Chapter 244: You're Using a DC Sword to Slay a Marvel God?
Whether the DC World is in chaos or not, Ghost has the final say.
At least, Ghost himself believed that as an avatar of The Presence, a being who could easily pass through the Source Wall, he could not be killed no matter how powerful the enemy he faced in the DC World was.
Unless the enemy was also from outside the DC World and had an equally earth-shattering backer.
As one of the Spirits of Vengeance, the greater the rage and the greater the evil created by his opponent, the stronger Ghost became. To what extent, it was simply incalculable.
In Ghost's memory, his most glorious moment since birth was undoubtedly when he took the initiative to confront the Great Evil Beast. Although he was defeated in a single encounter and knocked unconscious, when he next opened his eyes, he dazedly discovered the Great Evil Beast was gone. The Darkness that was supposed to devour the DC World had receded, and light and life remained the main theme of the DC World.
Although the vast majority of those who participated in that battle lost their memories of the Great Evil Beast due to the reboot of the DC World, Ghost himself was unaffected. He still remembered clearly.
But now, in a brief moment of inattention, two damned blockheads had smashed the Multiverse to pieces.
If he had returned any later, those guys in the Sphere of the Gods probably wouldn't have acted rashly, and perhaps the Multiverse would have had to undergo another reboot! God only knows how immense the losses would have been!
"You're both insane! As deities of a multiversal standing, you actually dare to fight within the Multiverse! It's pure madness! Did you really think no one could hold you accountable?!"
Ghost transformed into a streak of green light, shooting into the Multiverse and heading straight for the Main Universe, roaring with fury.
His extreme rage caused his strength to soar. As far as his eyes could see, the countless disaster-stricken worlds and the billions of dead lives made Ghost tremble with anger, his strength continuing to rise.
The current Ghost had likely raised his strength to its recent peak.
Doctor Manhattan had little reaction to Ghost's questioning. He just stared intently at Ghost, having apparently discovered that he was unable to see through Ghost's form of existence. This once again sparked his thirst for knowledge—this Ghost fellow was stained with the power of a being that transcended multiversal standing, and Doctor Manhattan was very eager to know what Ghost was and where his power came from.
"Ghost… why have you appeared at this time?" Du Wa stroked his chin, thinking that anyone who provoked Ghost in this state of rage would have a very hard time.
Where was Ghost supposed to be at this point in time?
It seemed he should be bickering with the New 52 Universe's Constantine, caught in a tug-of-war in the Mystical Realm, attempting to permanently seal Constantine there.
But it no longer mattered. The original story of the DC World was destined to be erased; it ceased to exist the moment Du Wa appeared, becoming completely unrecognizable. What's more, there was a guy like Doctor Manhattan, who was even more absurd than Flash, simultaneously traversing countless timelines across several generations, creating innumerable minute changes that caused the various details of the DC World to undergo seemingly insignificant evolutions.
Now, he had even come to blows with Du Wa, doing something he absolutely should not have done.
Arriving along with Ghost was the Phantom Stranger, one of the Trinity of Sin.
This gentleman in a fedora, the Phantom Stranger, was the one who represented "betrayal" in the Trinity of Sin. It was hard to say if he was a deity, but he was more mysterious than the vast majority of gods. He always appeared during major, pivotal events across various universes. This time, he had followed Ghost back to the Main Universe.
"I was only gone for a little while, how did Universe 0 get into such a mess… The negative impact of the Mystical Realm on us is too great; it severed our perception of the flow of time in Reality. If Pandora hadn't been in the New 52 Universe and forcibly opened a multiversal channel with Pandora's Box, I wouldn't have known a thing!"
The Phantom Stranger deciphered the changes in the Main Universe's timeline, a deep look of resignation appearing on his face.
This was too absurd. How did it turn into such a mess? How much time had even passed? The New 52 Universe hadn't even warmed the seat of the Main Universe before the Multiverse's center of gravity shifted, and Universe 0 swiftly returned to its position.
This was already abnormal. At that time, the three of them—the Phantom Stranger of betrayal, Pandora of curiosity, and The Question—who were primarily focused on managing the New 52 Universe, had already sensed that something was wrong.
After the Flashpoint event, the New 52 Universe was supposed to support the Multiverse as its substantive center. How could it have been reduced to an ordinary world for no reason?
Notably, the New 52 Universe had been generally stable. Because New 52 Darkseid had gone to Universe 3 and died as the Main Universe Darkseid at the hands of Thanoseid, it greatly accelerated the process of the New 52 Universe losing its position. Thanoseid had also seized New 52 Darkseid's divinity and divine rank, replacing New 52 Darkseid's crucial role as the Main Universe Darkseid in supporting the Multiverse, and had followed Du Wa to Universe 0.
"Du Wa… this fellow is the key deity who has greatly stimulated the evolution of the Multiverse. He accelerated the shift of the multiversal center. Both before and after his ascension, all the major events he created have, in a substantive sense, allowed Universe 0 to overwhelm the immensely important New 52 Universe from this reboot."
This had prevented the New 52 Universe's Justice League from ever forming. Normally, it would be New 52 Darkseid's large-scale invasion of Earth that would prompt Superman and the others to join forces for the first time in history, thereby establishing the Justice League.
During the battle against the army of Apokolips, the New 52 Flash and Green Lantern would have even mockingly ridiculed Batman for not having any superpowers.
But none of that would happen now. New 52 Darkseid had run off to Universe 3 early on to fight for the Anti-Life Equation, only to get himself killed in the process. This led to a terrible outcome: the Trinity of Sin had painstakingly managed New 52 Earth as the main world, but their efforts were all for naught.
Pandora was supposed to forcibly open Pandora's Box, creating a channel between New 52 Earth and Earth-3, which would lead to the Crime Syndicate's invasion of New 52 Earth and trigger a series of major events. None of that would happen either.
With no major events to influence the progress of the Multiverse, and with Earth-0 reclaiming its status as the Main Universe, the New 52 Universe, which didn't even have a Justice League, was rapidly becoming mediocre.
The Phantom Stranger looked at the current Main Universe and suddenly felt that perhaps it was a good thing they hadn't stayed in this world from the beginning. Their fate might have been even more tragic.
Didn't he see that the Main Universe's Justice League was completely helpless against Du Wa's series of actions? At most, they had received a bit of "special treatment" from Du Wa—Du Wa completely ignored them, allowing the Xenomorphs to clash with the Justice League, but never truly stood in opposition to the Justice League.
"The God of Xenomorphs is extremely cunning. You'd best be careful. He seems to be aware of Main Universe Superman's special nature, and every move he makes intentionally avoids provoking Main Universe Superman, never truly crossing his bottom line," the Phantom Stranger whispered, reminding Ghost after interpreting a large amount of information.
Ghost raised his voice, as if screaming, "That bastard, along with that blue quantum god, nearly dismembered the Main Universe! The Multiverse was on the verge of a passive reboot, and that's not going too far?"
"It is, it truly is. But don't forget, Superman doesn't know that foreign quantum deity at all right now, let alone the reason why Du Wa fought that guy so desperately… and, the Main Universe's Earth has been protected by Du Wa's power and is well preserved."
Reflected in the Phantom Stranger's vision was an azure planet. He saw a large group of Xenomorphs negotiating with Superman and the others, fiercely discussing things like protecting the world.
This was so evil. Just what kind of utterly evil villain would orchestrate a large-scale destruction of worlds, a slaughter of billions of lives, while manipulating his puppet subordinates to loudly discuss how to achieve peace?
Compared to Du Wa, Adrian, who had killed millions in the Watchmen Universe and claimed to have achieved world peace through this method, seemed downright merciful.
Ghost's form quietly grew a bit larger, a sign that he had become even more furious.
"Perhaps you can persuade Superman to stand against me? When this fellow, dressed more scantily than Zeus, was running around changing history, I didn't see any righteous individuals like you step up to stop him," Du Wa said sarcastically.
"That's a completely different matter from you stopping him with force! As a newly ascended deity, don't you realize how insane it is to fight within the Multiverse? Why are all the gods of your same standing in the Sphere of the Gods, instead of remaining in the Multiverse?" Ghost retorted angrily.
Doctor Manhattan once again extended a finger, pointing at Ghost, but after a thought, he lowered it again.
Du Wa looked at Doctor Manhattan with approval and said to Ghost, "You see, O great Spirit of Vengeance, I have already succeeded in stopping Doctor Manhattan from acting on his curiosity. You are too late. You failed to protect the Multiverse by nipping the crisis in the bud, and you failed to step up when disaster erupted. Arriving only after I've settled the crisis is not a good habit."
Ghost's gaze turned exceptionally dangerous, yet his form began to shrink.
The Phantom Stranger looked at Ghost with concern. After all, Ghost was The Presence's Spirit of Vengeance, not a true spirit of rage like Eclipso.
"Now, get out of the Multiverse. It would be best if you could get back to your own worlds," Ghost said coldly.
Doctor Manhattan thought for a moment. "My calculations tell me that the moment I leave the Multiverse, you will attack me in the Sphere of the Gods. It seems the high-level gods of this world don't mind using lies to achieve their ulterior motives."
Doctor Manhattan once again sank into a state of chaotic and dazed contemplation.
Du Wa suspected that this guy would sooner or later truly lose all ability to actively perceive the outside world, especially now that his curiosity had been forcibly suppressed by Du Wa's logic of action. At that point, Doctor Manhattan would probably become a thinking divine artifact, like an enhanced Mobius Chair, or a collection of higher-level energy with self-awareness, like the Phoenix Force and Goblin Force from Marvel.
However, that had little to do with Du Wa. He didn't yet have the ability to parasitize Doctor Manhattan. This guy wasn't like Quantum Batman, who had a tangible body. At least, Du Wa wouldn't be interested in Doctor Manhattan until he used Volthoom to secure the Emotional Spectrum.
"The priority of achieving vengeance far outweighs the process. When a logical conflict arises, Ghost can conceal part of the truth, so it doesn't count as lying."
Du Wa looked at Ghost, completely ignoring the punk Phantom Stranger, and had one of his clones truly leave the Multiverse.
This cooperative action momentarily astonished the beings who had been observing Du Wa's various actions, but they soon felt relieved, thinking this was the correct move.
"Even if Du Wa doesn't enter the Sphere of the Gods now, he will in the future."
"The Multiverse is the Monitor's territory. The Monitors have already appeared, but the Monitor himself is still nowhere to be seen, though he is definitely watching Du Wa."
"So… what does Ghost plan to do? Punish and humiliate Du Wa?"
Many deities became intensely interested.
Doctor Manhattan was still standing there in a daze. The sheer number of them, in the hundreds, made even Ghost hesitate to act rashly. He shot a fierce glare at these Doctor Manhattans, then immediately withdrew and followed one of Du Wa's selves into the Sphere of the Gods.
The moment Du Wa stepped into the Sphere of the Gods, he let out a gasp of amazement.
In this higher-level, vaster world, countless divine waves radiated, providing immense benefits to all sorts of high-tier beings.
"However, these indescribable waves are also subtly assimilating me, though it has no real effect… This is probably the insignificant trace left behind by the countless contests between The Presence and The Great Darkness."
Du Wa observed the Sphere of the Gods with great enthusiasm, feeling like his eyes had been opened.
The Presence's loyal servant, Ghost, charged into the Sphere of the Gods right behind him.
The two of them stood amidst the endless divine waves.
"Did you think you could escape my attack just by throwing out a clone? You underestimate me. As a newly ascended deity, you seem to know a lot, but in reality, you don't understand me at all."
A cruel and savage expression appeared on Ghost's face.
Don't assume that just because Ghost was created by The Presence, he would be holy and charitable. On the contrary, this guy's style was extremely harsh and brutal; he was a god who existed for slaughter and vengeance.
When powerful, Ghost was confident enough to lead the charge and single-handedly challenge the Great Evil Beast, and he could instantly kill a deity like Darkseid. When weak, he could be creatively beaten down by mortal superheroes.
Now, Ghost was certain he was incomparably powerful, possessing multiversal combat power. Slaying a newly ascended, and suspected weakest, multiversal deity should be a simple matter.
"It would be very difficult for other gods to deal with you. It's easy to defeat you, but hard to kill you. But I'm different… Even if I only kill one of your conceptual clones, it means I can kill all of your concepts!"
A terrifying power erupted from Ghost's body, a power so unique that it couldn't even be called divine power.
"Judgment!!"
