Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The First Million Begins With a Lie

The luxury hovercar glided through the morning air traffic, silent and sleek, drawing envious glances from pedestrians below. Inside the vehicle, Jason Yue sat with fingers steepled, his mind racing faster than the engine under him.

He had forty-eight hours.

Forty-eight hours before his carefully laid life would be shattered—again.

But this time, he was no longer the naive heir blindly trusting family and love.

This time, he had a System.

[System Evolution Core – Level 0]

Evolution Points: 0

Daily Task: Earn 10,000 credits (Progress: 0%)

Countdown to Betrayal: 47:35:21

Jason reviewed the tasks again, his eyes narrowing at the Side Task.

[Visit Yue Conglomerate Tower and confront CFO Lin]

Reward: Hidden Memory Fragment

CFO Lin had been his father's most trusted financial strategist. He also played a critical role in convincing the Board to side with Nathan's coup years later. Jason had never suspected him—until it was too late.

"Time to collect a debt," he murmured.

Yue Conglomerate Tower – Executive District

The tower stood like a monolith carved from obsidian, its façade reflecting the light of a rising sun. It hadn't changed. Not the twin statues of Yue ancestors at the entrance, nor the rows of elite guards in smart-uniforms.

Jason approached the entrance confidently.

"Good morning, Young Master Yue!" the concierge bowed instantly. They hadn't yet received the memo about his fall—because it hadn't happened in this timeline. Yet.

"Is CFO Lin in his office?" Jason asked, breezing past.

"Yes, sir. He arrived an hour ago."

Jason entered the private elevator and rode to the executive level.

As the doors opened with a polite chime, he was greeted by familiar faces—assistants, analysts, directors. All of them smiled and greeted him with the respect they owed a Yue. The hypocrisy stung.

You all disappear the moment things go south, he thought grimly.

"Jason?" came a startled voice.

A tall man with graying hair stepped out of his glass-walled office. Lin Hao, CFO of Yue Conglomerate. The same man who would betray Jason during the Board vote two days from now.

Jason smiled. "Uncle Lin. Good morning."

Lin frowned slightly. "This is unexpected. Your father mentioned you were traveling to Tokyo Sector."

"I returned early," Jason said smoothly. "We need to talk. Privately."

Lin waved him into the office.

Once inside, Jason didn't sit. He stood with his hands behind his back, gaze piercing.

"I've been reviewing internal reports," Jason began. "Specifically, the financial distributions over the last fiscal quarter."

Lin arched a brow. "And?"

Jason walked toward the window overlooking the city. "I noticed a strange pattern. Redirected capital flows, unauthorized transfers, hidden assets moved to shell companies... Would you care to explain?"

Lin's face paled slightly.

Jason turned to face him, eyes cold. "Did you think I wouldn't notice?"

"You don't have authority to review those files—"

"I'm the heir," Jason snapped. "And I built half the tech sector you leech from."

He activated his wristband, projecting a hologram into the air—dozens of ledgers, encryption logs, and movement trails. Evidence.

Jason had spent the past two hours using the System's Trace Code utility—his first system-based skill unlocked by diverting his starting bonus into stealth scanning.

Lin's face tightened.

"I don't know what you think you've found, but this will cost you, Jason. You've overstepped."

Jason stepped forward.

"No, Lin. You're going to wire me 10,000 credits from your personal reserve and hand over your access to Sector 9 Holdings. Or I'll take this data to the Board and call for an emergency audit."

"You're bluffing—"

Jason pressed a command.

The hologram shifted—an image appeared of Lin in a secret meeting with Nathan and Elena, three days from now.

"I'm bluffing?" Jason smiled like a wolf.

Lin's hands trembled.

Moments later, Jason's wristband buzzed.

Jason's eyes flashed as a wave of memories hit him—another life, one where he'd partnered with a man named Dr. Akio Voss in New Singapore and launched a fusion-engine startup. They'd made their first million in under thirty days.

"I remember everything," Jason whispered.

"Wh-What did you just do?" Lin asked, horror on his face.

Jason turned his back. "I've seen my future, Lin. And yours."

He walked out without another word.

Inside the Elevator

Jason's mind raced.

The Memory Dive skill allowed him to tap into memories of his alternate selves—versions of Jason Yue who succeeded briefly in other timelines before dying. That knowledge was priceless.

[Skill Unlocked: Memory Dive (Lv. 1)]

Cooldown: 24 hours

Access: +1 lifetime memory per use

Duration: 5 minutes per memory dive

Jason activated it.

A flash of light. A rush of thoughts. The scent of ozone.

He was 32, standing on a podium in front of a thousand investors.

"Welcome to VossTech Fusion, where energy is no longer a cost—but a birthright," Jason said, smiling in a tailored white suit.

Dr. Voss clapped him on the back. "We just closed the 50 million funding round, brother."

The memory ended.

Jason gasped back to the present, sweat glistening on his brow.

"I need to find Dr. Voss… now."

Later That Day – Quantum Bay Industrial Hub

Jason made some calls using contacts from the memory dive—most of them inactive in this timeline, but one number still connected.

Akio Voss.

An eccentric, socially awkward genius who had fled the corporate world after being blackballed by energy monopolies. Jason arranged a meeting at an abandoned café near the industrial harbor.

When Dr. Voss arrived, he looked rough—messy hair, mismatched shoes, heavy bags under his eyes. But the spark of brilliance was unmistakable.

"Jason Yue?" he asked cautiously.

"I want to fund your micro-fusion cell project," Jason said, sliding over a holo-slate. "Today."

Voss frowned. "Why? I've been laughed out of eight venture labs."

"I know you cracked the stabilizer formula," Jason said. "And I know you just need 10,000 credits to finalize the prototype."

Voss blinked. "How the hell do you know that?"

Jason smiled.

"Let's call it... intuition."

Two hours later, Voss stared in disbelief as Jason wired the investment into his lab account.

"You just became my co-founder," the scientist whispered.

Jason nodded. "And I just made my first million."

As night fell over the city, Jason stood on the balcony of his penthouse, gazing at the skyline.

He'd earned 10,000 credits.

Confronted a traitor.

Unlocked a skill.

Secured the future of a tech empire.

And he had 47 hours left until betrayal.

He wasn't afraid anymore.

Because this time...

He wasn't playing the game.

He was the game.
