Chapter 286 - Chapter 285: Professor Oak's Laboratory Backyard

Chapter 285: Professor Oak's Laboratory Backyard

2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander (Author Name)

"150 species!?"

Professor Oak's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets in shock. You have to understand, the entire Kanto Region only has 150 species of Pokémon, so 150 meant he had caught them all!

This included not just the precious Fossil Pokémon and the promising Dragonite family, but also the Three Legendary Birds and the rarest of all, the Mythical Pokémon—Mew.

He caught them all?

"It must be broken. It has to be broken."

Professor Oak tossed the Pokédex back to Ash. Having calmed down, he simply couldn't believe it.

Maybe if Champion Lance were here, there'd be a tiny chance, but for a newcomer trainer like Ash who had just started his journey, it was absolutely impossible.

Ash took the Pokédex. This was the first he'd heard of it too. He secretly concluded that it must have been Brother Red who had caught the 150 Pokémon, and he was just reaping the benefits, unlocking this complete capture achievement.

Some people might have a question: the Kanto Region clearly has 151 Pokémon, can't you count?

But in reality, the Kanto Region Pokédex currently only lists 150. Mewtwo is an Artificial Pokémon and hasn't been officially recorded yet.

So, Red had actually only caught 150 Pokémon; he never caught Mew.

It's a Pokémon with a free-spirited nature, a favorite of the heavens, and doesn't like to be caught by humans.

Just then, Professor Oak remembered something and called for Ash to take out that Rainbow Wing for him to have a look.

On the first day of his journey, Ash had shown him the Feather that glowed with a seven-colored light over the phone, and Professor Oak had been coveting it for a long time.

Ash didn't disappoint. He took out three feathers: one Rainbow Wing, one Yellow Spiked Feather, and one Ice Blue Glazed Feather.

"!"

How did two more appear?

Professor Oak's eyes widened again. On all three feathers, from different sources, he could feel a Divine Aura. They were all extraordinary items, not some dyed Fearow down.

Ash's expression didn't change as he said calmly:

"Oh, I also caught an Articuno on my journey. That shouldn't be a problem, right?"

It's what they call playing it cool. Watching Professor Oak's face turn crimson, as if he needed emergency medical attention, Ash laughed to himself, but on the surface, he maintained a look of utter calm.

"!!"

Professor Oak quickly grabbed Ash's shoulders and shook him.

"Quick, quick, bring out your Articuno for me to see!"

Professor Oak was a man of great experience. He had seen both Zapdos and Moltres, Pokémon most people would never see in their lifetime. The only one of the Three Legendary Birds he hadn't seen was Articuno. The chance to witness the Deity of the Snowy Mountain naturally filled him with excitement.

"Oh, her..."

Ash recalled what Articuno had said to him before he left and replied with some uncertainty:

"I think she's released me for the time being?"

*When I become the strongest Legendary Pokémon, I will come and travel with you.*

This sentence sounded strangely familiar, as if he were looking in a mirror.

Professor Oak: "?"

Seeing this, he could only take the three feathers in his hand. Feeling the Divine Power within them, his research spirit flared up, and he gestured for the four of them to go wander around the Professor Oak's Laboratory Backyard.

Before they left, Ash remembered something and asked curiously:

"By the way, has that guy Gary returned yet?"

Professor Oak waved his hand impatiently and answered casually.

"Who's Gary? This old man doesn't know him."

Everyone: "?"

Professor Oak's Laboratory Backyard.

The four of them pushed open the back door and entered the area. Before them was a vast expanse of grassland, the green grass vibrant and lush. A few Rattata were playing, while some Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ were being affectionate, creating a naturally harmonious atmosphere.

The photographer, Todd Snap, felt his passion for shooting flare up, and he immediately grabbed his DSLR camera and started taking a flurry of pictures.

"Rumble..."

The four hadn't walked far when the ground suddenly began to vibrate and shake. In the distance, a cloud of yellow dust rose, as if something was stampeding toward them.

"It's Tauros! Hey, Tauros, have you all been doing well?!"

Ash had sharp eyes and immediately recognized this herd of Tauros as the 30 he had caught in the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. They were kicking up dust and stones as they rushed toward him.

The other three immediately fled, and Misty even snatched up Pikachu on her way.

"Pikachu, you're a mere mortal, this world isn't worth dying for."

"RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE"

The next second, the Tauros had completely knocked Ash to the ground, their iron hooves repeatedly using Stomp on his shoulders. The cracking sound of his bones bending was oddly satisfying.

Covered in hoof prints, Ash finally got up, twisted his arms, and wore an expression of post-release satisfaction.

"So refreshing... That felt about 70% as good as that Technician Dragonite from Celadon City."

Everyone: "..."

Ash revealed a satisfied smile and, in a swift motion, released all of his Pokémon. Red light materialized into the figures of several Pokémon.

"Alright everyone, we're on our own turf now, go play as you please!"

"Gengar!"

Hearing this, the fastest of them, Gengar, was the first to transform into a black shadow, shooting off toward the Back Mountain. It could already sense it: there had to be female Gengars here. It was going to leave its 6IVs genes all over Pallet Town, spreading its lineage so that when spring came next year, the land would be filled with 6IVs Gastly!

The slightly slower Pidgeot also spread its wings and shot off toward the jungle. The Pink Butterfree blushed and followed it.

They were heading for the woods.

"..."

Metapod couldn't fly and had to stay behind, but its mindset was surprisingly calm at this moment. It was like a statue, its magnanimity as vast as the ocean and mountains. Its body shone with a brilliant, dazzling green.

Charmeleon spat out a ball of scorching flames, its eyes resolute. It headed on its own toward a rocky area on the Back Mountain. Its fiery red body faintly flickered with red light.

It was about to reach its evolution and needed to continue tempering itself, accumulating its strength to the ultimate state.

"Wartortle-Wartortle."

"Saur."

Wartortle and Ivysaur, a pair of close bros, walked shoulder to shoulder toward a stream in the jungle, looking like they were on a happy outing.

In essence, a duo of turtle-like Pokémon strolling along.

In no time, Ash's army of Pokémon had scattered like birds and beasts, spreading out all over Professor Oak's Laboratory Backyard.

Seeing this, Misty and Brock followed suit, releasing their own Pokémon to play freely.

"You can go play too, then!"

Just then, Todd Snap also tossed out a Poké Ball. After a flash of red light, a white-bodied, upright canine Pokémon with drooping brown ears appeared. The tip of its long tail was stained with green paint, and it held it as if it were a paintbrush.

The moment it appeared, it exuded the aura of a great artist.

Pokédex Beep. Smeargle, the Copy Pokémon. It is a true Copy Master and is currently prohibited from participating in major competitions in multiple regions.

The Pokédex displayed.

Everyone: "?"

Todd Snap just scratched his head and explained:

"Heh heh, normally, if my DSLR camera runs out of battery, I rely on it to draw a few sketches. That should be fine, right?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a thick, murderous aura suddenly filled the surroundings. The air grew cold and sharp, sending a bone-chilling sensation through everyone.

Unbeknownst to them, the surrounding Pokémon had all fled in fear. While Ash and his group were still confused, several black shadows suddenly appeared in the tall grass. The spots where their eyes should be glowed with an intense crimson light, and they had formed a circle, surrounding the group.
