Adrian's POV
"Didn't I tell you to stay in the car?" I asked, stepping over the leader's body and walking toward her. "Why are you so disobedient?"
I reached up and gently cupped her cheek.
She immediately leaned into my touch, her eyes fluttering closed for just a second. The gesture was unconscious, instinctive, and it brought a small smile to my face despite everything.
"Should I punish you for being disobedient, Seraphina?" I asked softly.
She pouted, "I was worried."
"About me?"
She pressed her lips together, then nodded. "Yes. About you."
Something warm filled my chest. What was this feeling? Happiness? Why? Because she cared about me? I didn't know, but I welcomed it.
"You should have stayed in the car," I sighed, my tone turning soft. "What if you'd gotten hurt?"
"But I'm fine, aren't I?" She gestured at herself as if to prove her point.
"But you could have—"
