Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Armory

As the sky gradually darkened.

On Chen Wen's side.

He also returned to the shelter.

He didn't eat much for dinner, mainly coconut stewed oysters.

He had already become fond of this sweet dish.

In the latter half of the afternoon, Chen Wen went to the coconut grove again.

This time he picked quite a few coconuts.

He also picked up a lot of firewood on the way back.

Passing by the rainforest, Chen Wen didn't feel the presence of that black thing.

Maybe that guy couldn't sit still? Turned around to look for other prey?

Chen Wen speculated optimistically.

But one cannot lack vigilance.

Tonight, while sleeping, Chen Wen planned to rest his head on his new weapon.

Of course, before sleeping, Chen Wen also needed to craft four flint long spears.

Having the afternoon's experience.

Chen Wen was already very familiar with the first few steps.

By the bright firelight, Chen Wen quickly finished working on the tips of the wooden sticks.

But when fixing the flint spearhead, Chen Wen hesitated a bit.

The binding method for the axe definitely wouldn't work.

The spearhead, as a weapon, couldn't possibly be bound with rope.

And the fixing method for the flint knife wasn't quite suitable either.

Chen Wen tried it, but the bound spearhead was not durable at all.

A strong fling and the spearhead would fly off.

Chen Wen almost lost this spearhead.

After retrieving the spearhead, Chen Wen fell into deep thought.

The crux of the matter is that the structure of the flint long spear is completely different from the stone axe and the knife.

The stone axe is a side weapon, so it can be bound at both ends.

The knife has a long blade, so it can be fixed within the stick.

But the flint long spear is a vertical weapon, its shaft is short.

So neither method is suitable.

"How to do this? Ancestors, if you have spirits in heaven, enlighten your brother!"

After thinking it over and finding no scientific solution.

Chen Wen resorted to mysticism.

But evidently, the ancestors didn't quite understand Chen Wen's standard Mandarin.

"Why not try imitating a monkey's call?"

Chen Wen's thoughts jumped around.

But soon, he amused himself.

"Never mind, never mind, ancestors go to sleep early, I'll think of something myself."

With a sigh, Chen Wen toyed with the spearhead and continued pondering.

A moment later, looking at the triangular spearhead.

Chen Wen suddenly had an inspiration.

"Why not make two notches upwards from the base of the spearhead with a stone, then fix it with rope through the notches?"

With this idea, Chen Wen immediately felt hopeful!

He quickly picked up the spearhead and attempted to strike it with a stone.

This time, striking it required high precision.

Using too much force, or hitting it off-center.

The entire spearhead could shatter.

So Chen Wen was extremely careful.

After two to three minutes of striking.

Chen Wen finally chipped out satisfactory notches.

He attempted to fix the spearhead on the stick, then bound it with twine made from fishing net.

Soon, Chen Wen had the spearhead securely fixed.

Chen Wen picked up the long spear and tried giving it a spin.

"Hey, it didn't fly off!"

Seeing the spearhead securely stay on the stick, Chen Wen gathered up his courage and gave it a hard shake.

"It really worked, damn!"

Chen Wen burst into laughter.

He then tried stabbing the long spear into a tree trunk.

The spearhead was sturdy and motionless.

"Perfect! Your brother is a genius!"

Chen Wen's lips curled up, unable to stop smiling.

Next, Chen Wen needed to work on the remaining three spearheads.

Two of the long spears were perfect, all done in one go.

The first short spear was also perfect.

But when striking the second short spear, Chen Wen stopped smiling.

This spearhead was the one with the crack that Chen Wen had previously made.

During this strike, the flint spearhead couldn't withstand the pressure and broke at the crack.

A short spear was scrapped, leaving only a short stick.

Chen Wen consoled himself: "Never mind, never mind, let's call it a reasonable loss, even the badass ancestors had their slip-ups?"

"Time to sleep!"

After placing the weapons properly, Chen Wen fell right to sleep.

Half an hour later.

Chen Wen suddenly sat up: "No! How did the flint crack like that?! Damn! My short spear!"

...

Northern waters.

In the afternoon, the sea police arrived with the maritime bureau's materials.

The search and rescue team was already exhausted.

"Mr. Li, there were twenty-seven people on board. Captain Zhao Qi was salvaged by the fishing boat. We found a total of twenty complete bodies."

"Additionally, we found several severed limbs in the cabin, all of which have now been brought ashore."

The leader of the rescue team barely keeping his eyes open, relayed all his information to the police from the maritime police bureau.

"Thank you for your hard work, comrade!"

Mr. Li, looking at the materials and analysis in his hands, was quite moved: "All of you from the Blue Sea Rescue Team are outstanding! Deservedly the top-ranked rescue team in the industry!"

The rescue team leader wearily waved his hand: "No need for pleasantries, it's all for saving people."

"Mr. Li, my people are in desperate need of rest, I'll leave this to you."

"Rest assured, we'll stay right here!"

After the rescue team leader left.

Mr. Li began cross-checking the personnel list.

Meanwhile, he instructed the forensic team to analyze the limbs and bodies, to see if they could determine the owners of the limbs and causes of death.

After a whole night of busy work.

Mr. Li sent the information he had gathered to his superiors.

"The Huannan Fishery No.5145 incident is deemed an accident, the most likely cause of the shipwreck was due to encountering sea fog, the captain misjudged the course, ultimately running aground."

"Most of the crew drowned, preliminary analysis suggests it was because the accident occurred at dawn, when most of the crew, having labored, were resting in the cabins."

"Besides the confirmed deaths, two crew members are still missing."

"The missing individuals are crew members Chen Wen and Sun Ming, their information is saved in the attachment."

"The forensic team inferred from the limbs that one of the two might be severely injured, or possibly already drowned. We are actively searching in and around the accident site."

...

Just as dawn broke.

Chen Wen sat up.

He had a decent sleep last night.

Being someone who made a living on the sea for a long time, Chen Wen had no issues with strange beds.

After a toilet visit and washing his hands.

Chen Wen sat by the fire, preparing breakfast.

Grilled barnacles with sea snails, followed by some oyster cooked in coconut juice.

After a satisfying meal, Chen Wen continued preparing for the hunt on the reef.

Because he had to go into the water this time, the previous storage tools were unusable.

Thus, Chen Wen decided to make use of the remaining damaged fishing net.

As a fisherman, Chen Wen had learned to weave nets on the boat.

Sometimes the fishing net on the boat could get damaged after a single catch.

At such times, the crew would have to personally mend the net.

Chen Wen learned this skill while other crew members repaired the nets.

He sorted through the remaining fishing net, making a decision in no time.

"Disassemble this badly torn net, mend these two, and just enough to make two net bags, use one, keep one as a spare."

By the firelight, Chen Wen began to take apart the badly damaged fishing net.

As the sun gradually rose.

Chen Wen had disassembled the fishing net into lengths of net rope.

Then, he used these net ropes to patch, mend, and disassemble the two slightly better nets.

By the time the sun was nearly overhead.

Two net bags were completed.

Chen Wen tested the carrying capacity of the net bags.

Since one of the nets had been ashore for a while, the net rope showed considerable wear, with weakened carrying capacity.

Therefore, Chen Wen designated it as the backup net bag.

While the other net bag had strong carrying capacity, Chen Wen immediately tied it to his waist for convenient use.

With everything ready.

Chen Wen enjoyed a hearty meal, then dragged his suitcase and headed toward the northwest of the island.
