Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: The Third Executive

"But your good luck ends here."

As Lance spoke, the crowd of Team Rocket Grunts all sent out their Pokémon, packing the hallway to the brim in an instant.

Natsui and Sabrina stood back-to-back, pressed closely together, not daring to relax for a second.

"What now? Should we run?" Sabrina asked softly.

"Of course we can't run." Natsui shook his head, then took a Poké Ball from his waist and tossed it into the air. "Now that we've made it this far, how could we give up halfway!"

With a flash of blue light, a Pokémon with a nearly three-meter wingspan, a golden body, and crackling with electricity appeared before everyone.

"Is that a Zapdos!?"

"Whoa, this is the first time I've ever seen one!"

The Team Rocket Grunts cried out in alarm. Even Sabrina couldn't help but turn her head, her gaze toward Zapdos full of astonishment.

It was well known that such a Legendary Pokémon was extremely rare. An ordinary person might never see one in their entire life, let alone capture it or battle with it!

"Don't panic!" Seeing the commotion among his grunts, Lance shouted to calm them down. "So what if he has a Zapdos? Everyone, attack together!"

Natsui also gave his command: "Zapdos! Use Thunderbolt!!"

Zapdos was initially reluctant to obey Natsui's command. However, seeing attacks coming from both the front and the back, it cried out in anger and, to protect itself, had no choice but to unleash an indiscriminate attack in all directions.

A violent blast of electricity erupted from Zapdos's body, instantly neutralizing the other Pokémon's moves and continuing to spread until it engulfed more than half the hallway.

The moment Zapdos unleashed its Thunderbolt, Kirlia grabbed Natsui and Sabrina's hands and used Teleport to move them to the other end of the corridor, dodging the attack.

The electric light was incredibly blinding, and amidst the crackling, one could even hear the pained screams and wails of the Team Rocket Grunts.

By the time the light faded, the hallway was littered with fallen Team Rocket Grunts and their Pokémon.

"Darn it!"

Lance's face was grim as he turned to look at Natsui.

Because he had been far behind the crowd, he had luckily avoided being hit by the Thunderbolt. Gritting his teeth, he sent out his own Pokémon.

"You're not leaving here unless you can get past me!"

His Pokémon, just like the other executive, Proton, whom Natsui had met on the S.S. Anne, were a Zubat and a Weezing.

The sound of footsteps continued to echo as many more Team Rocket Grunts ran in from the stairwell, standing behind Lance.

"Tch." Natsui sighed. "They just keep coming. What a pain."

Just then, Sabrina took a step forward, standing in front of Natsui, leaving him with only her alluring silhouette.

"Alright, leave this to me. Now, you go do what you need to do."

"But…" Natsui hesitated for a moment, but he knew the situation was urgent and this was no time for courtesy or delay. Besides, Sabrina's abilities were exceptional, so he really didn't need to worry too much.

"Okay, I'll leave Zapdos and Gastly with you to help. You have to be careful!"

After speaking, without waiting for Sabrina's agreement, he took Kirlia and ran unimpeded towards the president's office.

"Damn it! You, stop right there!"

Seeing Natsui leave, Lance tried to step forward and stop him, but after only a few steps, he saw Sabrina calmly toss out her own Poké Ball, blocking his path.

...

Natsui pushed open the office doors and saw an old man collapsed on the sofa. Other than him, the entire office was empty.

Huh? Giovanni isn't here?

Remembering the helicopter that had just departed, Natsui already had his answer.

With no time for details, and seeing that the old man's demeanor and attire clearly didn't belong to Team Rocket, Natsui quickly walked over and helped him up.

"Are you alright?"

The old man opened his eyes, looked at Natsui, and also breathed a sigh of relief.

"You police sure took your time getting here…"

"Sorry." Natsui shook his head. "I'm not the police. I was just asked by someone to come here and check on the situation."

"What!?" The old man's eyes widened in disbelief. "You're not the police and you still managed to break in this far? That's incredible! What about those Team Rocket members outside…"

"That's right." Natsui paused his words, letting the old man hear the continuous screams coming from the hallway. "They're still out there. We should hurry up and leave."

However, just as he was helping the old man and about to have Kirlia use Teleport to get them out, a woman's voice suddenly echoed through the room.

"I knew that guy Lance couldn't be trusted. To think he'd still let a rat slip in. What a waste of the Boss's trust."

Natsui spun around, only to find that in a corner of the office, a woman in a white Team Rocket uniform with red eyebrows and red hair was now standing there, as if from nowhere.

Her appearance was like that of a ghost, eerie and traceless.

"Who are you?" Natsui asked.

"Allow me to introduce myself." The expression on the woman's face looked fierce and domineering. "My name is Ariana. I am a research scientist, and just like that good-for-nothing outside, I am also one of Team Rocket's executives."

"Another executive?" Natsui looked her up and down. "And a researcher?"

Ariana nodded with a smile: "My main field of study is the strange soundwave that forces Pokémon to evolve. I came here today hoping to see the legendary Master Ball, but I didn't expect this old geezer's lips to be so sealed."

Seeing the woman's obviously malicious intent, Natsui grew vigilant, but he smiled and said, "Since you're a researcher, getting your hands dirty would be beneath your status, wouldn't it? How about this, we pretend we never saw each other, and you let us leave safely?"

"You're quite the talker, kid." The woman said with a fake smile. "I wonder, would you be willing to tell me who you are?"

"I can't do that." Natsui shrugged. "My mother once warned me never to tell my name to mean-looking, unpleasant ladies."

The two of them seemed to be joking, but in reality, it was a tense standoff, with neither willing to back down.

"..." Ariana's face darkened, clearly angered. "Is that so. In that case, I have even more reason not to let you leave."

As she spoke, she took out two Poké Balls and sent out her Pokémon.

These two Pokémon were a creature coiled up like a giant cobra—an Arbok.

And another, a Pokémon that looked like a giant crow, black all over, with head feathers like a wizard's hat and a tail like a broom—a Murkrow.

At this point, Natsui didn't waste any more words with her and threw his own Poké Balls at the same time.

As flashes of blue light blinked one by one, in the next second, Ivysaur, Squirtle, Charmander, and Jolteon all appeared inside the office.

In an instant, the tension was palpable. A chaotic battle seemed inevitable!
