"Everything," Seraphina said, her voice soft but determined.
I thought for a moment, considering where to begin. The history of our world was vast, complicated, and in many ways, tragic. "Where should I start?"
Like an excited child eager to hear a bedtime story, she shifted closer, her eyes bright with curiosity. "From the beginning."
I looked at the excitement dancing in her eyes and couldn't help the small smile that tugged at my lips. Taking a breath, I began.
"Long ago, before our kind even existed, there was a child abandoned by the heavens. She was left alone in a dark forest, crying and afraid, with no one to care for her. But the wolves found her—a pack of wild wolves who had no reason to help a creature that wasn't one of their own."
"Yet they did. They protected her, fed her, kept her warm through cold nights, and raised her as if she were their own pup."
Seraphina's eyes widened, completely captivated.
