Episode 12: Hearts Don't Break Quietly

It started with a cramp.

A small, sharp twist in Evan's side as she leaned into Abel's chest, both of them drifting to sleep in the hush of the night.

Then another.

Deeper. Worse.

Her eyes shot open.

"Abel," she whispered, breath hitching. "Something's wrong."

He stirred immediately, instincts sharp.

"What is it?"

She doubled over, gripping her stomach. "The babies… they're—"

She didn't finish.

Because pain ripped through her like a blade.

And then—wet warmth.

Her water broke.

20 Minutes Later — Luna Private Clinic

Abel kicked the emergency room doors open himself.

"She's bleeding," he roared. "Get a team, now!"

Nori was already shouting behind him, summoning the obstetrics unit.

Evan groaned in his arms, barely conscious, lips pale.

"Don't let me lose them," she whispered.

"You won't. I swear to God, Evan. You won't."

But inside, fear cracked open in Abel like he'd never known before.

Not even when his empire was on fire.

This was her. His wife. His future. His everything.

Surgery Ward — Outside OR

Time warped.

Abel stood outside the operating room doors, fists clenched, heart in his throat.

Nori hovered nearby, face drawn.

"The babies are only at seven months," she said gently. "They can survive. They just need the NICU."

He nodded silently.

His phone buzzed.

Another media leak—footage of Evan entering a motel, alone, pregnant, crying.

He crushed the phone in his palm.

"Find out who leaked that. And destroy them."

"Yes, sir."

He turned back to the door.

And waited.

---

Inside the Operating Room

Evan drifted in and out of pain, voices muffled around her.

"She's losing too much blood."

"Prep for emergency C-section."

"We need to save both babies—now."

Her head lolled to the side.

Abel…

She couldn't lose them. Not now.

Not when she had just started to believe they had a future.

---

Three Hours Later — Recovery Room

The light was low.

Machines beeped softly.

Evan blinked.

And there he was—Abel, slumped in a chair beside her bed, still in his bloodied shirt.

Eyes haunted.

Unmoving.

She whispered, "Are they—?"

He looked up fast.

"They're okay," he said. His voice cracked. "Both of them. A boy and a girl."

Tears spilled from her eyes.

He reached over and grabbed her hand, then kissed her knuckles like they were the last sacred thing in the world.

"You scared the hell out of me."

"I thought I lost them," she whispered.

"You didn't. I would've given everything—everything—to make sure you didn't."

And then he did something she'd never seen.

He cried.

Just once.

Silently.

A tear rolled down his cheek and dropped onto her skin.

"You're not just my wife, Evan. You're the only thing that ever made me want to fight for something instead of against it."

She squeezed his hand. "We're still fighting."

He nodded.

"But this time," he said, "I'm done playing nice."

Later That Night — Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The twins were tiny. Fragile. But alive.

Evan pressed her hand to the incubator glass, breath catching.

Abel stood behind her, one hand on her waist.

"They're fighters," she whispered.

"Like their mother."

She turned.

And in the quiet hum of machines and sterile light, she saw it—real, unguarded love in Abel's eyes.

No revenge.

No walls.

Just him.

Finally open.

"I'm not going anywhere," she said.

"You'd better not," he murmured, pressing his forehead to hers. "Because if you ever run again… I'll come after you with every breath I've got."

---

Meanwhile — Cassandra's Apartment

She watched the hospital footage with a glass of wine.

So the babies were born early.

So what?

They were alive.

But she wasn't done.

"Let her feel safe," she whispered to herself. "Let her think she's won."

Then she lifted a folder from the table and smiled.

Inside was a photo of Evan's father.

And a secret that would shatter everything.
