Monica's POV
Darkness had fallen outside the tiny window slit. My heart clenched as I thought of my little boy. "Oh God, how is Austin doing?"
All day I'd been praying for my son's safety. Morris must be furious with me now. I'd disappeared without a word. But what choice did I have? I was desperate to protect my child and completely out of options.
After Colin had dropped off that sandwich earlier, the place fell eerily quiet. I assumed they'd left until I heard a door open and voices drift in. They were back. My pulse quickened as I pressed against the wall.
The door swung open abruptly. Tobias thrust a package at me. "Your dinner," he muttered before slamming the door shut again.
I immediately pressed my ear against the cold door, straining to hear their conversation.
"Dani, it's weird I can't get through to Cel," Colin was saying, his voice laced with concern.
Tobias sounded annoyed. "You should trash that phone already."
