Chapter 1 – Inheritance of Thorns
9:03 PM — Morioh Town, Joestar Residence
The sound of shattering glass snapped Johan out of his trance. A crash—then a low groan, guttural and not quite human—echoed from the garden.
He pulled out his earbuds.
Silence… then a scream.
He ran.
The hallway blurred. His socks skidded across the polished floor. As he burst through the back door, the porch light flickered once—then went dark.
The air smelled of burnt wood and blood.
And then he saw it.
His mother—Erina—lay sprawled across the garden stones. Her arms outstretched, fingers still twitching. Her blood had already begun soaking into the soil, feeding the roots of the bonsai she once admired.
Above her, a twisted monster of wood and flesh—towering and grotesque, wrapped in pulsing vines and thorns—loomed with a warped expression on its half-human face.
It had once been his father.
"...Dad?" Johan whispered.
The abomination twitched—and then from within, Yojun's voice emerged, weak, terrified.
"I-I-I'm sorry… I don't know when it happened… my arm—my arm turned into wood and stabbed her—JoJo, I—I—"
He choked mid-sentence.
Suddenly, Yojun screamed.
Blood erupted from his mouth, his eyes, his nose. His body spasmed uncontrollably inside the shell of Red Velvet as the Stand's evolution surged, uncontrolled.
Then, it attacked.
A vine lashed forward like a whip, slicing through the air with a sharp hiss. Johan tried to jump, but he was still frozen—his mind caught between horror and disbelief.
SLASH.
Pain exploded across his chest. Blood sprayed. Johan was thrown back across the porch, crashing into the doorframe. He hit the ground hard, his shirt torn and bloodied.
The monster stepped forward. Red Velvet's form crackled—half Stand, half corpse—vines hissing and twitching like serpents. It stood over Johan's crumpled body.
For a moment… silence.
Yojun's face—what remained of it—collapsed in despair.
"...I killed him. I killed my boy…"
But then—
"No..."
A voice. Weak. Furious.
Johan pushed himself upright, his knees barely holding. Blood trickled from his lip, but his eyes blazed with unrelenting fury. Tears streamed down his face.
"No... not yet..."
Behind him, a colossal Stand began to form—rising from the ground like a curse breaking free of its seal.
Its body was tall, armored, and strangely elegant. It had four arms, each ending in a distinct hand gesture:
First right hand: Ring and middle fingers down, the rest raised.
Second right hand: Thumb and index curled into a circle.
Left hands: Mirrored counterparts in perfect reverse.
Its eyes glowed with controlled chaos.
World Over-Run had awakened.
Yojun, even in his mutated form, smiled softly.
"You finally summoned it... JoJo... please, run."
But it was too late.
Another vine burst from the earth—this time shaped like a spear, sharpened to a deadly point. It launched toward Johan, piercing through the garden tiles, roaring toward his heart.
"JOOOOOJOOOOOOO!!" Yojun screamed.
STAB.
The vine struck.
Johan's body jerked backward from the impact—but… he didn't fall.
The spear had missed his vital organs. Just barely.
And Johan smiled.
"Heh… That's the thing, Dad… It's not just me."
He dropped to one knee, still upright. His fingers brushed against the garden floor—where a puddle of cold tea lay spilled.
(Internal monologue)
I slipped when I ran… That's what moved me just enough. And… my shoe sole came off too…
His breath trembled.
"That wasn't me surviving. That was—"
"World Over-Run."
The Stand glowed brighter. The air seemed to twist around Johan.
"It boosted my luck… and made the world's luck turn against him."
He raised his hand.
"WORLD OVERR-RUN!"
The Stand launched forward, arms a blur of motion.
Ri-Ri-Ri-Ri-Ri-Ri-Ri-Ri—!!!
The fists struck Red Velvet's body with punishing force—flesh tearing, bark cracking, petals flying in every direction.
Eighty-nine punches. Five seconds.
Yojun's monstrous form reeled from the assault.
But Red Velvet wouldn't die.
From its chest, it scattered hundreds of seed-pods—tiny explosive thorns that embedded into the earth and sprouted instantly, forming tree-traps.
They shot out branches—impalement vines.
Johan ducked.
Then rolled.
Then jumped left, slipped right, and spun around a vine.
Every movement was a miracle of coincidence.
He missed. Again. And again. And again.
World Over-Run was amplifying Johan's survival by 500%.
And it wasn't just luck on Johan's side anymore—bad luck rippled across the garden. The wires from the house, loosened by Red Velvet's previous attacks, sparked and struck a puddle.
FZZZ—BOOM.
A fire exploded behind the house—igniting the wooden walls and lighting the night in a hellish red glow.
Red Velvet stumbled—tripped over a root from its own growth—and crashed into the flames.
Johan stood on the cracked, smoking rubble. His body burned. His eyes hollowed. But he didn't flinch.
He looked at the monster that had once been his father.
"You need to rest, Dad…"
"…I guess that's what Mom's last thought would've been."
He raised his hand to his left eye, fingers tightening around his hair.
His legs straightened, locking into a pose. His right hand extended, index finger pointed at the abomination.
Tears still streamed down his face.
His voice cracked.
"DEAD STAAAAR!!!"
From behind him, a new Stand materialized.
Its body was tall and armored in black-and-white vertical stripes—like a twisted king's garb. A golden crown rested upon its head, adorned with small needles. Its arms were decorated with golden bracelets, each one marked by thin, sharp pins—almost like a voodoo doll's touch.
The Stand's four eyes opened slowly.
It made no sound.
But its presence was absolute.
And Johan—crying, broken, but burning with resolve—stood between it and the thing his father had become.
