Chapter 109 - The Missing Ballistic Missile

Peter Parker was lying in a bed at the New York University Medical Center Rusk Rehabilitation Institute. It was the best rehabilitation hospital in the United States. If it were before, he wouldn't have been able to stay in such a high-end hospital. The ten days of hospitalization costs were enough to bankrupt Uncle Ben.

He and Bob Eagle were staying in the same ward, unable to come and go freely, feeling a tacit surveillance, a kind of imprisonment.

George Stacy was in another ward. His outstanding performance during the Lizard-Man incident was seen by the entire American people. CNN even hired lip-reading experts to interpret several of his conversations during the incident.

His future was bright, and both the Republican and Democratic parties were trying to win him over. He would at least have an overwhelming advantage when running for mayor of New York City.

The news was playing on television, and the New York City District Attorney had filed a lawsuit against the Osborn Group. The New York City Police Department and the FBI had launched an investigation into the Osborn Group, investigating the relationship between the Osborn Group and the Lizard-Man and the Green Goblin.

"Is the Green Goblin really an experiment of the Osborn Group?"

Peter Parker couldn't contain his strong curiosity and asked. CNN's video of Captain Johnson kneeling was captured by some people and made a big deal out of it, claiming that the Green Goblin was also a modified person of the Osborn Group.

Mexico even publicly demanded compensation from the Osborn Group for the losses in Mexico City. The Mexican government's extremely low operational efficiency meant that they had not yet completed the post-disaster reconstruction work, and a large number of refugees were still homeless.

"I don't know either, but I don't think so. We're just some unlucky guys who got chosen. We haven't had any contact with anyone else from the Osborn Group, except for those bastards in the Veterans Hospital and secret labs. You know, those of us who've had animal genes mixed in, we have a really sharp intuition. I think he was just scared shitless by the Green Goblin's power."

Bob Eagle said.

Peter Parker nodded, and an awkward silence fell over the room again. During his stay in the hospital, Uncle Ben, Aunt May, and the Stacy family had all come to visit him. It was only now that Peter realized that Chief George Stacy was Gwen Stacy's father.

His bedside was piled high with flowers and various fruits.

But no one ever visited Bob Eagle; he was always alone in his bed.

"Uh, Mr. Eagle, you want some durian?"

Peter Parker asked, picking up a durian. The Stacy family had brought it when they visited. It was the first time he had ever tasted the tropical fruit, and he was amazed. He was completely won over by the taste the first time he tasted it.

How could there be such a delicious fruit in the world!

Bob Eagle had a complicated expression on his face. Thanks to the Lizard Serum, his sense of smell was incredibly acute, and every time Peter Parker ate durian, it was torture for him.

The door to the ward opened, and a doctor with a horse-like face walked in.

"How are you feeling? Any pain in your ribs?"

Dr. Stephen Strange asked as a matter of routine. He had already reviewed the CT scans of these two special patients a few days ago. Their injuries had long since healed. The only reason they were still in the hospital was due to the requests of a special department.

Bob Eagle had been as lively as a dragon and tiger the day after he was brought in, while Peter Parker, whose injuries were less severe, had been bedridden for five days. George Stacy, who was the least injured of the three, was still in the intensive care unit.

This kind of surprising contrast made one marvel at the Osborn Group's leading position in biotechnology. It was a pity that the side effects of this biological serum were too great; otherwise, its widespread use would promote the comprehensive evolution of the human species.

Stephen Strange shook his head. Even if he was truly desperate, he wouldn't choose to risk using the Lizard Serum. His greatest confidence lay in his clever mind and skillful hands, and he didn't want to turn into the kind of inhumane beast seen in the video.

"Doctor Strange, my body is completely healed. When can I get out of here?"

Peter Parker didn't yet realize he was under house arrest. He hadn't lifted weights in ten days. It made him feel awful, since he was used to exercising.

"I'm sorry, but we haven't yet determined whether the alien genes in your bodies will spread to others in daily life, so you two can't be discharged."

Dr. Stephen Strange stated the previously prepared reason in a calm tone. In fact, he didn't have the authority to discharge either of them.

A flurry of urgent knocking came from outside the ward.

"Come in!"

Dr. Stephen Strange raised an eyebrow. Today wasn't visiting day.

A slender beauty walked in from outside. She had a head of red curly hair and was stunningly beautiful. Dr. Stephen Strange and Bob Eagle, who had seen a lot, were fine, but Peter Parker didn't know where to look.

"Hello, I'm Agent Natasha Romanoff from S.H.I.E.L.D."

Natasha Romanoff introduced herself directly. Nick Fury thought that sending a woman would be better for cooperating with the Lizard-Man, Bob Eagle, and Spider-Man, Peter Parker, to eliminate their distrust of S.H.I.E.L.D., so he assigned her this mission.

Dr. Stephen Strange shrugged and knowingly walked out of the ward. Although he had a very bad personality, he had cooperated with these government departments several times because of his superb medical skills, and he knew very well what he shouldn't listen to.

"You were both at the scene of the Lizard-Man riot. Can you confirm that Winston Johnson is really dead?"

Natasha asked. They had recovered and preserved all the Lizard-Man corpses, but Winston Johnson's was missing.

"I can't be sure, but it's hard to imagine him surviving such a violent explosion. You know, almost half the street collapsed at the time."

Bob Eagle showed a cooperative attitude; he knew that only in this way could he get out of this hospital, which was actually a prison.

"Were all the Lizard-Men present during the Lizard-Man riot?"

Natasha asked the second question.

"Everyone who received the Lizard Serum with me is accounted for, but I'm certain one person is missing: the Lizard-Man who caused the Brooklyn Bridge Incident."

Bob Eagle was curious:

"What happened, Ms. Romanoff?"

Natasha didn't hide anything, because S.H.I.E.L.D. needed their help.

"A U.S. military ballistic missile base was attacked. A Minuteman III ballistic missile disappeared from one of the launch silos. According to the surviving soldiers, the attacker was the Lizard-Man."
