Chapter 181 - Chapter 181

"The upcoming match won't be dangerous for Temari. That person who thinks he's so noble and kind is just trying to show her his determination."

Gaara turned his gaze back to his siblings below, seemingly indifferent to Kankuro's provocation.

Kankuro controlled Corpse Crow with Chakra Threads, fingers constantly twitching as he repeatedly prepared to strike.

But ultimately hadn't made a move yet, staring at Gaara's calm expression, wondering whether he himself had taken the wrong medicine or if Gaara had?

"Is this person really Gaara?"

Chapter 155: Backdrop Knight

No matter how Kankuro thought about it, the person standing before him was already somewhat different from that cruel and violent Gaara in his memories.

Although he had never truly understood Gaara's worldview, never grasped why Gaara regarded death as love, why he considered slaughter as love.

He just needed to remember one thing—the psychology of the person before him was absolutely twisted.

Yet now he seemed to have become normal?

Though this "normalcy" actually looked somewhat unnatural on him.

Baki, watching Gaara not go berserk, couldn't help but relax slightly. Although Gaara's current state felt very strange, compared to him going on a rampage...

This was already the best possible outcome Baki could accept.

He shifted his gaze toward Kankuro, who was still hesitating.

"Gaara is right. Shiki Uzumaki is merely trying to intimidate Temari. The real look of someone intending to defeat or even kill an opponent wouldn't be like this."

From the beginning, he had already seen through Shiki's trickery. Actually, the jonin present generally could discern that there was still much lacking in Shiki's intimidation.

Therefore, none of the jonin intervened in the matters among the genin.

Of course, both Konoha and Sunagakure jonin had their own reasons.

For Baki, living in the current Sunagakure was relatively harsh. As a jonin, he naturally wanted to give his disciples more training.

Unless absolutely necessary, he would never personally intervene.

As for Konoha's jonin, Kakashi and Might Guy, their trust in Shiki had grown considerable.

Since they had sensed Shiki's intentions, they wouldn't interfere either.

Only Temari, facing Shiki Uzumaki's intimidation, felt an indescribable chill—as if someone were gently dragging a kunai across her throat.

However...

So what?!!

Temari's originally slightly panicked gaze suddenly became determined again, carrying a teasing edge.

"Do you really think Sunagakure ninja will submit just by intimidation?"

Her voice rang clear and firm, her tanned chin slightly lifted. At this moment, Temari resembled an undefeated queen.

Even without anyone admiring her, she proudly lifted her head to face everything.

Hah! As if she'd ever admit defeat?

Even if it cost her life, how could she betray her own principles under the threat of a mere Konoha genin?

At this moment, her hand slowly reached for her fan. She had no fear of engaging in battle with the one before her.

"That won't be necessary."

A voice, smooth and flowing like gentle stream water, reached Temari's ears—soft but unwavering, as if brushing aside her readiness for combat.

Temari looked ahead. The red-haired teenager, bearing a striking resemblance to Gaara, had already turned around and was heading toward the spectator seats. He cradled Tenten casually, looking perfectly ordinary—as if he had shed every trace of danger.

The immense pressure from just a moment ago had completely vanished, as if it had never occurred at all. This handsome yet gentle-looking boy seemed perpetually harmless.

But

Temari furrowed her brows. After threatening her, did he really intend to walk away so easily?

"Are you—the one called Shiki Uzumaki—a coward?"

Temari's voice rang crisp and clear, reaching every single person present.

Anyone could see the fire in her eyes.

"What happened with Shiki? After saying all those strange things and even threatening that female ninja from Sunagakure, he just walked off like nothing ever happened!"

Kiba scratched his head hard, still having that same impatient temper.

Akamaru barked unhappily from atop Kiba's head.

"I-I think… Shiki must have had a reason," Hinata tried to defend him, though her voice weakened by the end.

She still wasn't accustomed to speaking in front of such a massive crowd.

"A coward, am I?"

Shiki spoke slowly, as if in deep thought, but still keeping his back toward Temari.

"Of course not. You've already accepted my point of view, haven't you?"

"When have I ever agreed with you?"

Temari shot back—but abruptly stopped mid-sentence.

She stood frozen, slightly dazed.

From the very beginning, she claimed the ninja world is one where the strong rule over the weak—a world where the weak must submit.

Yet she herself defied that belief. Even when facing someone far stronger, someone capable of threatening her, she would unhesitatingly fight. Never betraying her village, she would stand against those who could kill her in an instant, all for the people within that village.

Humans may be fickle creatures, but it's those unshakable beliefs—those we refuse to abandon no matter the odds—that truly define what it means to be human, don't you think?

How many see the world as bleak and dark, willing to sacrifice everything for personal gain? Isn't the essence of human relationships merely about interests?
