Seraphina's POV
The woman's words hung in the air like poison, and I felt something inside me snap. I wasn't that weak, pathetic woman anymore who would just take insults and stay quiet.
So, I straightened my shoulders and met her gaze directly. "Keep up with him?" I repeated. "I don't need to keep up with anyone. Adrian chose me, not the other way around. And if that bothers you, that's your problem, not mine."
The woman's eyes widened in shock. She clearly hadn't expected me to talk back. Her face flushed red, and her expression twisted with anger. "How dare you speak to me like that, you little—"
She took a step closer, her voice rising. "Let's be honest here. You're nothing but a gold digger! You're only with Adrian for his money. Why else would an eighteen-year-old girl marry a man eight years older than her? A man who already has a child, no less!"
Her words were harsh and cutting, meant to humiliate me in front of everyone.
