England 1492
Niklaus POV
Finally.
490 years of this crippling emptiness will soon come to an end simply because of the girl in front of me
Katerina Petrova
Elijah is doing his best to be the charming host to lower this foolish girl's guard down, yet even I see the unconcealed disgust in his gaze at he engages in conversation with her
The Petrova Doppelganger
The one who holds the reigns on my freedom.
The common girl both Elijah and I were enamored with when we were still mortals
Over these centuries we have come to terms with how foolish we were.
To spend time caring for a momentary distraction
After all we are immortal, and they are nothing more than passing fancies
Even when we learned that our blood can turn the livestock into the same creatures as us when Kol slaughtered the De Martel castle centuries ago
They are nothing but pale impersonations of us
To be taken out by wood, from a common tree?
How deplorable
We are the only true immortals, why would we ever bring ourselves to care for those outside of that?
Shaking me out of my thoughts I hear "May I introduce to you the lord Niklaus" Elijah says introducing me to the walking sacrifice
She looks at my with unconcealed interest as I internally roll my eyes. I bring her hand up to my mouth and give it a kiss.
She blushes as I kiss her hand. Predictable. Mortals always mistake performance with affection
"It's a pleasure to meet you my dear" I say with an uncharacteristically wide grin
"I shall give you two some alone time" Elijah says as he retreats to speak with others
We engage in polite conversation as she speaks to me about her dreary homeland and her inconsequential life before she met me
-------
"So Nik, have you decided to call off the sacrifice already?" My irksome brother Kol says with that same jesting tone he always seems to use these days
"What on earth would compel me to do such a thing?" I say in a flat voice knowing he will be speaking something unbearably foolish
His grin gets wider as he notices he got my attention and says, "Well, I assumed you already fell in love with the poor copy. You could never refuse her face after all."
I roll my eyes, "Oh please, why would I ever care for something as pitiful as a mortal."
He rebuts by saying "Why haven't you just compelled her or locked her in our dungeon yet then? Why play the charming host?"
As I was about to respond the doors open revealing Rebekah as she rudely interrupts, "Oh come now Kol, you know Niklaus never passes an opportunity for dramatics."
I see no need to dignify that preposterous statement with a response.
Kol's laughter begins to ring in our chamber, "Of course, how could I forget Bekah. Niklaus would never pass up a chance for a performance."
I scowl before I turn to glare at both of them. "You hypocrites, you forget you lot play into dramatics just as much as I do."
"It's a family trait." They both say completely synchronized
I roll my eyes as I say, "490 years of this cursed existence, forgive me if I want to savor the moment."
Rebekah deadpans before her face turns serious. "I came to tell you two that we had a rebellion of sorts amongst our witches."
I sigh at this inconvenience, "Don't they ever learn? This has become quite common in the past century." I turn to look at Kol who looks particularly irked. Since he lost his magic he makes himself feel better by inflicting pain on those who still have that blasted connection to nature he's always droning about.
Kol's voice turns serious, "Finn is managing them is he not? Have him kill the perpetrators and their families to show what we do to insubordination."
I roll my eyes for what seems to be the millionth time today. "Yes, I am the dramatic one" I say in a completely unamused voice
Rebekah sighs, "He's already doing that you oafs, I just decided to inform you of new developments."
I wave a hand dismissively, "Nevertheless, it shall be dealt with soon. Bloody witches just can't follow orders quietly."
Rebekah snickers, "Well we are abominations, imagine what we're doing to their fragile little egos. Being forced by something seen as an detestable."
Kol interrupts, "The bloody hypocrites, they create our kind and when we show that we're their betters all of a sudden we are vile"
I respond by saying "Well we aren't saints"
Kol responds dramatically by saying, "Well thats besides the point Nik."

Katerina POV
I must escape
I didn't understand who they were
I thought they took pity on me
I didn't know
The lovesick Trevor has informed me that it is my duty to die at the hands of Lord Niklaus, yet Trevor wants me to live on so we could be happy together
He told me to run to an abode of a woman named Rose, that she will keep me safe. I ran as fast as I could as I began banging on the door frantically.
Finally, the door opens and I'm welcome with the sight of an elderly lady. She begins closing the door on me.
I start speaking rapidly. My desperation unconcealed for everyone to see. "Please, Trevor said you'd help me."
Another woman I assume is Rose finally appears, when she sees me her face pales.
"No, I will have absolutely no part in this. You do not escape them. They will always find you." She says looking terrified
I can't accept that, "Please, I need your help."
Rose's tone turns to one of no negotiation, she speaks as she pulls me inside. "Going against the Old Ones means certain death. I shall return you when night falls. Be quiet and hope they have mercy."
I'm doomed
------
I hung myself
T'was the only way to escape
From what Trevor informed me, Lord Niklaus needed me as a human. The only way to survive is to turn into a beast same as them.
I didn't believe Trevor could've helped me escape from those monsters, yet he was good for something at least
Compelling the guests to cause a distraction was a welcome surprise
Now I am free
I must visit Bulgaria and inform my family of the monsters that lurk in the world.
-------
Everyone is dead
As I cry over my mother's disfigured corpse it hits me that this is my life now
On the run from the most vicious monsters ever created
How did I even escape?
Was it just luck?
Did they let me?
How couldn't those monsters stop me
Not just did they needlessly slaughter my family, but my entire village and the surrounding villages near us
Everyone is dead
Just because I ran
It's all my fault
