Chapter 75 - Chapter 65: Rumors, Red Flags, and Fiance Fallout

Part 1:

Long Yi finally came home after a long day's work. After showering and changing into comfy clothes, he headed down to eat dinner with Han Yue, Grandpa Long, Zhihan, and Rose. During dinner, Long Yi kept placing food on Han Yue's plate, prompting her to casually ask:

"Did you really have a fiancée?"

The entire table froze. Grandpa Long slammed his chopsticks on the table and shouted, "Stinky boy! How dare you cuckold my future granddaughter-in-law!"

Long Yi, first shocked, turned cold. "Where did you hear that from?"

Han Yue, clearly teasing, grinned and said, "Ohhh, she messaged me saying to stay away from her fiancé." Then she casually resumed eating.

Grandpa Long sighed in relief. "Oh, it's a troll, phew." But he looked thoughtful, as if remembering something. "Feels like some melons are about to bloom," he muttered.

Long Yi sighed. "Let's eat first. I'll explain later. But I'll be clear—I don't have a fiancée."

Han Yue noticed his irritation and gently placed food on his plate with a smile. Long Yi looked at her, saw her teasing expression, and sighed again before eating the food she gave him. Grandpa Long grumbled, "Hmph. I feel full just watching the dog food."

After dinner, Long Yi, Grandpa Long, and Han Yue moved to the study. Grandpa sipped tea while Han Yue munched on cookies, both eyeing Long Yi eagerly. He rubbed his temples.

"I don't have a fiancée," Long Yi repeated. "A long time ago, a crazy woman declared she wanted to marry me and demanded her family propose a marriage alliance. My second uncle entertained it while I was studying abroad. I never agreed, and it died off."

Grandpa Long suddenly spat out his tea. "Ah! That lunatic from the Li family? She saw Xiao Yi once at a party and decided she had to marry him. Her family even came to me asking for a dowry, estates, and shares. I drove them away!"

He laughed while recounting the story to Han Yue. "They told me, 'My daughter wants to marry your grandson. Let's finalize the date.' I told them to scram and take their lunatic with them."

Long Yi added, "She even followed me abroad and enrolled in my school, announcing we were engaged. I got so fed up, I filed a restraining order. It was served publicly at the school. She disappeared after that."

Han Yue and Grandpa Long were speechless.

"Where did she message you?" Long Yi asked.

"Oh, on my Weibo," Han Yue replied, not thinking much of it. "Probably saw those candid night market photos."

Long Yi took her phone and checked the inbox. Sure enough, the lunatic had used her verified account to send a possessive message. But what made Long Yi's ears turn red was Han Yue's reply:

"No. I want to stick to him tonight. 😳"

He silently took a screenshot and sent it to his own phone before handing hers back.

Grandpa Long and Han Yue noticed his dazed look. Then Han Yue suddenly remembered what she wrote and panicked. "Don't! It's a misunderstanding! I only said that to anger her!"

Grandpa Long sneakily took Han Yue's phone and read it.

"Hahahahahahahhahah" Grandpa Long howled. "I'm leaving—I can't eat any more dog food!"

As he exited, Long Yi still stared at Han Yue while she made flustered excuses. He pulled her into a hug and whispered, "It's okay. I'm willing."

Han Yue turned red and growled in embarrassment, then laughed. They both laughed, then settled down on the sofa with tea.

Long Yi warned, "Just be careful of that lunatic. Don't believe anything she says—who knows what she'll do next."

Han Yue nodded, and they ended the conversation there.

Part 2:

Meanwhile, at Commander Long's side, he was in a video call meeting with Secretary Wen, reviewing the files just sent.

Commander Long flipped through the documents. "So Han Yue witnessed this in her past life? These are statements from workers in that private laboratory and the rumors come from Base J?"

Secretary Wen nodded. "Yes. She said the headline today triggered her memory. It didn't mention names but hinted at 'Li' and 'Governor.' That made her recall everything and report it."

Commander Long closed the folder with a grin. "We'll keep an eye on Grandpa He's family. As for her statement, I'll just report it as 'rumors from Base J citizens.' The logs and seals from the Li family and Governor Shide—those will be forwarded to General Wang. Let him handle the messy work."

He leaned back. "But don't expect this to wrap up quickly. General Wang will likely report to the president, and once the president orders a secret investigation, the real hunt begins."

Secretary Wen nodded. "Understood. We've already heightened surveillance and security ever since that lunatic from the Li family exposed our training site."

Commander Long nodded again. "Alright. I'll handle the next steps."

The call ended.

The next day, Han Yue woke up around noon. She lazed around in bed while her little babies—the bunny, the two cats, and little Snowball—were all tumbling and playing across the blanket. A knock came at the door, followed by a maid's gentle voice.

"Young Miss Yue, lunch is being served. Master Long Yi would like to ask if you'll be joining them?"

Han Yue sat up, stretching lazily. "Okay, in a minute," she replied.

After a quick wash-up, she was dressed casually in a loose shirt and shorts, feeling relaxed today. Her furry babies followed her down the stairs, eager for snacks as much as she was.

As she entered the dining area, she heard Grandpa Long's loud, hearty laugh echoing through the room.

"Sigh! You kids be careful! There's a lunatic stalker out there who's obsessed with Xiao Yi… and also obsessed with our Little Yue! Make sure you don't fall for any traps or schemes, you hear me?!"

The two kids, Zhihan and Rose, nodded vigorously.

"Don't worry, Grandpa! We'll be extra careful!" they chorused.

Han Yue's mouth twitched as she walked over and sat down to join them for lunch. Just as she picked up her chopsticks, her phone buzzed.

Ding.

"Hmm?" She glanced at the screen—another message from Li Meixue.

Last warning. Stay away from my fiancé!!!!!!

Han Yue sneered and locked the screen. Still playing this game, huh? she thought, choosing to ignore it—for now—and instead focus on her delicious meal.

After eating, she leaned over to Long Yi and whispered, "Let's go to your office. I have something to ask."

Long Yi raised an eyebrow but nodded. "Alright."

Once inside his private office, Han Yue pointed to the couch. "Sit down!"

She looked very excited. Long Yi blinked but obeyed quietly, sensing some sort of mischief brewing.

To his complete surprise, Han Yue suddenly plopped down onto his lap.

His ears turned visibly red, but his arms instinctively wrapped around her waist.

Then, she pulled out her phone with a grin. "Long Yi, your stalker sent me another warning today. So I've decided… I'm going to post a selfie. Hehe~ Want to join?"

She turned her head toward him, their faces just inches apart. Long Yi's mind blanked for a second.

"So close…" he thought, before nodding with a soft smile. "Okay. Take the photo."

Han Yue stretched her hand out to get the shot, but pouted. "Ugh, my hands are too short. You take it!"

Long Yi chuckled, took the phone, and snapped the selfie—one where the two of them were cuddled up on the couch, her lying across his lap like a pampered cat, both of them smiling like a real couple.

With a wicked little giggle, Han Yue posted it on her Weibo with the caption:

"With my boyfriend ❤️"

Just as she was admiring the post and laughing to herself, Long Yi leaned in and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.

His ears were red as he stood up. "Okay, have fun. I'm going to work now."

Then he walked out calmly, as if nothing had happened.

Han Yue sat there frozen, eyes wide. "Did he just… kiss me?!"

She puffed her cheeks and muttered, "Grrr… Long Yi, you sly fox... Hmph!"

Still flustered, she stood up and changed into training gear before heading out to the training site, where the others were already warming up.

Part 4

Han Yue continued going to the training site to train, leaving her little babies safely inside the space. After arriving and stretching with the others, she noticed the bulletin board had new mission updates. Some were basic outdoor exercises to adapt trainees to the environment, while others were real assignments—reported incidents gathered by Commander Long that required observation or intervention. Missions came from Base J and neighboring bases or cities, all listed on the large electric bulletin board that refreshed constantly.

Han Yue stood in front of it, scanning through the listings with growing interest. She had been feeling restless—her daily life had become a cycle of training, eating, and going home. Compared to her past life, where every day was a fight to survive and she accepted missions just to live, this peace was... strange. Comfortable, yes, but also dangerous. A dulled sword was useless in the apocalypse.

As she stared at the missions, a familiar presence stood beside her. Shadow 2, silent as usual, looked at the board and asked in a low voice, "Interested?"

Without looking, Han Yue replied, "Yeah. I've gotten too comfortable lately. Training and going home like this… it's not good. My blade will get dull."

Shadow 2 nodded. "Agreed." Then, after a moment, he added, "I received a mission yesterday. I'm heading out tomorrow. If you're serious, ask Assistant Chen. You're Rank 5 now—you'll qualify."

With that, he quietly walked off to eat.

Han Yue stood for a moment, then turned and headed straight to the admin building. She knocked playfully on the office door and peeked in. "Oh hello, my dear comrade—I missed you dearly!" she greeted, holding up a colorful bag full of snacks and chilled drinks. She plopped them onto Assistant Chen's desk.

Chen Yan stared at her blankly for a beat, then reached for a drink and opened a bag of chips. Squinting at her suspiciously, he asked, "Alright. What do you want, Miss Yue?"

Grinning, Han Yue leaned on the desk. "I want in on Shadow 2's mission tomorrow. He saw me staring at the board and said I could come if I asked. You know I've done tons of missions before—government ops, private rescue work—so it's not like I'm new to this."

Chen chewed slowly while thinking. What she said wasn't wrong—Han Yue was indeed Rank 5, and the strongest awakener at the base right now.

Finally, he nodded and picked up the comms. "Secretary Wen, Miss Han Yue will be joining Shadow 2 on his mission tomorrow."

On the other end, Secretary Wen didn't respond immediately. He was sitting beside Long Yi, so he leaned over and updated him on the situation.

Long Yi raised an eyebrow but calmly nodded. "Let her go," he said. "No need to ask next time—she can apply for whatever mission she wants."

Secretary Wen relayed the message. "Approved. Going forward, no need to ask again. Miss Han Yue is free to join missions at her discretion."

Chen Yan then handed her a mission briefing document.

Han Yue opened it and read carefully:

Mission Type: Government-backedObjective: Investigate and dismantle a criminal base reported near the coastal borderDetails: A mid-sized gang has established a private base using an abandoned resort hotel (formerly a hot spring). They're involved in illegal crimes—kidnapping, trafficking, prostitution, murder, and smuggling.Goal:

Detain suspects

Rescue victims

Retrieve criminal records and evidence

Secure and transport resources and suppliesNotes: Due to the resort's coastal location, it avoided much relocation. Survivors still living nearby may also require evacuation or assistance.

After reading through, Han Yue handed the papers back and said, "I'll go. My space ability will make collecting supplies easier."

Chen nodded in agreement and motioned to the scanner. "Scan your smartwatch—it'll log you into Shadow 2's team for tomorrow. The mission will also go on your record. In the future, this lets you qualify for bigger or even confidential missions—government, military, or private."

She placed her wrist over the scanner. Beep.

Chen confirmed. "Alright. Be here at the hall by 6 PM tomorrow. Shadow 2 is your team leader—follow his orders in the field."

Han Yue nodded earnestly. "Understood. I'll follow the leader."

Then, with a cheerful wave, she left the office.

Chen sat back and resumed munching on the snacks she brought. "Hah… these snacks really hit the spot. Thankfully, Han Yue came today."
