Chapter 9 - War

In the early hours of the morning, I was watching the sun, but then my door was kicked open.

Only one person in this country would do such a thing—Morgan.

She pointed her hand at me: "You're not even coming to the room anymore. What's your problem?"

I mean, she's kind of right, but I just wanted to give her some time to think. For me, it was nothing more than a political marriage.

But I knew Morgan didn't think that way. What could I do? I was so afraid of Alaya and Gaia.

In the legend, Morgause cheated on me with King Pellinore. My sons later killed her. But now Morgan took her place, and I don't trust her—what can I say?

My paranoia has already surpassed Batman's. I wish Tibetan monks were here.

I sigh: "I just wanted to give you time to think—is that so wrong?"

Morgan doesn't say much but hugs me. But then she spots something—a hair on my clothes. It was purple.

She pulled it with her hand and held it up to my face. A dark aura started leaking from her: "While you were leaving me alone… were you meeting other women?"

Uh, I'm sweating. For some reason, I feel uncomfortable: "Hey Morgan, I can explain—do you want to hear?"

Morgan grabs my arm and starts dragging me toward the room.

But Ranulf sees us. He was looking for me anyway. He stands right in front of us—Morgan looks like she's about to kill him. I pray for your soul, Ranulf.

After saluting, Ranulf says, "My king, the Saxons have surrounded Camelot. King Uther is requesting aid. What should we do?"

Shit. I wasn't happy that there would be a war.

\[Mission: Your first battle against Vortigern – Repel him]

\[Reward: Ryūjin Jakka and Yamamoto's memories as compensation for a system bug]

Shit, shit—I have to win this war here. Orkney is an island kingdom, so we'll need to travel by ship. "Ranulf, prepare all the men. We're going to war."

Morgan grips my arm tighter: "Don't go."

I give her a strange look: "If I don't, your father will die." She just turns her head away.

I respond to her, gripping my arm: "Come on, my wife. This is our first real war."

Her face turns red. I gave orders to Ranulf, made sure enough food and supplies were prepared, asked the knights to get ready, and started examining the map of Britannia.

Since the mission was accepted and we were going to war, I studied the map.

1 day later

We're about five hours away from Camelot. The war probably hasn't ended. I found a good spot in a deadlock area.

We got off the ship with the soldiers. We took a slightly winding path because Vortigern and the Saxons came from the area we now call the Netherlands in modern times. They are of Germanic origin.

If they want to escape, they'll have to pass through the mountain path. I have 10,000 elite knights with me. Thanks to my training, each of them is worth 100 men.

I sent 2,000 knights to the marked spots on the paths to lie in ambush. Ranulf had already told me about the Saxon ship—our intel is solid.

I sent one of my trusted generals with the 2,000 knights.

With the remaining 8,000, we're walking toward the battlefield. We couldn't bring warhorses—there wasn't time—but we didn't need them.

We're rushing there fast. I can already see the battlefield in the distance. I turn to my knights:

"Now, brothers, this battlefield is the best place to show Orkney's power. You know King Vortigern's cruelty.

What if your families are next? Will you cry? Will you beg for mercy? No! I will fight until my last drop of blood.

Because being from Orkney demands this.

You will witness my strength on this battlefield. None of you will move unless I give the attack order—understood?"

The knights raised their hands in salute: "As you command, my king!"

I requested the reward from the system, and I can feel it inside me—Ryūjin Jakka.

I also got Yamamoto's memories. Ah—it hurts. Morgan holds me—I was swaying.

She looked worried: "Are you okay, Lott?"

I raised my hand: "I'm fine."

I saw the ones Yamamoto killed, I watched him push Ryūjin Jakka to its limit, I saw him fight Aizen and the others.

Lastly, I saw the battle with Yhwach. That man—Yamamoto—deserves respect. This memory also affected my reiatsu, but I'm suppressing it for now. I'm above captain level.

I still can't use Bankai, but Shikai is no problem.

I formed the formation for war, gave orders to my generals.

They won't come unless I give the order. From what we saw from afar, the enemy has around 15,000 troops, and I can see a silver glow and a red glow in the distance.

One is Vortigern, the other Uther.

Both seem to sense me. I asked my troops to stay back a little. I focused my reiatsu into my feet and used Shunpō to appear in front of Vortigern. I drew Ryūjin Jakka. Reiatsu soared into the sky. As I slashed at Vortigern

He backed off.

Uther's knights were killing Saxons. I looked back at Uther: "Are you okay, father-in-law? Pull your knights back."

Uther was coughing up blood. Vortigern had wounded him deeply: "Alright, Lott. I trust you."

Uther's voice echoed across the battlefield: "Knights, fall back immediately!"

On the walls above, Merlin appeared and put the Saxons in an illusion and pulled the knights back. Merlin came down to us: "King Lott, how are you since we last met?"

"Not the time to talk, Merlin. Take my father-in-law to the palace."

Before Uther could object, Merlin grabbed him and said, "Teleport."

Now, only I, Vortigern, and the Saxons remained. Vortigern stood before me: "What's wrong? Thought you could stop me, boy?"

"Try not to die, Vortigern," I smirk.

The Saxons were out of breath—they'd been fighting for days. They had no strength left.

My reiatsu was rising to the skies. The sun—my dragon lineage—wanted to fight. And guess what? It was noon. The sun was at its peak, feeding me. My reiatsu soared. The nearby Saxons turned to ash.

They were already trembling. Ryūjin Jakka seemed pleased to witness this war. Vortigern didn't stop—he appeared before me suddenly. His sword looked like it could swallow everything in darkness.

But I blocked it with Ryūjin Jakka and punched Vortigern in the face. He kicked my thigh.

Flames and darkness clashed around us. The Saxons were evaporating just from the heat.

Even Vortigern was sweating; he tried to absorb the flame and darkness but couldn't. It was like it was infinite.

I opened the mystic eyes of death perception. I don't know how many blows we exchanged per second, but we blocked every one.

Light vs. darkness.

From my aura alone, half the Saxons vanished. The rest tried to flee. My soldiers didn't even need to fight. The Saxons were ordinary people, or rather, severely undertrained.

I saw a weak point in Vortigern. I saw his death line. He tried to cut my head, but I sidestepped with my left and brought my blade down from above. Vortigern's forearm was cut.

I cut the death line. But then a sword stabbed into my shoulder.

Vortigern's face twisted: "Wait for me, you're going to die," he said. The battlefield had turned to ash. Vortigern vanished into the darkness. He was gone.

I had countless scratches on my body, but Vortigern's forearm was gone—forever.

I dropped to one knee, staying up with my sword. I ordered my knights to pull back and called Ranulf to summon the knights in ambush.

I ordered the knights in hiding to capture and return the Saxons they caught, all to be chained up.

Merlin appeared and without a word, teleported me to Uther. I had Vortigern's forearm in my pocket.

Uther was coughing blood: "Son, how'd it go? I felt something... but you look like you got beat up."

I smile, lean on the nearby wall, stand up, regain myself, and show Vortigern's forearm to Uther: "Vortigern's forearm is gone forever. He won't heal for at least 5 years."

Uther laughed from the bed: "That's my son-in-law! But before that—can I ask you something?"

I smile: "Sure, what do you want?" Just as King Uther was about to say something, the door opened—Morgan entered.

She walked in and slapped me in the face—then hugged me: "Why did you push yourself so hard? You could've sacrificed some knights and won easier."

I responded and hugged her tightly: "I'm sorry, my wife, but I'm not regretful. Just some small injuries."

Uther coughed. Morgan looked at him badly: "Old man, why did you involve my husband in this? Couldn't you just die alone?"

Uther scratched his head like he was ashamed: "It was all I could do. But I don't have much time left—maybe a year at most. I want to see my grandchildren, Morgan. And Lott—are you a man? That's all I'd ask."

I sigh. Father and daughter are both Penderagons. So troublesome: "Alright, father-in-law. I promise—if Morgan agrees."

Morgan's face turned red: "Idiot, I've been ready since yesterday."

Merlin opened the door: "Hey, am I interrupting something?"

Morgan tried to punch Merlin and shouted, "Fuck off!" But Merlin dodged slickly and raised his hands: "Calm down, princess."

I look at Merlin: "She's a queen now, Merlin. Know your place." Merlin was sweating, or at least looked like it.

But before we could say more, King Uther looked at Merlin: "Speak, Merlin, what is it now?"

Merlin looked like he had a headache: "Your Majesty, your people await your answer. 4,000 Saxon prisoners have been taken by King Lott and are being loaded onto ships."

King Uther looked like he expected an answer: "I have plans."

So what surprised King Uther was the planning. The Saxons were surrounded from all directions. Survivors surrendered. The rest were wiped out on the spot.

I added: "Father-in-law, don't forget to send my reward to Orkney."

I said, leaning on Morgan and looking at her: "Let's go, my wife."

The upper half of my body was naked, but it didn't matter. As Morgan held me, she kept burying her face into my chest now and then, and I stroked her hair.

It was time to return to Orkney.

(I wrote the battlefield part, friends. Artoria is 10 years old right now, so things are moving fast because of that. If you liked it, don't forget to comment.)
