Chapter 16 - 16. Saitama’s New Home

Bang!

Another door slamming sound. Kaito looked back; it was Saitama. His expression showed three parts calmness, three parts helplessness, three parts awkwardness, and one part bewilderment, making it quite complex.

"So, who was that old woman?"

"That old hag? She's the landlady," Saitama sat down opposite Kaito, picked up a teacup, and took a sip, "Because I'm three months behind on rent, she told me to move out by tomorrow."

…By tomorrow? Good heavens, why don't you just say she told you to get out now.

"Ah, but didn't you help her get rid of so many problem tenants? Why wouldn't she give you any leeway?"

"That's precisely why. Because the police arrested all her tenants, no one's paying rent, so the old hag told me to get out."

"…"

Kaito's apartment.

Slurp, slurp— X2

Since Saitama hadn't had dinner yet, and Kaito himself got hungry from helping him pack, the first thing they did upon arriving home was cook. For convenience and speed, the first choice of food was naturally Kaito's special enhanced instant noodles.

And so, the sound of slurping noodles on the balcony became two.

"It's a good thing I have you, Kaito, otherwise I definitely wouldn't have found a place to stay today. You've been a great help." Saitama chewed on a large piece of boiled beef, "But don't worry, I'll move out as soon as possible. I've really troubled you."

A Limiter Shard formed from the hair falling off the back of Saitama's head. Kaito, with quick eyes and hands, snatched it: "It's fine, my guest room has always been empty anyway. Even if you want to stay long-term, it's no problem."

Feeling a gust of wind behind his head, Saitama turned around but found nothing. Though curious, he didn't think much of it and turned back to his noodles.

The next day.

Kaito went to the police station, showed his face to his superiors, handled a few pending reports, and then rode his scooter to patrol. Even though he had special privileges, he couldn't always skip work.

After diligently completing a day's work, Kaito returned to his apartment building and saw Saitama coming down the stairs, carrying a large box in each hand.

"Hmm? What's wrong, Saitama? Have you found a place already?"

"Yes," Saitama stacked the cardboard boxes in his hands onto an old pushcart he'd found somewhere, wiping sweat from his brow. "The clothing store owner said that a certain area in Z City became a no-man's land at some point, but the basic water and electricity haven't been cut off. I thought I'd go there and see if there are any vacant houses to temporarily live in."

Kaito suddenly realized, so Saitama was moving to the abandoned area's single-person apartment this early.

"Oh, that works. I'll help."

"You're really going to a lot of trouble."

Working together, Saitama's already sparse belongings were quickly organized and piled onto the pushcart.

Saitama was about to say that he could go by himself from now on, but then he saw Kaito extend his hand towards the fully loaded pushcart. A faint blue light flashed, and the pushcart, like a drawing erased by a rubber, vanished on the spot in an instant.

Saitama: "…"

[Fantasy Card: Junk Pushcart]

[Card Type: Item Card]

[Rarity: N]

[Description: A pushcart full of junk. If you look closely, many items can still be used.]

[Effect 1: Mobile Dormitory]

[Wherever you push it, home is there.]

[Effect 2: Junk Recycling]

[Selling it to a recycling station might yield some profit.]

Kaito: "…"

The moment the card was created, both people present couldn't help but crack a smile.

Saitama: Superpower is really convenient!

Kaito: Having a reliable job is really lucky!

"Let's go back up and check again, did we forget anything?"

"I don't really remember, but since you mentioned it, let's check again!"

The two went upstairs. Saitama went into the guest room to check, and when he came out, he was holding red and yellow clothes with a ball of white fabric in the middle.

The more Kaito looked, the more familiar it seemed: "This is?"

"The owner of the tailor shop knew I was on the path of a hero, so he specially gave me this hero uniform before closing the shop. The material is quite sturdy." Saitama unfolded the uniform, a sheepish smile on his face. "Thankfully, you reminded me, otherwise I would have really forgotten."

It was a yellow jumpsuit, red rubber gloves and boots, and the white part was a cape that could be attached to the shoulders.

Looking at the uniform, which resembled a comedic character's outfit, Saitama, holding the uniform in front of him, gradually overlapped with the image of the Caped Baldy.

Perfect!

"It's alright, even if you forgot, you could always come back for it next time."

"Kaito, you're such a good person."

"No more good person cards, let's go before it gets dark!"

"Oh, okay! But what's a good person card?"

On the deserted street, rows of streetlights lit up.

Beep beep beep beep…

A police-painted scooter carried two men speeding down the road. The wind howled, occasionally blowing off two or three strands of hair from the person in the back seat. The person in the front seat remained expressionless, clear azure flames burning in his eyes, and an invisible psychic power accurately captured Fantasy Cards that others couldn't see, putting them into his bag.

[Fantasy Cards: Limiter Shard] X15

This time, the collected Limiter Shard had already exceeded ten, but the Stand had not yet sent a "fusible" feedback. Kaito understood. The opportunity for Limiter Breakthrough was indeed not that easy to obtain. At this rate, the Limiter Shard needed for future fusions would only increase.

Then let's have another Sichuan hotpot tonight!

Screech—

A harsh braking sound rang out, and Saitama was pulled forward by inertia, his wind-blown hair even covering his eyes.

"This is…"

When he pushed aside the hair from his eyes, a gray-white residential building stood before him. One side of the balcony was built with red bricks, looking a bit dilapidated, but facilities like a rooftop antenna and solar panels were all present, making it the best-preserved building in the vicinity.

"Is anyone home?"

Kaito cupped his hands to his mouth and shouted loudly. The entire street was empty, with no response except for the echo.

"Very good, no one is here, this will do."

Saitama: "…"

You're using a very new way of confirming, but I have to say, it's really effective.

Just like the situation they had seen all along, this residential building was also deserted.

Saitama walked into the stairwell and tried the lights: "Ah, it really has electricity, then this is it!"

"Wait a minute!"

Saitama paused and turned to look at Kaito.

Kaito shook his head: "I didn't say anything."

"It was I, your great lord, who told you two idiotic humans to wait a minute!"

At this moment, a streetlight not far away suddenly came to life, pulling its "body" connected to a large number of wires out of the road, roaring furiously with bared fangs and claws: "This is my territory, who allowed you to move in without permission!?"
