Chapter 37 - 37

Under the cover of night, Huang Wen headed towards the former location of the Goren Gang's karate dojo. Huang Wen had gathered some intelligence, indicating that the precinct where Captain Yves worked was secretly transferring the Goren Gang's assets, using overseas channels.

As for the source of this information, it naturally came from the gang behind Kingpin, whom Reese Fisk served. Compared to Kingpin's organization, not only was the Goren Gang insignificant, but even Captain Yves's precinct had Kingpin's people within it.

Therefore, Huang Wen planned to scout the area tonight to see if he could find an opportunity to act. If not, he at least needed to ascertain Captain Yves's movements.

As for whether Huang Wen was concerned that Kingpin would know he was responsible for the Goren Gang's demise, or if Kingpin would suspect him after Captain Yves's eventual death?

Huang Wen was indifferent. In fact, Huang Wen knew that Kingpin was already aware of his involvement in the Goren Gang's affairs. However, he and Kingpin were not enemies.

Especially since Reese Fisk was still training at the Wing Chun martial arts gym and even staying at Zhong Qiang's house every day, there was no need for Kingpin to fall out with the Wing Chun martial arts gym.

Furthermore, Huang Wen was already very powerful. If he were to display even more formidable abilities, Kingpin would have even less reason to be his enemy, as they had no conflicting interests.

Before long, Huang Wen arrived outside the karate dojo. He observed it from a distance; there seemed to be no activity, as if no one was inside.

"Kingpin's information shouldn't be wrong..." Huang Wen frowned as he looked towards the dojo. This was intelligence obtained by Kingpin's organization from within the precinct; how could it be incorrect?

Instinctively, Huang Wen walked towards the dojo. Upon reaching the entrance, he noticed something was amiss.

Originally, the dojo door should have been sealed with a police tape from the precinct. However, the tape was still there but had been broken in the middle, meaning someone had entered the dojo.

Just as Huang Wen was debating whether to enter the dojo, the door opened. Leading the way was Captain Yves, followed by several police officers. Some held firearms, and most surprisingly, two men were carrying out a safe.

However, what happened next left Huang Wen even more dumbfounded. He watched as Captain Yves meticulously peeled off the tape from the door, then produced a brand-new, identical tape, even with the same date, and re-affixed it to the door.

It overlapped perfectly, as if he had practiced countless times!

And that wasn't all. After doing all this, Captain Yves waved at a nearby camera. Huang Wen's mind stirred, and he immediately ordered the Swallowtail to check the nearby surveillance cameras.

Soon, the Swallowtail responded: although the surrounding cameras continued to record after dark, the footage had long since been replaced with recordings from the previous few days.

In other words, Captain Yves and his men had never appeared on camera, the cameras were never broken, and the dojo door had never been opened.

"What a performance!" Huang Wen shook his head with a sigh. "In terms of professionalism, even top-tier thieves can't compare to you!"

Huang Wen had no intention of correcting the surveillance footage. A misleading surveillance record would actually make his actions easier. At least, with no surveillance showing Captain Yves's presence, no one would know that Captain Yves was killed by him.

At this thought, a cold glint flashed in Huang Wen's eyes. Watching Captain Yves lead the officers down a nearby alley, Huang Wen followed.

Before long, Captain Yves arrived at the entrance of a small house. He signaled his subordinates, and several officers blocked the doorway while Captain Yves, carrying firearms, entered with the two officers carrying the safe.

Huang Wen frowned at this.

The flaw in the Swallowtail's invisibility once again became apparent. Huang Wen was invisible in form but still had a physical body. When the officers completely blocked the door, Huang Wen had no way to pass through the wall.

Fortunately, not much time passed before Captain Yves emerged with the two officers, a look of dissatisfaction on his face. The items he had carried in were left inside.

Huang Wen speculated that the house was likely a fence for stolen goods. Captain Yves's frowning expression upon exiting probably meant the selling price wasn't to his satisfaction.

However, Huang Wen wasn't concerned with these issues. He also had no intention of going in to seize the Goren Gang's assets, even though, theoretically, these assets were his spoils of war.

But doing so would be too easily exposed. Plus, Huang Wen had no channels for fencing stolen goods. If he went through Kingpin, he'd feel bad if he didn't give up a cut, so he simply couldn't be bothered. Anyway, the ten million dollars from last time would last him a long time.

"Alright, the matter is settled. We just wait for the money to arrive!" Captain Yves surveyed his subordinates. "Keep your mouths shut and don't let any information leak. The money that's due to you, neither I nor the boss will shortchange you!"

"Thank you, Captain Yves!" The officers all smiled, looking very obsequious. "Then, Captain Yves, we'll be leaving first..."

"Go on, go on!" Captain Yves impatiently waved his hand. Watching his subordinates leave, he glanced back at the small house behind him, a hint of displeasure flashing in his eyes. "Hmph! You dare to profit from me and Boss Dickinson's money? You'll get what's coming to you!"

With that, Captain Yves took a deep look at the door of the small house and walked out of the alley. Huang Wen stood by the roadside. After hearing Captain Yves's words, his eyes suddenly lit up.

This was simply a golden opportunity! Was there a better scapegoat than the people inside that small house?

Unequal distribution of profits, resentment, and dying near the small house... Others might not know what Captain Yves was doing there, but would Captain Dickinson not know?

At this thought, Huang Wen took out a sunflower seed and cracked it as Captain Yves walked closer and closer.

"Crunch! Crunch!"

"What was that sound?" Captain Yves happened to be passing by. Upon hearing the noise, a hint of suspicion flashed in his eyes. He cautiously looked around but saw nothing.

Huang Wen gently waved his hand, and a sunflower seed shell landed between Captain Yves's outer jacket and shirt collar, getting stuck there.

"Bang!" Just as Captain Yves exited the alley and rounded the corner, an explosion rang out, and Captain Yves's head was separated from his neck.

Huang Wen shook his head as he heard the faint commotion from the small house after the explosion. They were already involved in illegal activities, so what if they truly weren't responsible? The death of a police captain would surely require a scapegoat, otherwise, Captain Dickinson wouldn't be able to bear the responsibility.

And the small house, already involved in fencing stolen goods and having had a disagreement with Captain Yves, was naturally the perfect scapegoat.
