emitting the charred smell of cooked meat.
Tang Zheng held the weakly breathing Demon-Manifested Being, Nasurini, in his hand, his gaze fixed on the battlefield below, which seemed to have had a basin of cold water thrown over it with the appearance of thousands of undead.
"'Stargazer Far-Sight's' detection magic has also arrived. This is getting excessively lively."
Tang Zheng raised his head slightly, glancing at the sky above.
