"Shiki Uzumaki, we're on the same team."
Chapter 81: Team 9
Sena Hoshino sat on a brown wooden chair, her eyes skimming through the words in her book, while reaching out to pick up a cup of tea from the table and take a gentle sip.
After placing down the teacup, she spoke in her usual calm tone.
"Shiki Uzumaki, I heard from Yuuma that you don't seem to want to be on the same team as her."
So it really was like that?
When Sena Hoshino wanted to talk with Shiki Uzumaki, he had already anticipated this situation.
After all, during lunchtime, Yuuma had stayed behind to eat with Sena Hoshino.
"It's because Yuuma is too fragile," Shiki Uzumaki replied. "I worry about her being in danger when doing missions—especially when she follows both me and Seiji Ito around."
Shiki Uzumaki couldn't help but think of Seiji Ito. He himself wasn't exactly ordinary either.
Sena Hoshino gave a slight nod, "If that's the case, then I feel relieved. At first, I thought you really disliked Yuuma that much."
Shiki Uzumaki responded, "That could never happen. Though she does stick close to me often, which can get annoying at times."
"Stick close?" Sena Hoshino closed her book. "She probably believes that if she lets go of anything near her, even slightly, she'll be forgotten and left behind forever. She needs someone to rely on—it must be lonely growing up as an orphan. That's why by your side, she acts so cautious, yet clingy. Actually, she's just a naive girl."
Shiki Uzumaki seemed to hear a sigh.
"She's so naive that she never feels safe. She fears that if she lets go of anything near her, even slightly, she might lose all the warmth around her."
Shiki Uzumaki remained silent in that moment. In truth, hadn't he always known everything Sena Hoshino had said?
Still, his team had become more trouble than it was worth.
His mind was messy, and ironically, the one who feared chaos most ended up with the messiest team.
Even for Seiji Ito, whose quiet and cold personality would surely take time before they could fully mesh together.
Dong! Dong! Dong!
The somewhat old wooden clock in the room struck noisily. Shiki Uzumaki knew—he was out of time now.
"Well then, let me meet our supervising Jonin first, before thinking too much about this."
Shiki Uzumaki stood up and walked outside.
The summer heat made everyone sluggish; most were resting at home or taking naps. Occasionally, children from the Ninja Academy could be seen heading toward school.
Since there was no urgent reason to hurry, Shiki Uzumaki strolled along slowly.
Lost in thought, he reached the Ninja Academy, only to find Yuuma and Seiji already waiting for him.
Yuuma greeted him with her usual cheerfulness.
Standing still, Seiji Ito glanced briefly at Shiki Uzumaki, saying nothing.
Shiki Uzumaki nodded toward Yuuma and asked, "Has our supervising Jonin arrived yet?"
"Not yet, but the teacher said he should be coming soon, right?" Yuuma Akimoto explained.
Actually, students should normally wait in their classrooms for their assigned Jonin instructor to arrive.
However, since Shiki and Yuuma's team consisted of students from different classes, it made more sense to wait in the schoolyard instead.
Cough! Cough!
A frail cough rang out from somewhere. Shiki turned his head and saw Hayate Gekko entering through the school gates.
What's going on?

Not really surprising, to be honest.
Shiki gave an expression of complete indifference.
Seiji Ito then tried to force a smile, but it looked terribly awkward on him.
Their reactions left Hayate somewhat embarrassed.
Only Yuuma Akimoto squealed with excitement, "Oh wow! So it's actually Sensei Hayate leading us? That's totally awesome!"
Hearing Yuuma's words, Seiji finally saw a chance to save face. Honestly, Shiki and Seiji were completely uncooperative.
But then—
Shiki patted Yuuma's shoulder and asked, "Do you actually know Instructor Hayate?"
Yuuma cutely nodded her head. "Not at all!"
My soul just eroded away...
Hayate suddenly felt his condition take a turn for the worse in that very moment.
A feeling of wanting to spit out blood arose.
That cute little girl... If you don't even know me, why on earth are you so excited? And while nodding, no less, saying "not at all acquainted"?

Suddenly there was a bang that drew everyone's attention.
Right beside them, Kakashi had just opened a classroom door and stuck his head inside when the chalk eraser fell directly onto his head.
