Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

Niklaus POV

We've been too complacent

We thought that just threats would keep the witches in line

We ruled over everyone for nearly 500 years and we thought that was enough to ensure that no one would dare go against us

Look where that got me

Still bound. Still empty.

'We need more examples' I thought darkly as I ripped the arm of a witch. "Why did you stop it, why did you allow her to escape." I say in a monotone voice in front of the 15 culprits who helped Katerina escape.

"ANSWER ME!" I yell quick losing my patience

One of these pathetic creatures thought they could act arrogant in front of me. She lifted her head up high and said "You are a stain against nature. To break that curse would-"

She didn't finish, before she knew it I cut off her traitorous head

The other witches paled knowing that I would be their end.

Their end was exactly what I was

Slowly.

Painfully.

Elijah POV

I do not like these doppelgangers

For some inexplicable reason they always seem to have a savior. Whether it was Rose Marie, Trevor, or those witches that were employed by us. Even with Tatia, Niklaus and I were always at odds. For some reason that I could not even recall there were times where I would sacrifice the bond with my brother just to see her happy.

Pathetic

In front of me is Rose Marie and Trevor, who were swiftly apprehended after Katerina's escape. One of our more loyal followers managed to capture them before they fled. They are both prostrated before me.

"Thank you for having the good sense to be frightened"

Rose Marie looks down, shaking, "I swear to you my lord I was going to bring her to you once night fell."

I shook my head before speaking. "Well your efforts were in vain, you see not only was Katerina turned but she escaped as well."

It was quite amusing to see the heartbroken look Trevor had on his face.

"You see Trevor, Katerina did not care for you at all. All she saw was someone she could use to help set her free. Once you freed her there was no use left for you in her eyes. If this were a different situation I would have found that broken look on your face quite amusing."

"Alas, not only did you turn her but you aided her in her departure."

I pause for dramatic effect, its in our blood after all.

"For what? Something as foolish as love?

Before he could speak his piece I removed Rose Marie's head from her body.

"No!" Trevor cried out as he stared at his compatriots detached head. He rushed out to go to her grab her but I intercepted him and lifted him by his throat. He tries to claw at my hand yet my grip remained firm.

"Why? Why did you kill her?" He yells frantically with my hand still on his throat

"It doesn't matter if she was loyal. It matters that she was important to you. You are the one who needs to learn about loyalty." I say as I tighten my grip on his throat

"As much as I want to disconnect your head from your body, that honour does not belong to me."

I quickly speed us to our dungeon that has been seen quite a lot of usage as of late due to the pests who believe betraying my family would go unpunished

Throwing Trevor in harshly I say my final words I shall ever speak to him, "My other brothers will be with you in a moments time. Please, familiarize yourself with the room."

"After all, it's the last you will ever see"

------

Rebekah POV

I never thought I would say this, but I am frightened of Niklaus

What we believed to be a rebellion of our witches turned out to be a much deeper scheme to free the doppelganger and stop Niklaus from breaking his curse

I have never seen him as enraged as he is right now

It worries me

We are all monsters, but I fear that what has transpired tonight will lead us to a path of no return

Niklaus seems to have abandoned all sense of humanity, yet I can not find it within me to blame him

490 years is how long he has waited

Yet everything lays in ruins due to the doppelwench and her coalition of witch bitches

He is currently out and about slaughtering the entirety of our town to make himself feel better

The only thing that would make him feel better would be Katerina in front of him willing to be sacrificed. He is on a pointless endeavor to distract himself from his failure

I am interupted from my thoughts as the door swings open and Niklaus storms inside

"Feel better Nik?" I ask hoping that he has calmed since then

He glares at me before saying, "Gather the rest of us, we must speak of our future"

He does not wait for a response from me before he quickly exits the room

I shall do what he says, who knows what will happen now

--------

Kol POV

Well, Nik's gone insane

I am enjoying it very much

This does not mean that I am not as livid as Niklaus is

Not because he could not unleash is mutt side, but because those witches dared defy us.

Those lesser creatures thought that they could go against us? How naive

Over the centuries I learned that being a witch just was not that special. At first I tormented them to get over the loss of my magic, but the more I tortured the clearer everything became

Why would I want to be such a lesser being?

I am so much more than a witch could even dream of being

Why focus on the past when I could revel in the present

T'is what I set out to do

I killed, maimed, tortured witches, and mortals alike. Not cause of jealousy or longing.

Just because I simply could

Just because I am better

Then these vermin believe they could betray us?

Preposterous

Nik did not get any information from the witches he massacred earlier but I managed to pick one up and she will speak to my entire family

After all, Rebekah called and said Niklaus wanted to convene

I drag her across the ground as she mumbles inefficient spells as I am just too powerful for them to affect me in any way

I open the doors to our meeting room in the most amazing way possible by kicking down the door while I drag the witch on the ground behind me

As if I would just enter a room as a common nobody

"Looks like I'm late" I say as I see all my siblings already gathered seemingly waiting for me. "Although, I doubt anyone decided to bring gifts to our little sibling discussion." I exclaim while I dangle the witch in my hand by her foot

They do not seem to be amused

What a bunch of stuck ups

"Sit down Kol" Finn says

"Yes Father" I respond quite wittily if I do say so myself

They all roll their eyes simultaneously

How on earth did they do that?

"Back to business" Niklaus speaks up, "We have grown lenient, believing that we were untouchable and no one would ever dare go against us. This incident with Katerina has only proven our incompetence. I tire of it"

Nik is not wrong, we have been ignoring discord in our ranks believing that no one would be foolish enough to attempt to usurp us

"What exactly do you propose Niklaus" Finn finally speaks his mind

"We need to become worse, we need to instil loyalty one way or the other. Whether we threaten, kill, torture, or just bloody compel everyone. We need to do something because I will never allow something like this to happen again." Nik declares

"Is that not what we have been doing this entire time Nik?" I finally speak up, I know they were just waiting for my opinion on the matter

He turns to look at me, "No we have not Kol, we occasionally make examples of the fools who cross us but it is never dramatic enough that it instils a primal fear into those under us. We need leverage"

"I knew you loved your dramatics," I chuckled softly

He scowled, "I am not in the mood for your incessant mockeries."

I raise my hands in defeat dropping the witch that I am still holding onto for some reason, "Just trying to lighten the mood Nik"

No one looks amused

The witch on the ground lets out a groan causing everyone to finally put their attention on her

Elijah is the first to comment, "Now what do we have here?"

Surprisingly, Finn is the first one to rush towards the witch

He picks her up my the throat and asks, "Why did you help see to Katerina's freedom? Why did the witches betray us for her?"

"I don't think she can answer with you crushing her bloody windpipe," Rebekah exclaims

Finn realizes and drops her, "I forgot how fragile mortals were, now answer my questions."

The witch still struggling to catch her breath starts speaking through gasps, "We had to, they demanded that we stop the ritual by any means necessary."

"They?" Niklaus growls as I can see him losing the remaining patience he was holding onto

"Our ancestors, they speak to us from the other side to keep the balance of nature"

"Ancestors?"

"The other side?"

Nik and I say at the same time

The witch speaks up again, "The other side is where supernatural beings go when they pass, our ancestors are able to affect the living for us to carry out their orders in the name of nature."

Nik speaks up again with a barely concealed grin, "So if we took over the other side, not just would we own your ancestors, but every other supernatural being that passes?

His words make a smile appear on all our faces

"Looks like we found that leverage you were droning about Nik"
