Chapter 2 - A Rift Above, A Flirt Below

It's been two weeks since that first day at the academy… and since that weird thing appeared in the sky. They're calling it a "Rift," or at least that's what the scientists are saying.

Today's Saturday, so I get to enjoy the day with Felix. He said we could take a little beach trip, you know, for a mini vacation—and maybe to check out some girls.

Honestly? I'm not really into that...

Not that I'm not into girls! I just don't really like going to the beach, that's all.

– Yo, Kai! – Felix shouts, super hyped.

– Hey, Felix! – I shout back.

– We're going to the beach today! Isn't that awesome? – Felix asks.

– For you, maybe! I don't really like the beach, but I'll go and just chill on the sand. I'm way too pale—I could use some color. – I explain.

– Haha, no worries! What matters is that my friend's coming with me. – Felix says, still excited.

– Alright then, let's go. – I reply.

Now we're at the beach… but there's barely any sun. That thing—the Rift—is almost completely blocking the sunlight.

– Hey Kai, – Felix says.

– What? – I ask.

– Don't you think this is kinda weird? – He points up at the Rift.

– Yeah… I don't know how it even got there, but all we can do now is hope it doesn't cause any trouble for us. – I reply.

– True, but for now, let's enjoy our day off! – Felix grins.

– Yeah… – I say.

Hold up. Is Felix actually flirting with a girl? (laughs)

I can already see the rejection coming! (more laughs)

– Hey there, gorgeous! Does your dad know you're out here breaking hearts? 'Cause you are seriously stunning, babe! – Felix says with a big smile.

– Ugh, get lost. Look at you, then look at me—I'm way out of your league, kid. – The girl replies, visibly disgusted.

– Hehe, my bad. – Felix laughs it off and walks away.

Hah, I knew he was gonna get shut down.

But now it's probably time to head back. He's been in the water for like, two straight hours. I'm gonna call him so we can go home.
