Chapter 1 - Birth of the ruler

A large mansion stood on the bank of the river ,white walls of the mansion shining under the bright light of the sun. Inside the mansion,a room with its wall layered with gold , in the centre of the room a man sat on a large bed, his auburn hair shining under the bright light of the sun coming from the window above his head. His golden eyes looked at the newborn child carried by the woman sitting beside him.

The woman had black raven hair which seemed to absorb all the light falling. Her black eyes still seem to be devoid of any emotion, her expressionless face as she looked at the child in her arms.

*mans pov

A worried look formed on his face as he moved his hand toward the baby only to pull them back halfway.

He turned his head to look at his wife sitting beside her as he spoke.

"Aurora," Vincent whispered, " It's been 8 hours since he was born. Why isn't he waking up, nor did he cry? Is he really alright?"

He asked looking in the black eyes eyes of his wife to find an answer for his worries. It's been 8 hours since their child was born but the child still hasn't woken up. Even at the time of birth a child came peacefully in this world if not for his faint breath and small heartbeat at that time he would have thought that child was dead.

Even now he knows that the child is healthy and only sleeping but he still can't help worrying.

Aurora's eyes finally moved from the child; her fingers, which were moving through the child's hair stopped. She turned to look at him, her face expressionless as usual.

"He is fine,"she said, "The Doctor said that there are no problems with his body, he should be waking up soon."

She spoke in her usual voice but Vincent who spent most of his life with her could tell that she was also worried. He could still see slight trembling in her eyes.

From her words it seemed like that instead of him she was saying those words to herself.

Feeling her emotions he moved his arm to bring her into a hug but stopped midway as he noticed the slight movement in the child's arm too small for a human to feel but his instinct caught it immediately.

"He is waking up." he said with a slight smile on his face.

Aurora also was looking at the child intently.

The child's eyebrows flickered as slowly his eyes opened.

Vincent felt the beat of his heart quicken with excitement. As he saw the bright golden eyes of his child shining brightly.

The child's gaze was unnaturally focused, scanning their faces with an intelligence that sent ice through Vincent's veins.

Then the child's expression shifted, his golden eyes started turning dark. The darkness seemed to affect the entire eye, turning it to a shade of dark. His face remained vacant of expression as tears started flowing through his dark eyes.

Vincent felt a chill run down his spine seeing the dark eyes of his child. The darkness in his eyes seemed to carry something very dark, something primal. Just seeing them, he felt like losing his sanity. His heartbeat now beat like a drum in his chest, sweat started trickling down, his body started trembling. Never in his life had he felt terror so pure; despite the thousands of battles he fought in his life, he had never felt a fear so primal, which seemed to shake the core of his being. His instincts were warning him to run as far as possible, not to look into the eyes of the being lying in his wife's lap.

'Run run run run run run run run away!'

his mind raced, a single thought running through his mind, but his body wouldn't move. He felt like his soul was being sucked out of his body.

In this moment, he even forgot about the wife sitting in front of him and that the person he was fearing was his own child.

The first tremor started beneath their feet.

Stone groaned against stone as the walls began to shudder. Outside, the sky erupted in supernatural fury—thunder crashed like the footsteps of titans, and lightning split the heavens with blinding fury. The very air grew thick and oppressive, as if the weight of eternity had suddenly descended upon their mortal realm. The sunlight vanished from the sky, darkness took its place, a hurricane rose, destroying everything in its path. Earth started shaking, and the sounds of the thunder felt like the cry of the world coming to its end.

"Vincent!" Aurora's voice cut through the chaos, terror replacing her usual composure. "What's happening? Are we under attack?"

Vincent came out of his thoughts as his mind finally registered the presence of his wife, which he had forgotten till now.

He saw the terrified look on her face, but it didn't feel like the look of terror he had felt after seeing the child's eyes. She seemed to be scared of the supernatural phenomenon happening outside the room.

Vincent opened his mouth to respond, but again his eyes caught the eyes of the child in Aurora's arms. His now dark eyes seemed to hold the abyss in them. Again his breath quickened, his body started convulsing, the mana in his body ran rampant, blood started leaking out of his eyes, mouth, and other parts of his body.

And then it finally happened.

Out of nowhere, a force descended on him, crushing him to the ground. The entire room started trembling, walls gave up, breaking into pieces, stones turning into dust, cracks started appearing in the ground.

Vincent felt every bone in his body break, and more and more blood started leaking out of his mouth.

'Aurora, run away, hide somewhere, please,' he cried, thinking of his wife who was closest to the being who was causing all this—his child. He pleaded in his heart for her to run away, leaving the monster causing this. But his mouth didn't open; the pressure made it difficult to even maintain consciousness. And soon, his body finally gave up, making him lose consciousness.

Aurora sat on the bed with the child in her arms, her body completely unaffected by the destruction happening in her surroundings.

She had a terrified look on her face as she saw the body of her husband being crushed into the ground. She had also realized that all this was happening because of the child in her arms. She had thought of killing it the moment she saw what it was doing to her husband. But...

But when she saw the look in the child's eyes, she froze. Unlike her husband, she didn't feel fear. All she felt was the sadness—sadness in the eyes of the child. She felt his sorrow so deep it felt like he was carrying the pain of the whole world in his eyes, eyes in which tears continued to flow, drenching her gown in them. She didn't know why this child would have such sorrow in his eyes, but maybe because she was the one who gave birth to him, it made her feel like being broken into pieces.

But her mind continued to whisper one single thought:

'Kill the child. Save your husband. Kill him, he is the cause of everything, monsters kill him.'

She felt her head tearing with murderous thought ringing in her ears. The whispers seem to erode her of her sanity. Every single cell in her body was saying to kill the abomination she has birthed that such a thing should not be allowed to live. Except for her heart.

The heart... the heart said to hug him, to protect him. Despite seeing the power of the child which could make even a god fear, her heart said that he was too vulnerable, too weak, too pitiful—a child who seemed to be drowning in his own sorrow. It said she needed to show him that she was there to protect him.

She felt like she was standing at a crossroads—one wrong turn, one wrong decision, and she may lose everything she has.

Even now, the trembling of the world didn't stop. The sky continued to rain thunder as if to replicate the cry of the child. The storms seemed to carry the anger of the child, which remained hidden even from her, and the earth seemed to break as if it were the heart of the child being broken.

What choice should she make? Should she follow her heart or her mind?
