Chapter 9 - 8

At dinner, the team is having dinner with Sara.

Sara: I honestly don't remember anything. I brought down a missile and I was knocked into the wormhole.....I....I don't know how I survived...

Alex: Surviving a nuclear explosion?

Trisha: That is literally amazing, Sara...

Charles: You're telling you don't remember anything about the diety that was coming through?

Josh: Whoa, wait, diety? Like a god?

Sara nods.

Sara: I honestly don't.....I wish I could remember more, but it's all just...blurry....even with my telepathy. I just can't remember.

Eva: Hey, Mom....it's okay.

Eva puts her hand on Sara's.

Eva: Don't push yourself.....just...take your time.

Sara sighs.

Sara: Anyway, I really don't want to talk about this right now. I want to hear about all you guys. Like how'd my husband find you all?

James: Our A.I. and the Chronicle.

Sara: What?

Charles: The Chronicle is a machine that can locate any Enhuman on the planet....

Sara: Oh, I see....and you guys have an A.I.?

James: Yes. V.O.X., introduce yourself to my mom.

V.O.X.: Hello, Mrs. Parker.

Sara: Oh, my. Artificial intelligence. The past twenty years has become so advanced.

Alex: There's also a lot of things.....like Starbucks becoming more popular. 4K HD TV's. 3D Movie theaters.

Trisha: Avatar the Last Airbender.

Josh: James Cameron's Avatar movie.

Alex: The MCU.

Josh: Playstation 4.

Josh: Tupac died.

Alex: Michael Jackson died.

Sara: Really? I love Michael Jackson.

Alex: He had a thing for little boys, though.

Trisha: 9\11.

Alex: That's not a good thing to tell her about.

Trisha: Just saying.

Jessica: Neither is telling her about musicians dying.

Josh: We also had a black president at one point.

Trisha: We have a female president, though.

Sara: Wait, seriously?

Maria: Yep, the first female president.

John: Guy, guys. One at a time. Look, Sara, tomorrow, I can show you around New York. Just catch you up with the world....

Sara: Like a date?

John: Huh. Surprised you know that word.

Sara: Well, I'm psychic....it's a word the young adults are saying now.

Later on night, Sara is resting in bed, before James and Eva walk in.

James: Are you comfortable?

Sara: Yes, I am. Thank you, James.

James: Of course.

Eva: You never guessed what our powers were, by the way.

Sara: I didn't need to. I know my children...and from what I've seen, you two have become great powerful Enhumans. I'm proud of both of you for continuing the Supers.

James and Eva smile, before John walks in, carrying a cellphone.

John: Hey, guys....I think we should let your mom sleep.

Eva: Okay...

James and Eva leave, before John walks up to Sara.

Sara: Hey, your kids were making sure I'm comfortable.

John: I know it's just....I don't want a lot piled on you all at once you know.

Sara smiles.

Sara: I'm glad to see you, John.

John: Get some sleep, baby.

John kisses Sara, before he hands Sara the cellphone. Sara curiously inspects the phone.

Sara: What is this? Is this like a Super device? A GPS?

John: It's an android.

Sara: Oh...it talks. Like V.O.X.?

John: No, no...it's just a phone...it's a portable phone...people don't really use home phones anymore.

Sara: Oh....

John: Also, there's a thing called wi-fi you have to connect the—

Sara: Wi-fi? Is that the new Supers secret code?

John: No, it's...uh...it's the internet....You know, I'll just explain all this tomorrow.

In Ireland, the Eagle flies just as The Owl, Thermo, Phantom and Power Surge walk out of the exiting hatch of the jet with Thermo carrying the alien fragments and Power Surge carrying a link pole. Phantom is carrying a metal crate.

Power Surge: So remind me again, why the hell are we hiding these fragments all the way out here in middle of freaking Ireland?

The Owl: One day, when I was scouting; I once saved a man from leaping out onto the river bank. During the save, I found these abandoned ruins.

The team walk to abandoned ruins where a generator lies.

Neon Crane: What the?

The Owl: Figured if the Purifiers or anyone else worse were to attack, this place would be our 2nd base of operations. Where we store valuable stuff. It's over here...Josh, set up the antenna.

Power Surge and Thermo set up the antenna while Phantom puts down the crate as the Owl places the fragments in the crate.

The Owl: Excellent.

The Owl turns to the antenna, then walks over to the generator before pressing a few buttons. The Owl then turns to Thermo.

The Owl: Alex, fly away from the ruins and throw a fireball at it.

Thermo: What? While you're inside?

The Owl: Yes, I want to test something out.

Thermo bursts into his flame form and flies away from the ruins, landing right outside from it.

Thermo: Okay, Professor McGregor. I'm right outside the ruins.

The Owl: Stand by....okay, go ahead, Alex.

Thermo throws a fireball at the ruins, hitting the wall next to Power Surge, Phantom and Neon Crane.

Neon Crane: Jesus!

Power Surge: Shit!

The three young adults turn to the Owl.

The Owl: Damn it.

Power Surge: What the hell are you trying to do, Professor?

The Owl: Just making sure that no one gets in while we're gone.

The Owl powers up the generator.

The Owl: Okay! Alex, try again!

Thermo shrugs before he throws a fireball at the ruins, this time the fireball hits a force field.

The Owl: Success!

The Owl stands up.

The Owl: Okay, the force field is up. It'll recognize our DNA signature and allow only Super members to enter within the force field. Until then, we have to make sure that no one else, human or Enhuman has access to these fragments.

In New York, John and Sara are walking through the city, taking tours to Brooklyn, Time Square, the top of the Empire State Buidling, Ferries to Liberty Island. After their tour, John and Sara are walking through Central Park.

Sara: So, let me get this straight; this is all the crazy shit that's happened since I've been gone in the last twenty years; the time you were recruiting Trisha, Adrian broke out and almost destroy this city with a giant meteor base. There was a military organization that sought to destroy Enhumanity, but you stopped them and then three years ago, at the time you recruited Arianna's son, Alex, you and Adrian worked together with a man who was a sea dweller, whose brother flooded half the world?

John: I know, it's a lot.

Sara: So, where's Adrian now?

John: He's a fugitive. He and his daughter.

Sara: Scarlett?

John: You remember her?

Sara: She was only a child when I last saw her.

John: Yeah, well, Adrian's been busy recruiting for this Enhuman war.....

Sara smiles.

Sara: It seems like you've built a strong team while I've been gone.....

Sara looks down.

John: What?

Sara: What happened to Dragonov?

John sighs.

John: I was hoping you wouldn't ask that. I...I got so angry....I...I killed him.

Sara's eyes widened at hearing this.

Sara: John....

John: I should've had more self control.....Sara, I thought you were gone....I haven't killed another person since. Human or Enhuman.

John looks down, but then shakes his head and looks up.

John: So, despite all that, what do you think?

Sara: Well, I'm finding that this "texting" thing is a bit of an addiction. What is an emoji?

John: Uh....well, it's kind of hard to explain that. Trisha, Josh, Jessica and Alex would know more about that.

Sara looks through her phone, then frowns.

John: What?

On her phone, Sara shows John of the recent Purifier attack on Exodus labs, with Daniels stating the threat of Enhumans and the need for the cure.

Sara: Wait, cure? John, they've made a cure for Enhumans.

John: Yeah...and if the President approves, Enhumanity, all of us, Supers and Purifiers, will be forced to take it....Adrian has been giving the President a reason to approve of this cure.

Sara: My god....have things gotten so bad that people want to cure us?

John: Don't worry. We'll find someway to make sure it doesn't come to that.....You know what? This calls for celebration. Your return. Let's host a party at Parker Tower. Tonight.

Sara laughs.

John: What?

Sara: John....I've been gone for twenty years. Don't you think people are going to ask questions on what's happened to me?

John: I'll just tell the truth.

Sara's eyes widen.

Sara: What?

John: Yeah. That one of Parker Industries private planes went down and you were assumed dead.

Sara raises an eyebrow.

John: V.O.X. is good at fabricating lies for the public.

Sara: Well....if you think, we should have a party then let's do it.

John: Yeah?

Sara: Yeah...

John laughs, then kisses Sara, who then looks around at the civilians around them.

John: What?

Sara: All these civilians.....there all thinking about so much.....money....food....rent payments.....pornhub.

John: Well, that is too a thing that the internet has provided.

Sara laughs. Later that night, a party is hosted at Parker Tower, celebrating Sara's return. John, Sara, Josh, Trisha, James, Eva, Maria, Alex and Jessica are socializing with the guests. Eventually, Eva sits in the corner and looks around, before James walks up to her.

James: Hey, you okay?

Eva: Yeah....

James: Eva?

Eva: James?

James: As the big brother, I can tell something is bothering you.

Eva sighs.

Eva: It's just we should be celebrating Mom's return privately, not with a party of guests.

James: Yeah, I know what you mean, though. This should be a private family thing, not a public thing.

James: Still, though...it's nice to see Mom getting around and talking.

James and Eva look at Sara smiling and talking to the guests, before she looks back at her children and waves. Later on, Joseph and Alex walk off to have a brief talk.

Alex: So, what are you thinking about, man?

Josh: Well, of course, Trisha and I definitely don't want to stay in the Tower for the rest of our lives. She's talking about probably moving back to Owego.

Alex: Eesh...you know if you did that, you'd be dealing with her cop of a sister bossing you around, right?

Josh: Yeah, but that's the only downside....What about you and Jess?

Alex: Me and her are talking about going to France. Helping out her Mom and little sister for a while. I mean, she's sending her family money every month....just trying to think of how I'm going to explain that to my Dad.

Josh: You think he'd agree with what you and Jessica want?

Alex shrugs.

Alex: Yeah, well...Mom would've told me to follow my heart.

Josh nods in understanding. Meanwhile, Trisha walks up to Maria.

Trisha: Enjoying the party?

Maria: Two parties in one week. First your wedding, now this party. So, according to Sara, she was trapped in another planet or something?

Trisha: Something like that.

Maria: And Kala, who's been in the labs asleep, touched a fragment from this other planet?

Trisha: Right.

Maria: Hmm....

Trisha sighs.

Maria: I'm not giving you shit, but I just....Well, if she wakes up, what should we do?

Trisha: Try to....try to talk to her. See, what she knows. She definitely knows something about what happened with Sara coming back.

Maria sighs.

Maria: Well, if she does, you're going to need some backup.

Trisha: What are you talking about?

Maria: Oh, well, I'm technically on paid leave and while I'm on paid leave, I'm going to make sure that my little Enhuman sister doesn't get herself into a heep of trouble.

Trisha: And how will you do that?

Maria: Well, by training in your grid...

Trisha: Uh...the Grid's for Enhumans.

Maria: I know....but I got something that can give me an edge.

Trisha: Huh?

Jessica is serving drinks at the bar just as Sara approaches the bar.

Jessica: Hello, Mademoiselle Parker.

Sara: (in French) Hello, Mademoiselle Drakos.

Jessica smiles.

Jessica: (in English) You speak French?

Sara: Indeed. John and I took a trip to Paris in 1994 and studied the language for years.

Jessica: Ohh....

Sara: Also, I had to apologize for the...uh...kick to the jaw.

Jessica: Oh, please. Tis not the first time I've been kicked in the jaw. It's not often I get kicked by a pretty woman. Tis water under the bridge. So, what can I serve you?

Sara: Hmm...how about a Pastis?

Jessica: Did you use your telepathy to discover a French drink?

Sara: No, I just happened to remember good French drinks.

Jessica fills the glass up and raises it to Sara, clinking with hers.

Jessica: To your return.

Sara: To my return.

In the tech labs, Charles is presenting to Trisha, advanced weaponry as far as electric stun pellets, grapple launchers, night vision goggles and a staff.

Charles: Your sister had me make all of this for her in accommodation of her staying with us.

Trisha turns to Maria, who shrugs.

Trisha: Maria...

Maria: Hey, if this is something big, you're gonna need all the help you got. I may not be an Enhuman, but I know how to handle myself.

Charles: And we will see that tomorrow, Mrs. Campbell. John and I will need to see both you and Sara operate in the Grid...especially with you being the only human in the group.

As the party dies down, John sits on the couch looking out in the sky on the rooftop just as Sara walks out and approaches John.

Sara: You know I figured I'd find you out here.

John turns and smiles.

John: How so?

Sara: This was always your thinking spot.

John: Yeah, it is....

John sighs.

John: I'm sorry.

Sara: John, no need to apologize. Are you okay?

John: Yeah, it's just...I'm trying to make sense of all this. Finding you again....after twenty years.

Sara: Maybe it's fate, John. Written in the stars up there.

John scoffs.

Sara: Can I tell you something?

Sara leans in and whispers.

Sara: This is the most excited I've ever seen you since our night in Dubai.

John laughs.

John: What? When we had our little wild night with bad guys and terrorist that ended very wildly.

Sara: Just saying.

John: What was it? 1992?

Sara swats at John's shoulder.

Sara: 91. I am psychic, you know? Remember when we broke the bed in that hotel?

John and Sara laugh.

John: Jesus. How could I forget? Costs me 27,000 dollars to replace it. The Dubai don't screw around.

Sara: Well, you only have yourself to blame. I didn't an Enhuman with superhuman strength could have sex that long.

John praises himself as Sara laughs. John then twists his lips.

John: You know, sometimes I wished I would've went out there to look for you. If I had known—

Sara touches John's hand.

Sara: It's okay, John. I'm here now. That's all that matters.

John and Sara smile, before later on, in John's bedroom, the two get very intimate, eventually undressing and making love in the Parker bedroom. In London, the news broadcasts Sara's return as Tombs looks on with interest.

Tombs: Now, there's a face I haven't seen in a long time.

Ravage: And who's this bitch?

Scarlett: Sara Parker. Jinx of the Supers. She's a telepath.

Tombs: John's wife. She was assumed dead after a mission in Afghanistan in 1996. I wonder what she's doing back.

Xiang: Should we keep an eye on her.

Tombs: For now, let's let John have fun with his wife....I'm sure his children are very happy to have their mother back.
