Chapter 93 - Chapter 93: Farfetch’d and the Thief

Natsui turned his head and saw a bush suddenly rustle. A Pokémon holding a leek stalk swaggered out from inside.

Its duck-like appearance and the distinctive stalk in its hand allowed Natsui to recognize it with a single glance.

So it was a Farfetch'd!

This Farfetch'd strutted proudly, seemingly humming an unknown tune as it casually walked right up to Natsui.

Huh? It's not afraid of people?

Natsui looked around but saw no sign of any other humans.

Is it a wild Farfetch'd?

Seeing that Natsui remained motionless, the Farfetch'd began to pace back and forth in front of him, as if trying to get his attention with this gesture.

But no matter how hard it tried, it wasn't particularly appealing to Natsui.

After all, just like Butterfree, Beedrill, Psyduck, and Persian, while Natsui liked them, he felt there was no real need to catch them.

So, for this Farfetch'd, Natsui neither liked nor disliked it; he didn't feel strongly about it at all.

He recalled a recent chat with Ash and the others, where they mentioned encountering a thief who used a Farfetch'd to commit crimes during their journey.

Combined with this Farfetch'd's unusual behavior, its origin was now obvious!

With a quick thought, Natsui decided to play along with this Farfetch'd and see what kind of scheme it was trying to pull.

"Oh, it's a Farfetch'd!" Thinking this, he feigned surprise, pretending to be drawn in by the Pokémon, and took out a Poké Ball. "Are you asking me to catch you!?"

Seeing this, the Farfetch'd thought Natsui had taken the bait. It cried out a few times, then suddenly sped up and fled into the nearby tall grass, disappearing behind a few large trees.

Natsui pretended to be anxious and chased after it, stepping into the tall grass.

However, by the time he got around the trees, the Farfetch'd was long gone!

"Sigh!" Natsui let out a fake sigh and shook his head. "What a shame, I lost it..."

Just as he finished speaking, the Farfetch'd suddenly popped its head out in the distance. Its expression was exaggerated and theatrical, its eyebrows twitching, all but shouting the words 'I'm over here! Come and get me!'

Natsui scoffed and, instead of paying it any more mind, turned back the way he came.

Sure enough, right where he had been standing, he saw a sharp-looking boy with a ponytail reaching for the backpack he had left there.

Natsui stared at him coldly. "You've been hiding for so long. You finally couldn't resist making your move?"

"What!?"

Seeing Natsui return, the boy was shocked. He looked at him in disbelief, his hand frozen in mid-air.

"Didn't you go after the Farfetch'd!?"

"Of course that was a trick! Otherwise, how would you have shown your true colors!?"

Natsui was quite pleased with his own impromptu performance.

If he were to give up on being a Pokémon Trainer and go back to work in the Kalos region, he might even be able to move from behind the scenes to in front of the camera, maybe landing a minor role with a few lines.

Just then, the sound of frantic footsteps came from behind Natsui. The Farfetch'd, seeing that things had gone wrong, had rushed back to stand in front of the boy.

Natsui's gaze swept over the boy and the Pokémon. "I heard from Misty that they once ran into a thief who used a Farfetch'd to scam and trick people. After battling you, I thought you had turned over a new leaf, but I see you're still up to your old tricks. It seems Officer Jenny made a mistake by not arresting you back then!"

"Misty?"

The boy's face changed. He certainly hadn't forgotten Misty, Ash, and their friend from a few days ago, nor the bold promises he had made to change his ways after being caught.

Seeing that he had been exposed, he didn't hesitate, grabbing the backpack from the ground and turning to run!

But to his surprise, the backpack seemed to sprout wings and flew high out of his hands!

As he watched in shock, the backpack slowly floated back to Natsui and landed securely in his hands.

"What... What's going on?"

Natsui shot him a dismissive look. "You didn't really think I'd be careless enough to leave my backpack here without any precautions, did you?"

As he spoke, a Haunter slowly materialized, grinning at the boy with a terrifying smile.

"Ah, hello there, Mr. Thief."

"Darn it!" the boy cursed under his breath. Without another moment's hesitation, he ran off into the distance.

"He's getting away," Haunter chuckled.

"I know." Natsui unhurriedly took out a Poké Ball and sent out Kirlia. "I'm counting on you. Stop him!"

Kirlia nodded gently and used Teleport. In the next instant, it appeared in front of the boy, blocking his escape route!

"Ah, I'm so sorry!" Seeing this, the boy slowly turned around, clasped his hands together, and said sincerely, "I was wrong, I was really wrong, please let me go!"

"If saying sorry was enough, what would we need the police for?" Natsui shook his head. "If it had been someone else, they would have fallen for your trick. It would be too late for tears by now, let alone apologies. I think I'd better hand you over to Officer Jenny."

"I had no choice," the boy continued to plead, playing the sympathy card. "My Farfetch'd is too weak, so we have to survive this way. We really don't want to steal."

"Stop making excuses." Natsui saw through his lie in a second. "In this day and age, as long as you're willing to work hard, you can make a living anywhere. I don't consider myself a saint, but I'll never let anyone take advantage of me. And this time, no matter what you say, you have to pay the price for your actions!"

Seeing that Natsui was completely unmoved, the boy finally dropped his act.

Ever since he realized his Pokémon's true strength, his thefts had become bolder!

"You want to catch me!?" the boy shouted. "Since you're pushing me this far, let's see if you have what it takes!"

"You want to settle this with Pokémon?" Natsui nodded. "That suits me just fine. But do you want to use normal battle rules, or my rules?"

"Your battle rules!?" the boy paused. "What's the difference?"

Natsui shrugged. "It's all just fighting. Of course there's no difference."

"Hmph!" the boy snorted with an impatient look. "Stop wasting time with pointless talk! Just bring it on! I'm going to show you just how powerful my Farfetch'd really is!"
