Chapter 20 - A Trio of Darkness

I had no idea what he meant by a third eye… but all of a sudden I was able to see an immense aura surrounding him. "Can you please explain what this is?" I questioned. Nightingale gave me a sly smile and said, "It's nothing much really, that tea you drank is simply a mixture of special herbs that help someone open what I refer to as a thirdeye. In essence, it is simply an awakening of your senses. Now that you have opened your true line of sight, now you will be able to completely see someone's true life force. Many people refer to it as vitalpower, or even lifeenergy. In reality, what this is that you are seeing is my inner power seeping out of me. Even at this moment I have been suppressing it. Now, let me show you a brief moment of my true vitality." As he said it, the black torrent of aura around it expanded in an instant, completely enveloping the room around us. It was as if the whole world had gone dark. "Please stop!" I shouted out. And just like that, the room had returned to normal. That kind of power, I had never seen anything like it. Nightingale seemed amused by my reaction. "My apologies Ivan, but it was important for you to experience that. You will most likely be facing people of my caliber or even greater in the future due to your blessing. Now, I'll ask again. What do you think I am?" He said with a serious tone. "You… are not just some kind of conduit. You are power itself." I said with a shutter. Just thinking about that dark room he had created made my hair stand up on edge. "You are correct to an extent, Ivan. To say I am power itself, is not so far from the truth. This body of mine, is really just a vessel to hold the powers of divinity that were bestowed upon me as a child. A Bestower is someone who is meant to help protect the powers of night and day within this mortal realm. That is my sole purpose in life, and the reason for mine and my siblings creation. We do not hold blessings from the gods such as yourself and others. Rather, we hold a culmination of their power within us. Each of us was created for a specific purpose. My sister could be called a bestower of nature, as she is a master of elemental forces with otherworldly capabilities. My brother is the greatest inventor of our time, and can create enchantments on a whim. As for me, I deal with the dark and dirty secrets of the world. I hold the weight of the curses and the darkness that hides in the shadows. Each of us with our own purpose, and yet equally important in maintaining peace. We hold the power of the gods, and yet we are not gods. Right now, our world is on the brink of completely flipping on its head. The balance between night and day become askew, and our duties now call us. I believe it was fate that I met you in this place Ivan. With what I have learned from Albany, I am sure now that we were meant to meet each other so that I can help you." He said as he stood up from his chair and walked over in front of the fireplace. "How exactly can you help me?" I questioned. Nightingale then turned back towards me from the fireplace, the embers glowing behind him fiercely. "I know why the bones follow you Ivan." His words nearly knocked the wind out of me. It was something I had been feeling but could never really put into words, the reason why I could feel all of those skeletons in the ground around me. I had become a walking cemetery. They were following me this whole time like I was some kind of magnet! Why!? I nearly jumped out of my seat. "How do you know that!?" I asked incredulously. "As I said before, my friend Albany here is what I like to call a medium. She acts as a tool for me to use my powers in a more unique way. She is a part of myself in a certain sense. Because of that, the bite that we both received was able to tell me quite a lot about you… Including who your patron god is." He said with an eerie smile. "That… I'm not sure if I want to know…" I said as I held the cup of tea tightly in my hands. This power, I was afraid of it. I had so many horrible experiences from it, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to know of a god that controls the dead… "Hmph, don't ever say such a thing." Nightingale said with annoyance. "Your Patron god in particular is very special, and hasn't ever chosen anyone to act as their apostle until now." "Sir Nightingale, I don't think you understand what my blessing really does…" I responded. "Nonsense, I may not know exactly what it does, but I know enough about your patron god to say your power is one meant for protection. You may think it evil now, but allow me to tell you a bit about your god and why they are so important." I was doubtful of his words… but at this point I knew it would be better to know then to go on knowing nothing at all. "A-alright, please tell me." "Good. That is the correct choice. Let me start by explaining the origins of your Patron god…."

"Eons ago, when the first gods were born from mother Gaian and her partner… There were a total of 14 Gods of beginning. Among them were a set of triplets that were called the dark trio. The three were considered among the strongest of all of the Gods of beginning. The reason being, they were gods that reigned over the aspects of death.

Although it is said that any god can be reborn in time, if they were to meet their end at the hands of these gods… their lives would ultimately remain forfeit. Meaning, if they were to be killed by one the dark trio, they would not be able to be reborn. Due to this, they became feared among the other Gods of beginning and were sent to a realm of unspeakable nightmares in the guise of subduing it. In actuality, they were being tricked and sent to this realm as a way to imprison them and keep them away to preserve their own lives. This place was then referred to as ….thenightrealm. This realm was essentially a place where forgotten souls ended up, a place where evil was cultivated and prospered. It was a forbidden place that no gods dared to step foot in. However, the dark trio ultimately conquered this realm and made it their home. A true testament to their ultimate power. Soon enough, because of the efforts of the dark trio, they managed to fully integrate the realm of night into the land of death… a place where all souls would reach at the end of their life. The first sibling was the goddess of Death. She was the essence of death itself, and what came first. The second sibling was the God of Darkness, what came after. Then there was your patron god… The God of Remains, what was left behind. Each of them performed a role in the night realm that allowed them to rule over it with an iron fist. However, at the start your patron god did not necessarily have a role. He first simply followed his siblings' actions and responded accordingly to their wills. It was only after the appearance of humans that his role became more defined. That was because with the creation of mortals… The birth of demons followed suit. Demons were creatures born from the pure negative emotions of mortal souls that began inhabiting the night realm. They were malevolent and violent creatures that if left unchecked, could lead to the destruction of both the night realm and the mortal realm. That's where your patron god comes in…" Nightingale said as he took another sip of his tea. "Wait, Demons? They are actually real??" I asked in shock. "That's right Ivan, Demons are very real… and there is one currently lurking in our world. But I will get to that in due time. "That's right Ivan, Demons are very real… and there is one currently lurking in our world. But I will get to that in due time. As I was saying, your patron god took on the duty of suppressing these demonic entities and as such became a natural defender for our mortal world. Initially, the Goddess of Death out of pure kindness felt that even these hideous beings should have a chance of redemption. Because of that, she created a system that in turn allowed the demons to gain a chance at reincarnation, rather than eternal damnation. Unfortunately, even with that opportunity the demons continued to grow in power and were forced to be locked away. I don't know all of the details about that situation, but that is what I currently know. However, because of this great duty that befell your patron god… he has never, not once, had any kind of apostle within this world.
