Wyatt Zhang had always been fascinated by the idea of secret organizations. The more he failed to find proof, the more he believed in their existence—mysterious groups that stayed hidden from ordinary people simply because of how special they were.
But as he read more novels and learned more about the real world, that belief faded. Fantasy and reality had become two very different things for him.
Now, though, everything was different. With spiritual energy revived and people awakening superpowers, the line between reality and fantasy had blurred.
Whether or not the changes affected plants or animals, one thing was certain: among humans, the rise of powers meant new ambitions, and the government would inevitably establish new organizations to manage it all.
The only question was whether these organizations would be public, letting anyone who met the criteria join.
The homeroom teacher looked at Wyatt for a moment, not sure what to say.
You just awakened your power yesterday, and you're already planning to compete for the title of Earth's king? At this rate, you'll be worrying about the apocalypse by tomorrow!
But, in all fairness, Wyatt's logic made sense.
Still, the teacher couldn't help but sigh.
"Do you really think I'd know something like that?" he asked, a bit exasperated.
"I'm just a regular teacher—there's no way I can guess what the government's planning. And if I guess wrong, I'd just embarrass myself. You'll know the answer soon enough."
Brushing the question aside, the teacher became more serious as he looked at the class.
"Listen, I know awakening powers has had a big impact on all of you.
Maybe it's the beginning of a new era, a new opportunity for our country and the world. There's no doubt that things are going to change, and fast."
"I may be your teacher, but it's not my place to tell you what you have to do with your abilities.
All I ask is that you remember not to use your powers to break the law or harm others. Do what's right, and if you can help others, do so—but at the very least, don't disrupt the peace we've worked so hard to achieve."
"Sure, right now our powers are weak. Talking about changing the world is just an exaggeration. For now, just cooperate with the authorities and register your abilities honestly."
"I hope you'll all cooperate, and don't make things difficult for anyone."
Times had changed, and education changed with it.
Novels, anime, and movies could shape how people thought—for better or for worse.
It's hard to be a truly good person, but all too easy to be a villain.
He wouldn't demand that his students become heroes, but he at least hoped they'd never use their gifts to hurt others.
After all, one mistake at their age, with powers like these, could cause problems that couldn't be undone.
As their teacher, he didn't want to see his students go down the wrong path.
The students understood, nodding and responding seriously:
"Don't worry, sir. We'll cooperate."
"Yeah, we know this is a new era, but we also know how precious peace is."
"With great power comes great responsibility. Maybe I can't save the world, but I'll at least do what I can."
"It's just registration—it's no big deal."
"Exactly. I used to envy those people who got to register at the police station."
As long as it didn't involve being experimented on, the students were happy to go along.
They understood how precious peace was—just look at countries at war, and you'd know how terrifying chaos could be.
No one wanted their home to end up like that.
The teacher nodded, clearly relieved and pleased.
"Alright, if you've awakened a power, please stand up now."
"Follow me out to the sports field for registration."
"If you haven't awakened anything yet, don't worry—everyone's body is different, and some people awaken later than others. No matter what happens, your number one job as students is to study."
"Just wait here for a bit. Once we're finished, your math teacher will come in and start class."
At this, the students who hadn't awakened suddenly lit up. They'd been worried they didn't have the talent, but now it sounded like it was just a matter of time.
What a relief.
The teacher's closing remark about "studying is your top priority" was pretty much ignored—at this point, those who'd awakened powers had one thing on their minds.
"So it's just because of our bodies! I thought I was just a background character."
"Please, the ones who've awakened powers are the supporting cast—didn't you see how many people got powers? Guys like us are clearly the extras."
"Hey, not true! It's always the late bloomers who are the main characters. Haven't you ever read a loser-to-hero novel?"
"Yeah, good point."
Knowing they could awaken later instantly lifted their spirits; disappointment and even despair turned to hope. Smiles returned to their faces.
Some even started using "main character vs. extra" logic to comfort themselves.
"Whatever, but I'm still jealous of the ones who already have powers."
"Totally. At least their powers are real. Ours are still just daydreams."
"Heh, I just hope I get something good. I'm not asking much—a space or time power would be perfect."
"Space? Time? Dream on."
"I'm not greedy—just give me something like Luffy's Rubber-Rubber Fruit. Stretchy, strong, versatile."
"Gross."
Everyone instantly edged away from him. "That's so pervy! You got a license for those thoughts?"
"What's so special about rubber? Invisibility is where it's at. Someone as sunny as me deserves that kind of power!"
"Shameless!"
"I want something like the Slip-Slip Fruit or the Love-Love Fruit."
"Dude, aren't you a guy?"
"So what? What's gender got to do with it? It's about style, man!"
He said it with conviction, and several people around him actually nodded in agreement.
He had a point.
Looks matter most nowadays, and the Slip-Slip and Love-Love Fruits were both powerful.
Hmm… Not a bad idea.
Brandon and the others rolled their eyes at their classmates. They sure could dream.
By now, the sports field was already filling up—not just their class, but others too.
At the front, teachers were demonstrating and registering their abilities.
One teacher even had a fluffy fox tail, which drew a few curious glances.
Okay, maybe more than a few.
But really—just a couple glances.
Seriously!
