Chapter 27 - Chapter 17 – Strategic Response Meeting: One Month of Silence

Secretary Wen's voice echoed crisply through the quiet meeting room, detailing each future event with precision. The atmosphere had shifted—tense, focused. Everyone's eyes were on the pages or the speaker.

Halfway through the briefing, Colonel Long Zixuan lifted his teacup, took a sip, and then placed it down deliberately. His deep voice cut through the room.

"If this timeline is as accurate as it seems, when do you plan to escalate this to the government or military intelligence channels? Surely this kind of information can't be kept internal forever."

The room fell silent. Even the baby bunny in Han Yue's lap paused nibbling, as if sensing the tension.

All eyes turned toward Long Yi, who leaned back slightly in his leather chair, fingers interlaced.

"Uncle," he began steadily, "I understand the responsibility, and I know that morally, this should be reported immediately. But the first month—this one—we will keep it to ourselves."

He paused, meeting the Colonel's eyes.

"This month is our only window of opportunity to liquidate assets, buy time, build our networks, hoard supplies, and place our people. Once the second month hits and this gets out—chaos will follow. We'll be dealing with scrambling officials, collapsing markets, and every opportunist with a badge or a title."

He continued, tone grave.

"Yes, it's selfish. But I'm choosing survival. Our survival. Han Yue's survival."

At that, his gaze swept across the table, finally landing on Han Yue, who was gently spoon-feeding her baby bunny a strawberry slice. Noticing his gaze, she blinked up innocently and offered a soft, cheek-filled "Hmm?"

Long Yi cracked the barest of smiles, before looking back at the rest.

"Her identity stays within this room. It will never leave it. Not now, not ever. Even after the world changes, no one speaks of her rebirth unless she says otherwise."

He turned his gaze to each individual, one by one. Colonel Long. Secretary Wen. The shadow guard leaders. The two personal secretaries seated beside him. Everyone in the room sat straighter under his stare.

And then, almost in unison—

"Understood."

No one hesitated.

Colonel Long was silent for a long moment. His calloused fingers tapped the polished wood of the meeting table as he considered Long Yi's words. Then, he slowly nodded.

"Human nature is indeed the most dangerous force. I can already imagine how things would spiral if this list or Miss Han Yue's identity were leaked too early. You're right. The cost of being unprepared... could be our lives."

He exhaled slowly.

"I support your decision. The first month will be ours. On the second, we brief the necessary channels—but only what they need to know."

Han Yue, nibbling on her cheesecake, smiled as she watched the Colonel. "Wow," she whispered, "he's such a good person…"

Then she broke off a small piece of lettuce and passed it to her baby bunny, who accepted it with both paws and began munching contentedly on the table beside her. Several hardened Shadow Guard leaders blinked at the adorable sight before schooling their expressions back to serious.

The meeting resumed.

As the tension began to settle, Secretary Wen tapped the thick binder in front of him. The sound echoed crisply in the quiet room.

"Everyone, turn to Page 5. This is the core of our logistics. Survival will not be determined by ideology, but by inventory."

The rustle of pages filled the room. Everyone leaned in.

Han Yue finally set down her cheesecake fork and wiped her fingers clean. Even she felt a slight sense of solemnity.

Secretary Wen continued:

"This document outlines essential categories for the next 30 days of silent preparation. Some of these may seem excessive now, but six months later, they'll determine who lives and who dies."

He paused.

"We will divide responsibilities and procurement later. For now, understand the full scope."

Secretary Wen stood at the front of the room, clicking the remote once more as the projector blinked onto the final slide—a page marked with a crisp header: "Master Survival Stockpile Document – Secured Edition v1.0."

With a composed tone, he addressed the room, "All categories have now been fully compiled—foods, medicine, weapons, vehicles, livestock, seeds, textiles, knowledge banks, luxury goods, and backup digital libraries. This document is now our core reference. Distribution of responsibilities and assignments will begin immediately after we finalize operational zones and clearance protocols."

He gave a respectful bow of the head. "This concludes the presentation overview. Everyone here will receive a personal encrypted copy shortly."

Han Yue, nibbling on the edge of a chocolate-filled cookie while her rabbit munched quietly beside her, glanced toward Long Yi with clear eyes full of calm purpose. She could feel it—this was only the beginning.

Long Yi met her gaze and gave a faint, sharp nod.

"Then let's begin phase one."
