Chapter 245: Why Won't You Die?
Judgment was indeed Ghost's signature ability. It could be said to be the exclusive ultimate attack of a Spirit of Vengeance, a means of using power from a higher being to ascertain responsibility for the evolution of reality.
This was just like the Spirits of Vengeance over in the Marvel universe, including Ghost Rider. They used judgment as their strongest trump card to pass judgment upon the wicked.
Du Wa watched Ghost's energetic performance with great interest. This Spirit of Vengeance was displaying an unusually frenzied mania.
Mysterious chains continuously emerged from Ghost's body. This was a power that the current Du Wa could not decipher, a supreme order originating from The Presence, which, in terms of its tier and level, far surpassed any multiversal god.
But then again, Ghost didn't have the ability to unleash the true power of this thing. Otherwise, wouldn't he be able to directly pass judgment on the likes of Lucifer? Lucifer was a fallen angel. In terms of crimes alone, he had killed an unknowable number of people and gods and committed an unknowable number of evil deeds. Theoretically, he could be judged.
But it was obvious that Ghost's judgment was utterly useless against a being like Lucifer, one of the strongest existences beneath The Presence and The Great Darkness.
At this moment, Ghost firmly believed that with the power of Judgment, he could instantly obliterate Du Wa.
"Order is eternal. All who destroy order and give rise to evil must pay the price with their lives. My duty is to judge a lawless villain like you."
Ghost reached out and grasped the ethereal chains of order, tangibly seizing a supreme avatar that was impossible to describe with words. It was a manifestation of the Omniverse's rules, an extension of an unanalyzable higher power, now being used by Ghost as a weapon, hurled toward Du Wa.
It was unavoidable.
Before Ghost had made his move, Du Wa had a chance to stop his act of judgment. But once Ghost began the judgment, Du Wa discovered that he had been locked onto by something in the unseen. As long as he was within the DC World, there was no escape.
"Is this a power that transcends the multiverse? Truly remarkable. I can't even understand how it's operated, or how this power appeared on you."
Du Wa could only tell that Ghost was a receiver and transmitter for this power.
He figured it was the same for the Spirits of Vengeance over in Marvel. There was a whole group of them over there, scattered throughout the multiverse, countless in number. Their authority of judgment also originated from Marvel's God.
"To be able to skip a bunch of fledglings and directly face the peak of the Spirits of Vengeance is, in a way, a rare experience," Du Wa smiled, appearing unconcerned in such a situation.
The entire Domain of the Gods seemed to fall silent. The various gods remained quiet, as if afraid of being targeted by the rampaging Ghost and wiped out in one go.
Ghost had been repeatedly and brutally beaten in various major events but was simply unkillable. The gods, however, were not. Aside from a select few, the rest could die. No one was willing to take a judgment attack from an enraged Ghost head-on.
But Du Wa dared to.
"Du Wa has most likely overestimated himself. Just because he fought an unknown quantum god and didn't fall into a clear disadvantage, he thinks he can handle a Ghost driven mad with rage."
"I admit Du Wa's strength is much greater than I anticipated. At least his method of manipulating a large number of Xenomorphs as his temporary clones, barely achieving the effect of creating a host of powerful clones for battle, was indeed unexpected. In the Domain of the Gods, unless one of the few from Heaven or Hell intervenes, no one could be certain of killing Du Wa. But Ghost's ability is the perfect counter to this kind of clone technique."
"A Concept God... Looking across all three generations, you can't even find a handful of them. Power-based gods are the eternal mainstream. But a clone of a Concept God is also the main body of that Concept God. All of it falls within the scope of Ghost's judgment."
Judging one Du Wa was equivalent to judging all Du Was. This was Ghost's judgment. Before Du Wa could surpass or match the source being of the power of Judgment, there was no way to evade it.
This was completely different from a guy like Darkseid. There are many Darkseids. If one Darkseid were judged and killed by Ghost, the Darkseids in other universes would be completely unaffected.
In fact, Ghost would have to find a way to revive the dead Darkseid, because Darkseid himself was a part of the multiverse's evil, a part of the multiversal structure.
But Du Wa, after all, was not Darkseid, much less had he become a part of the structure of the DC World!
"Die!!"
Ghost roared. From his eyes, mouth, nostrils, and ears, a white light of unknown meaning, yet filled with a sacred aura, poured out.
The power of Judgment locked onto Du Wa and finally descended, sealing off all of his escape routes and even temporarily isolating countless divine waves.
Boom!
Du Wa was struck, instantly devoured by the power of Judgment. The terrifying light formed a sphere and began to expand wildly. Not only that, but it also grew countless streams of light, which looked as if they were about to surge into the Domain of the Gods to precisely locate every single Xenomorph.
"It's just as I thought. A Concept God is strong in their concept. When they encounter someone like Ghost, they will also die on a conceptual level. If it were one of The Endless, a Concept God of their caliber could probably only passively resist the judgment of an enraged Ghost, let alone a Concept God like Du Wa, who was built upon a specific race?"
"Let's see how long this guy can last. Hehe, I remember Dream of The Endless once went to block Apokolips to stop Darkseid and his ilk from interfering with the multiverse. Now this is interesting. Is Dream going to deal with Ghost now?"
"I hold a different opinion. Du Wa came to the Domain of the Gods voluntarily. No matter how arrogant or conceited he is, he must have read the information within the multiverse about Ghost. It's impossible for him to be completely ignorant of Ghost's abilities. Why would he be so reckless?"
"He will be fine. Ghost is in for trouble."
Finally, Dream said this to the other members of The Endless.
Of the members present, besides Destiny, who had gone to Destiny's Garden, all the others were there. Dream said, "Many of you laughed at me, saying my attempt to recruit Du Wa to join the family was fanciful. You will see with your own eyes that I was right. Du Wa is not just a newly advanced multiversal god. The secret about him is even more special than his identity as a multiversal god."
"Hmph, at a time like this, what is there to hide? I fail to see how a Concept God who relies on a specific race would have the ability to stand on par with Concept Gods like us. You always did enjoy your fanciful adventures, both in our native world and after entering this huge world," Despair uttered a sigh. If an ordinary person were here, that simple sigh would have instantly caused their negative emotions to be infinitely amplified, ultimately creating the urge to commit suicide.
"What if Du Wa wasn't a concept from the very beginning, but an ordinary Earthling?" Dream said coldly.
"What?"
"That's impossible. Something like that can't happen. How could a mere ordinary human become a Concept God? And advance all the way to a multiversal standing, on par with us Concept Gods who are personifications of personality and states??"
"It's true. When I infiltrated Du Wa's dream realm, I saw the dreams of many Xenomorphs and glimpsed a major secret. I indirectly witnessed a few fragmented images of Du Wa from his time as an ordinary human. Although there were only a few fragments, Du Wa, who was a Cosmic Celestial at the time, did a good job of blocking my observation with his powerful consciousness cluster ability. But I did see it."
Dream looked at Delirium and the others, speaking slowly, "I don't know how he did it, but he truly does come from an ordinary Earthling background."
"I observed the multiverse and saw no growth trajectory for Du Wa. If he progressed from an ordinary human to a multiversal Concept God, how could he possibly have hidden his weaker period so well? Without leaving any trace in time, history, or the perception of countless lives?" Delirium's face was a mask of ridicule; she had a paranoid Madness in her very bones.
"I can tell you that," Death said faintly. "Because Du Wa, like us, is not a native of this world. He is an outsider, from a world that seems to be much larger than our native world. But I don't think it can compare to this world."
The DC World was far too vast. Death had already confirmed that even now, though her strength had already ascended to a high tier of multiversal standing, it was still increasing wildly. This amplification startled even Death, making her suspect that before long, she would naturally achieve a standing above multiversal!
What did this mean? It meant that the DC World, which lacked a supreme god of the death aspect, was on a scale that truly exceeded the multiverse, and was even higher!
Death was already planning to take a trip to the Source Wall in a while to look for a breakthrough. Perhaps she had the ability to go Outside the Source Wall and explore that endlessly deep and vast, mysterious outer world.
And it was highly likely she would succeed. As long as her own strength was great enough and her standing was higher, the Source Wall would not be an obstacle, but would be like something made of paper.
So, if one were to also include the world Outside the Wall, this world was far too vast, unbelievably so. The being who created this world was even more unfathomable.
But for Du Wa to come from a world that could rival this one? Just the thought of it seemed impractical, completely unrealistic.
Perhaps Du Wa had no idea how enormous this world was, and simply assumed the World Within the Wall was the world in its entirety, taking the Source Wall to be the world's edge?
But even so, a strange world comparable to the World Within the Wall was still somewhat unbelievable. Most likely, Du Wa was intentionally exaggerating his native world. It couldn't be as huge as this one, nor could it possess such a long history, so many gods, various high-level artifacts and super energy, and a large number of unplumbed secrets, Death thought.
What Dream had seen was also too little, and at most, it was only the scope of the native world that a single-universe-level Du Wa had come into contact with. It was far from sufficient evidence to prove that Du Wa's native world could rival the DC World.
"If that's really the case, then my impression of him will be very good. His style is also to my taste. A Concept God should firmly grasp everything within their concept's scope," Destruction, who rarely spoke, suddenly chimed in.
Destruction was a god born to bring great destruction to all things. Logically, he should be terrifyingly strong, standing in opposition to all things. How strong would such a Concept God be? The Anti-Life Equation and similar things were, in a sense, part of Destruction's scope.
But the embarrassing thing was, Death was of a higher order than Destruction. This resulted in Destruction being a transitional state for all things, while Death was the final destination for all things.
This led to DC's Destruction being far inferior to Marvel's Oblivion, who was the counterpart to the sum total of Death, Eternity, Infinity, and Galactus.
The other family members said no more, digesting this news.
Also an outsider? Considering Du Wa was the one who first triggered the Flashpoint event, it meant Du Wa had entered the DC World before them, and he may very well have taken full advantage of their arrival for some kind of scheming.
What a troublesome fellow. A Concept God who seemed so transparent at first glance was actually this much trouble?
"This guy is like a thick sandwich. You peel back one layer, and there's another one underneath. Who knows how many layers you have to open to see his true face," Delirium felt she wasn't so delirious anymore.
"However, Du Wa refused my invitation. He has other plans. Perhaps there are unresolved issues in his native world. I will try to invite him a third time, but I must choose a suitable opportunity, one where he can no longer refuse me. Preferably when he is in a predicament and needs the help of The Endless."
Dream's eyes sparkled with wisdom. "To put it bluntly, we merged the entire Vertigo Universe into this vast world. If Du Wa's native world is also truly immense, what if we could be like Du Wa, and invest a part of ourselves into that world through him..."
Instantly, everyone present, except for Death who could not see her own upper limit, felt their hearts pound. Who would refuse an opportunity to constantly raise their standing? The key for Concept Gods like them was that they didn't need to scheme and toil like Du Wa. They just needed to find a suitable world, join it, and they could level up just by lying there quietly.
Dream looked at their greedy expressions and for a moment didn't know what to say. He seriously suspected that his previously poor relationship with Delirium and the others might have been because he hadn't found the right approach.
"Look, the judgment is over. The result will be interesting," Death suddenly said, pointing to a certain spot in the Domain of the Gods.
The present members of the family immediately looked over.
"I want to see Du Wa beat up Ghost and then take me—us—back to his native world! On the condition that Du Wa's native world is truly immense. Even if it's just a little smaller than this place, that would be fine!" Delirium immediately became delirious again.
