Seraphina's POV
I flinched at the sharpness in his voice, but he didn't stop there. "You could have died! Do you even understand what that means?" he yelled.
"I do!" I snapped back, anger bubbling up in my chest. "But, I did it anyway. You are my mate. You were in danger. Protecting you was my most basic instinct. That's what mates do. But you clearly don't want me involved in anything that concerns you, right? I get it, Adrian! I shouldn't have interfered—"
"Interfered?" His voice broke on the word. "You think that's what this is about?"
He took a step closer, and I could see the storm raging in his eyes. "I'm angry because you scared the hell out of me!" he burst out. "You could have died right in front of me, and there was nothing I could do! You think I can just stand there and watch that happen?"
I froze.
