Chapter 8 - “Bugs in the System”

The sun barely peeked over Liria's east wall when the first tremor rippled through the kingdom—a whisper, strange and electric, that tickled even the roots of the oldest trees. By now, the palace was accustomed to wild displays of magic and childish "patch notes" from its prince, but this morning was different. Throughout the city, windows flickered with illusory screens, momentarily displaying cryptic code only for it to vanish with a soft chime.

The Glitch Appears

In the palace library, Prince Caelum was already engrossed in his own world, tracing algorithmic shapes in the air. Recent lessons from the Eight had sparked questions that buzzed louder than the morning bells. While his parents and the assembled leaders poured over ancient scrolls and debated which lessons to attempt next, Caelum stared at a new, pulsing prompt only he could see:

[System Alert: Critical Error. Unauthorized Access Detected.]

Before Caelum could blink, the lights in the library flickered. Books shuffled themselves messily. An icy breeze gusted through a closed window. From the edge of the hall, Sir Zephion darted in with a report: "Something's wrong in town—mirages, reversed gravity, shops selling upside-down bread!"

Emperor Magnus arrived, his cloak askew. "The boy?" he asked, worry lacing his rumbling voice.

But Caelum shook his head. "Not me—something else is writing."

A New Opponent?

Suddenly, in the garden, a swirling distortion formed—a silhouette, hazy and shifting, formed from stray lines of blue code. It flickered, sometimes appearing as a child, other times as a shadowy adult. It cackled—a sound both mechanical and eerily familiar.

"Greetings, little admin. Systems shouldn't have loopholes."

The Eight rose to full alert. Lady Pyrra's fingers burned with fire. Lord Umbra melted into protective gloom. All their powers responded sluggishly, as if slowed by invisible interference.

"Who are you?" Caelum asked, stepping forward bravely.

"Call me a… System Bug. Or perhaps, an 'Admin Rebound.' When one power becomes too strong, the universe creates a counterweight. I am that balance. Ready to play, Prince?"

Chaos Unleashed

Instantly, the palace's magical defense spells flickered, and the ground outside split in a mishmash of contradictory elements: water steamed and froze midair, shadows turned into spotlights, and walls bent into Escher-like stairs. The very code Caelum relied on began to stutter with "ERROR 404: Context Not Found."

The leaders fought to regain control. Lady Solaria's light mixed with Lady Mirene's water, creating a shield, while Sir Zephion zipped through the garden, disrupting bugs where he found them. But everything depended on Caelum, who felt the "admin commands" failing—someone, or something, was trying to overwrite his control.

King Alden and Queen Mira called out, their voices full of love and faith: "Caelum, remember what you've learned—there's more to power than rewriting! Sometimes, you have to debug."

Debugging the Heart

Closing his eyes, Caelum reached deep within himself, recalling his playful tweaks, the lessons learned from the Eight, and the laughter shared with his family. Power wasn't just lines of code—it was connection, intent, hope.

He opened his eyes, facing the Bug. "System: Run Restoration Program—User: Family."

A pulse, gentle as a mother's lullaby, swept through the chaos. The wild magic slowed. The error messages faded. The Bug screamed, splitting into a million blue sparks that returned, harmless, to the world.

For a moment, everything was still.

A New Understanding

The dignitaries, panting and wide-eyed, realized the truth: The greatest strength wasn't just power or even mastery—it was the unity that comes when people support and believe in each other, turning glitches into growth.

Emperor Magnus clapped Caelum on the shoulder. "Well done, little admin. You haven't just fixed the world's magic—you've reminded us all why it's worth protecting."

As dusk fell, the palace sparkled with new light, laughter echoing through the chambers. For now, the system was stable, but everyone knew: as long as rules could be rewritten, adventure and challenge would never be far behind.

And as Caelum drifted to sleep, the system's soft voice echoed in his dreams:

"Congratulations, Prince Caelum. Patch Successful. Level Up Unlocked."
