Chapter 241: God Against God! That Naked, Strange God Has a Very Olympian Vibe
...
Du Wa cautiously observed the naked god before him.
The Flashpoint event didn't just bring The Endless from the Vertigo Universe, but also Doctor Manhattan from the Watchmen Universe.
This guy was originally an ordinary person. After an experiment, he became a quantum life form, gaining all sorts of unimaginable powers and becoming the Watchmen Universe's sole, unbelievably powerful superhuman.
Unlike the vast majority of gods, including Du Wa, Doctor Manhattan possessed pitifully little humanity; instead, divinity held the overwhelming share. This left Doctor Manhattan with almost no personal emotions—only absolute, cold reason and the indifference of a god looking down on all life.
"You know a lot about me. This isn't normal. I can confirm that in my universe, a creature like the Xenomorph does not exist." Doctor Manhattan's voice had a naturally ethereal quality, a sound transmitted by vibrating spacetime with waves.
He watched this being who, just a few seconds ago, had been an ordinary person, then became a Xenomorph host, and was now the vessel for Du Wa's astral projection.
"Based on my observations, you, like me, are an outsider to this world. But you arrived earlier than I and the members of The Endless did. How did you manage it?" Doctor Manhattan asked.
"In this vast world, new beings are born at every moment."
"But you are not one of them. You were not born of this world, but entered it in a complete, self-contained form," Doctor Manhattan replied. "You also know of me. So, are you some kind of higher-dimensional observer? A visitor from outside the Source Wall? Or perhaps you come from a Xenomorph multiverse?"
"That's not important, and you lack the ability to investigate my origins. So, tell me, did observing my Xenomorphs cause even the slightest stirring in your mind?" Du Wa asked.
"Originally, yes, but not after you appeared. You are actively working to eliminate the diversity of life and achieve a great unification. This would indeed erase all disputes. Adrian approves of your methods."
Doctor Manhattan maintained a cold and indifferent attitude while speaking with Du Wa, completely unconcerned whether Du Wa was human or a god. "I came to this world to find 'answers,' but I didn't expect to find 'the end' first."
"All answers ultimately point to the final result. Before you make a move, you'd better think it through. I will not stand by and watch the likes of you act so wantonly within my territory. You are provoking a war between two deities, and perhaps even between two worlds," Du Wa said patiently.
Doctor Manhattan's appearance, effectively ringing the doomsday clock for this world, was a fascinating development. This was the journey of a god, engulfed by his own divinity, searching for a place to belong.
But Doctor Manhattan was destined to fail in finding what he sought, because the Main Universe had already been changed beyond recognition by Du Wa's hand. Nine out of ten superhumans were Xenomorphs, and Earth's de facto overseer had changed from the Justice League to Du Wa.
Doctor Manhattan considered expelling this dangerous outsider, Du Wa, to return the Main Universe to its original state. But doing so would be too deliberate and would inevitably affect the course of the Main Universe.
He pointed a finger at Du Wa and said slowly, "I have observed your history after you entered the Main Universe. You have presented a brand new answer, one that I had never before conceived."
Doctor Manhattan believed that even hope could decay, yet he had witnessed a god like Du Wa—a fellow outsider who had arrived in the DC world earlier than him and used far more radical methods to achieve his goals.
In 1938 and 1956, the entire DC world experienced one reboot after another, as the Golden Age and the Silver Age ended in succession.
But never before had someone as special as Du Wa appeared.
"Is incorporating the entire world as a part of yourself your answer to salvation?" Doctor Manhattan tilted his head. He sometimes couldn't tell which time node he was in.
"Salvation? Your premise is wrong from the start. I have no intention of being a savior. I just want all of creation to remember that I was here, and to ultimately stand above all things."
"Such pure ambition. But you have indeed become an obstacle to me. The future I see has become blurred and indistinct."
Doctor Manhattan intended to expel Du Wa. "You have already obtained what you wanted in this world. You are already a remarkable deity. It is time for you to leave and make enough room for me."
In an instant, a brilliant blue light enveloped the dark alley. All surrounding matter began to dissipate, turning into microscopic particles that exploded violently.
Du Wa's face showed no sign of surprise. When dealing with a being with barely any humanity, who was almost pure divinity, playing the game of appealing to emotion and reason was useless.
Similarly, Doctor Manhattan was a classic case of double standards, possessing a flexible set of principles—for the Watchmen Universe, he declared everywhere that he would not interfere with the universe's course, but for the DC world, he intervened forcefully, purely to satisfy his own curiosity.
And for a deity with too much divinity, curiosity was nothing short of a disaster—a death knell for the countless life forms tragically caught in the crossfire.
Now, Du Wa had become one of those affected, a major obstacle in Doctor Manhattan's quest to satisfy his thirst for knowledge.
Du Wa stood his ground, unmoving. He manipulated this body, using his formidable divine power to crush the quantum wave head-on.
"The foundation of this world is the Main Universe. The reason the Main Universe can exist is because of Superman. I need to observe Superman, but all I can see in the future is you," Doctor Manhattan announced in his ethereal voice, declaring his utterly dreadful discovery.
This was dire. While he had been reviewing the changes during the DC world's various reboots and investigating its secrets, Du Wa had exploited the opening to transform many domains, including the Main Universe.
"You pushed for the Flashpoint event to occur, giving me the opportunity to make contact with this vast world. But your mission here is complete. I must ask you to leave."
Dazzling, visible ripples erupted from Doctor Manhattan's body. Beams of blue light—highly concentrated bursts of infinite quantum energy—carried the immense power to reshape the world.
One could imagine that he had been waiting for this moment for some time.
But how could Du Wa possibly be willing to withdraw? Though Doctor Manhattan's appearance at this particular time node was somewhat surprising, it was nothing more than that. At Doctor Manhattan's level, he could walk between time nodes with ease.
The difference was, Du Wa was already a multiverse-level deity. His great power covered the history of an entire universe. No matter when Doctor Manhattan chose to strike, Du Wa would always be able to intercept him.
Just like now.
In an instant, terrifying beams of light began to tear apart the ground and pierce the heavens, but without the expected earth-shattering tremors. Instead, it was seemingly silent.
Endless matter was simply vanishing into thin air.
This was also the first time Du Wa had deployed the power he had gained after attaining godhood, entering a direct confrontation with the incredibly dangerous Doctor Manhattan.
Countless streams of divine power and quantum energy erupted in a head-to-head confrontation, annihilating each other on the spot. The destructive force broke through Earth's atmosphere and spread toward the entire Main Universe.
This battle erupted too suddenly and escalated too fiercely. From the moment it began, its sheer brutality shook the entire universe.
Furthermore, because of the exceedingly high-spec energy involved, it directly damaged the cosmic structure of the Main Universe. In other words, it could theoretically and indirectly affect the Multiverse, a fact that was utterly horrifying.
The two figures seemed to magnify infinitely, appearing at every time node. They easily broke through the universal barrier and entered The Bleed, stirring the high-dimensional, blood-red energy within.
This energy, which should have been viscous and dense, immediately began to boil like a raging ocean. With the two figures at its core, it spread across the entire Multiverse in the form of a gargantuan tsunami, shaking one universe after another with its impact.
But this was clearly only the beginning.
The true impact on the Multiverse would only appear when the two of them truly began to fight, their figures vanishing to reappear battling within the hyperspace flow.
"I had originally intended to persuade you to leave this world voluntarily, but that is clearly no longer an option. As you are now, you are merely using a single avatar to fight me. To force your withdrawal, I will need to use my full strength."
Doctor Manhattan spread his arms, and his blue body began to distort, rapidly dividing into many Doctor Manhattans.
What was even more astonishing was that every single Doctor Manhattan, regardless of whether it was the main body or a copy, radiated the exact same power signature.
"Not bad. Thank you for showing me the greatest characteristic of a quantum god," Du Wa said lightly.
Facing Doctor Manhattan, Du Wa had long been mentally prepared. The scene currently unfolding was also within his expectations.
The difficulty of trying to defeat Doctor Manhattan through brute force was simply staggering.
"In response, and also as the battle before I establish my authority in this Multiverse and carve out a territory in the Sphere of Gods, I have no choice. I can only use a portion of my power to deal with the trouble you've brought me."
The moment Du Wa's voice fell, a vast number of figures appeared. Regardless of their previous identities, at this moment, they were all Du Wa's avatars, Du Wa's vessels.
Each body carried Du Wa's concept to the fullest possible extent.
The greatest strength of a concept god is only truly realized upon advancing to the multiversal tier and achieving a state of omnipresence.
Every conceptual vessel was Du Wa. And every conceptual vessel, at its present time node and spatial coordinates, could bear the gaze and power of the multiversal Du Wa, instantly unleashing immense strength.
Theoretically, as long as Du Wa didn't push himself to the breaking point, or another deity of a multiversal tier didn't directly erase the dimension of spacetime itself—leaving the multiversal god Du Wa with no anchor point to affirm his concept—he could mobilize enough versions of himself to join the battle.
This was similar to how the Flash could pull numerous time remnants to help him fight, except Du Wa's method as a concept god was far more sophisticated than the Flash's.
Doctor Manhattan watched Du Wa, who was also increasing his numbers, tilted his head, and fell into a brief moment of thought.
Events had once again exceeded his predictions. This process of exploring the unknown gave him a minuscule sense of pleasure—for him, whose humanity had all but vanished, this was an exceptionally rare change.
Satisfying his curiosity was also the primary motivation for his wandering through the various universes and histories of the DC world.
"Now, it's gone from one-on-one to numbers versus numbers." A crowd of Du Was looked at the crowd of Doctor Manhattans opposite them. The energy radiating from these two groups was already causing the Multiverse itself to issue a mournful wail.
It was the creaking sound of the framework bending under an unbearable load, and the cry of rules shattering, their constraints gone.
The Multiverse is vast, capable of birthing endless life and an enormous number of worlds. But it is also incredibly fragile. If even one multiversal god were to fight all-out, it would easily damage the operational processes of the Multiverse, triggering terrifying changes across countless universes.
Unless they were determined to enact a reboot of the Multiverse, no multiversal god would truly fight with reckless abandon within the Multiverse itself.
If there was a real conflict, it would be resolved in the Sphere of Gods. As a 4.5-dimensional high-level domain, the Sphere of Gods was vast enough to fully bear the confrontation between multiversal gods and even more powerful deities.
The standoff between Du Wa and Doctor Manhattan instantly set the entire DC world ablaze.
A confrontation of this level shook the Multiverse. Its ripples extended directly into the Sphere of Gods, causing the divine energies of numerous gods to fall into temporary disarray.
This recklessness stunned far too many deities.
"He's insane, completely insane! That guy, Du Wa, didn't he just advance to a multiversal tier? Why didn't he even come to the Sphere of Gods before starting a fight?!"
"Utterly mad! I can see that even The Bleed has fallen into chaos. Countless universes are rising and falling. I don't want to see the Multiverse go through another reboot! Who knows what unacceptable changes might happen if it's rebooted again?"
In the beginning, during the Golden Age, there was only one Earth in the Multiverse. After the Golden Age ended, various parallel universes appeared, and all sorts of Supermen and Batmen took their turns on stage, greatly filling out the complex 'story' content of the Multiverse.
"The Flashpoint event brought The Endless, and before Flashpoint, that strange god Du Wa appeared! Such a major event was only a soft reboot of the Multiverse. If there's another full reboot, some of the weaker gods among us might have our origins completely rewritten. A steep drop in strength would be getting off easy!"
"Hmph, wasn't Darkseid's avatar in the New 52 Universe rebooted once and had its origin altered? It's a good thing the New 52 Universe didn't become the permanent main world. It didn't exist for long before Du Wa violently ended it. Otherwise, the Darkseid in the Sphere of Gods wouldn't have escaped either!"
If even Darkseid could be affected, which of the other numerous gods had the absolute confidence to face a hard reboot?
"But who is that guy fighting Du Wa? Why isn't he wearing any clothes? That's very much in the style of the Olympian pantheon. Zeus, you need to come out and explain this to us! Is this a major event plotted by you Old Gods?"
