Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Girl Marked for Death

The full moon cast a cold, silver light over the quiet village of Elden Hollow. The wind whispered through the trees like a warning, and even the animals knew better than to howl tonight. For tonight… someone was going to die.

Elena stood in the center of the village square, her wrists bound with silver chains that burned her skin. Her once-soft white dress was torn, stained with dirt and dried blood. Villagers stood around her, their eyes cold and full of fear — not for her, but of the one who had sentenced her.

"The Alpha is coming," someone whispered.

Footsteps echoed through the silence. Heavy. Slow. Terrifying.

Then he appeared — Alpha Kael Nightbane, the most feared werewolf in all of the Moonlight Territories. Tall, broad-shouldered, and dressed in black. His silver eyes glowed with rage and something darker. His presence made the crowd part like the sea. No one dared to breathe in his path.

Elena's heart pounded in her chest. Not from fear of death — she had already accepted that — but from the presence of the monster who had destroyed her life.

Kael stopped in front of her, towering over her trembling form. His eyes scanned her like she was a speck of dust, unworthy of attention. Then, he spoke.

"You murdered a member of my pack. What do you have to say?"

"I didn't…" Elena's voice cracked. "I didn't kill anyone."

Kael's jaw clenched. "Your knife was found in his chest. His blood was on your hands."

"They framed me!" she cried. "Please, I swear I'm innocent—"

Before she could finish, he grabbed her chin roughly, forcing her to look up. The moment their eyes met, Kael froze.

His pupils dilated.

His breath hitched.

The crowd waited. Confused. Silent.

"Elena…" he whispered, almost to himself.

A strange heat rushed through both of them — a connection that neither could explain. Kael's wolf stirred violently inside him. His instincts screamed the truth he didn't want to hear.

She's your mate.

"No…" he growled, letting go of her as if she'd burned him. "This can't be."

Elena's eyes widened. She had felt it too — that pull, that strange bond. But what did it mean?

"Change of punishment," Kael snarled to the guards. "Don't kill her."

"What should we do with her, Alpha?" one asked.

Kael's cold gaze locked on Elena's trembling body.

"Chain her. Break her. Make her serve. But don't kill her."

And just like that, Elena's nightmare had only begun.

Not with death.

But with bondage to the monster who was destined to love her… or destroy her.
