Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: Mash Burnedead and the Mirror’s Location

"To do that, we need to hit the ruins again!" Momo declares.

"Knew it," Midori sighs.

"If we're hunting the G.Bible, I'm coming too," Yuzu says.

"Yuzu!?" Momo gasps.

"You haven't left campus in months, taking classes online…" Midori trails off.

"It's my fault originally… and this clubroom isn't just mine anymore. I want to protect it," Yuzu insists.

"Yuzu…" Momo softens.

Fanfare! "Yuzu joins the party!" Alice cheers.

"Game Dev, to the ruins for G.Bible… Go!" Mash rallies.

"Go!!" the team shouts.

"G-Go!" Yuzu stammers.

Mash's party heads to the ruins.

Ruins

Robot soldiers await, guns ready.

"Already spotted!?" Momo panics.

"We broke in before. They upped security," Mash says.

"So many… with varied weapons," Yuzu notes.

"Lots of enemies? Blast them with firepower! Alice, go!" Momo orders.

"Yes, Sensei!" Alice nods.

"Plan A," Mash says.

"Plan… what?" Midori blinks.

Alice readies Supernova. Mash lifts her like a turret.

"Mobile fixed cannon, ready!" Bam!

"Charging!" Bam!

"What's that combo!? When'd you plan this!?" Momo yells.

"Mobile cannon? Never heard of it!" Midori gapes.

"Supernova's 140 kg, right? But Sensei's staff is a ton…" Yuzu mutters.

Mash, holding Alice, glares at the robots—a warning. They freeze, but Alice keeps charging.

"Supernova, fully charged!" Whirr!

"Fire away, Ya!" Mash commands.

"Ya!" BOOM!

Mash runs, carrying Alice. Robots fire, but—

"Missed," Mash dodges.

"Bullets are powerless before us!" Alice taunts.

Mash evades every shot, while Supernova's energy blasts shred the robots.

BOOM BOOM BOOM!

A moving railgun with devastating power overwhelms them.

"This railgun breaks game balance," Midori says.

"Let's cover!" Momo urges.

"Yeah!" Yuzu agrees.

Momo and Yuzu target stragglers. Overwhelmed, robots flee, but—

"No escape," Mash says.

"You're already dead!" Alice declares.

Mash circles ahead, blasting them point-blank.

"Light!" KABOOM!

Robots vanish in light. No one outruns Mash and Alice.

"Those two are game-breakers," Momo says.

"Mobile insta-kill boss character," Midori adds.

"Patched out in a day," Yuzu murmurs.

"Enemy party wiped! Victory high-five!" Alice cheers.

"Yeah!" Mash high-fives.

"Woo!" Momo joins.

"Y-Yeah…" Yuzu hesitates.

The party celebrates and heads to a factory Midori spots.

Factory Interior

Dark, powerless, eerie.

"Got in easy," Momo says.

"Thanks to Sensei and Alice. Saved ammo!" Midori grins.

"Super creepy…" Yuzu shivers.

"Like a dungeon… Alice, you okay?" Momo asks.

"…" Alice looks around.

"If you're sick, I'll carry you," Mash offers.

"I'm fine…" Alice says.

Mash notices her expression.

"Know this place?" he asks.

"Not sure… but it feels familiar," Alice says. "We need to go… that way."

"Huh?" Midori blinks.

"Let's follow," Mash says.

Alice scans the area.

"No memory, but… like I have save data here," she says.

"What? It's similar to where we found you, but…" Momo muses.

"A computer… powered on?" Yuzu points.

Beep!

A lone computer lights up as they approach.

"Welcome to Di:viSion System. Enter your query," it says.

"Super sketchy… Smash it?" Momo suggests.

"No, Sensei! If it's critical, we're in trouble," Midori warns.

"Typing G.Bible," Alice says.

Something appears.

Pressing Enter…

#$@#$$%#%^&(#@*

The screen glitches, emitting strange noises.

"Broke it!? What'd you type!?" Momo panics.

"I didn't press Enter yet…" Alice says.

"Your touch crashed it? Machine-breaking power!" Midori teases.

"No way!" Momo protests.

"Maybe she controls electricity," Mash suggests.

"Could be," Yuzu nods.

"Not true!" Alice insists.

"Electronic manipulation… cool character," Momo says.

"Agreed," Yuzu adds.

"Don't join them, Yuzu!" Midori snaps. "Lightning characters with any weapon are cool."

"Totally," Momo agrees.

Mash, versed in club games, joins the character debate, ignoring the computer.

Are you AL-1S?

No one hears.

"Muscle-only fighters are awesome," Mash says.

"Support mages are great too!" Momo adds.

"I'd be a speedy trickster. Alice?" Midori asks.

"A just hero with overwhelming light power!" Alice says.

"Energy-manipulating villain," Yuzu murmurs.

Are you AL-1S?

Still ignored.

"Betrayal characters… forgivable sometimes," Momo says.

"Pointless betrayals suck. Sensei, you okay with betrayal?" Midori asks.

"Shocking, but I'd hear their reason, then decide to fight. Those who hurt others? I'd make them apologize," Mash says.

"Classic Sensei," Momo grins.

Are you AL—

"Final boss as your dad… heavy, right?" Midori says.

"Too heavy. I'd freeze," Momo admits.

"I'd fight as a hero!" Alice declares.

"Sympathetic ones are tough to kill. Sensei?" Yuzu asks.

"My family's who raised me. A 'I'm your dad' reveal? I'd just say 'cool' and move on," Mash says.

"So Sensei," Midori laughs.

"I'd say, 'Doesn't matter, you're going down,'" Mash adds.

"Cool…" they murmur.

The computer, fed up, snaps.

ARE YOU AL-1S!? it booms.

"Whoa!" Momo jumps.

"Loud!" Midori flinches.

You ignored me repeatedly, lost in your world. Rude, don't you think?

"Sorry!" they chorus.

Fine, if you're sorry… Are you AL-1S? Voice authentication already done.

"No, I'm Alice!" she insists.

Voice re-authenticated. Welcome back, AL-1S.

"AL-1S… is that you, Alice?" Momo asks.

"Didn't tell Yuzu yet," Midori says.

"My real name… my true self…" Alice murmurs.

"Do you know about AL-1S?" Mash asks.

"Slow response?" Momo says.

"Screen's fuzzy. Overloaded? Or mad we ignored it?" Midori guesses.

Not—@!#%#@!$%@!!!!

It glitches again.

Emergency. Power limit reached. Shutting down in 51 seconds.

"No! Tell us about G.Bible first!" Momo pleads.

Seeking G.Bible?

"Yes!" they shout.

G.Bible confirmed. Code: Game… Human, Understanding, Reference, Library No. 193. Discarded Data No. 1. 35 seconds.

"Discarded!? Why? It's a treasure!" Momo protests.

"Let my memory handle… nope, forgot," Mash admits.

"Too fast!" Midori snaps.

To obtain G.Bible, connect a storage medium for data transfer.

"You know where it is?" Midori asks.

You do. It's before you.

"What!?" Momo gasps.

I contain G.Bible but am fading. I need a new medium.

"Storage? Like a Game Girls Advance SP memory card?" Momo offers.

…Possible.

"Sounds annoyed," Midori notes.

"Data cable connected!" Yuzu says.

Transfer started. Insufficient space. Deleting existing data. 9 seconds.

"What!? My save data!?" Momo shrieks.

"My Pokémon were in there…" Mash mourns.

Securing space.

"No! Spare my save data!" Momo begs.

"At least Shumi, Shuko, Shujiro…" Mash pleads.

Deletion complete.

"Nooooo!" Momo wails.

Mash collapses, devastated.

"Sensei's first damage… such attachment," Midori says.

Silence falls, grief heavy.

"Power's gone?" Yuzu asks.

"Our save data!" Momo sobs.

"Screen's back!" Midori points.

Transfer complete. New data sent.

"This is it!" Momo gasps.

"Let's run it! …Password-locked!?" Midori groans.

"Veritas can crack it," Yuzu says.

"With this, we can make an amazing game!" Momo cheers.

"No reason to stay. Let's go!" Midori says.

"Agreed!" they chorus.

Mash's party escapes with the G.Bible data, thrilled. But Alice lingers, uneasy.

Veritas

Millennium's unofficial hacker club. Self-proclaimed white hackers, but most lack ethics, causing trouble and getting scolded by vice-leader Chihiro.

Next day, Mash's party visits Veritas for G.Bible analysis results.

"Got results on your data," Hare says.

"Here it comes!" Momo tenses.

"Exciting!" Midori says.

"Thrilling!" Alice adds.

"Veritas is Kivotos' top hacker group. We've solved countless system issues. Straight to the point," Hare says.

Momo, Midori, Yuzu, and Alice listen intently.

"Momo, your game save data can't be recovered," Hare says.

"Nooo!" Momo collapses, sobbing.

Momo knew save data recovery was tough but hoped.

"Shumi, Shuko, Shujiro, Shuta, Shunki, Shunko… rest in peace," Mash prays.

"Praying to a console…" Midori mutters.

"Such a sad face, like losing family," Hare notes.

Mash's grief would shock Regro.

"Shumi and them were my friends… family, second to Grandpa," Mash says.

"Good son," Hare says.

"Weird guy," Kotama adds.

Veritas sees Mash as "odd," but the real goal isn't save data.

"What about G.Bible's password!?" Midori demands.

"Maki's on it," Kotama says, spinning her chair.

"Maki?" Midori asks.

"Yo, Mid! Thanks for coming!" Maki emerges, red-haired and graffiti-loving.

"No prob… what's with Momo and Sensei?" Maki asks.

"My sons…" Mash mourns.

"Sons!?" Maki startles.

"Game characters. Ignore," Midori says.

"Phew…" Maki sighs. "G.Bible's legit. The legendary developer's game manual. No doubt."

"Really!?" Momo gasps.

"No way!" Yuzu and Alice echo.

"Recovered!" Midori cheers.

They leap up, thrilled. Mash and Alice's strength made it easy, but securing G.Bible feels huge.

"File dates, format, and IP match the legendary developer. Only transferred once," Maki says.

"So…" Midori starts.

"The original G.Bible," Maki confirms.

"Amazing!" Momo squeals.

"But…" Maki adds.

"Password's still locked," Hare says.

"What!? Useless then!" Momo groans.

"I'm a cracker, not a white hacker…" Maki mutters.

"Confirming it's real is huge. Thanks, Makima!" Mash says.

"One 'Ma' too many! Maki!" she corrects.

"Sorry," Mash says.

Maki coughs, refocusing.

"Password's near impossible to crack, but we can bypass security and copy the contents with Optimus Mirror System—aka Mirror," Maki explains.

"No clue," Momo says.

"Lost," Mash adds.

"So, G.Bible's locked, and we need Mirror to unlock it?" Midori summarizes.

They nod.

"Where's Mirror?" Momo asks.

"We had it," Hare says.

"Had!?" Midori gasps.

"Seminar confiscated it," Maki grumbles.

"Yuuka and Noah's group?" Yuzu asks.

"They stormed in, said 'illegal tools are banned,' and took it!" Maki rants.

"My bugs got nabbed too," Kotama adds.

"Bugs!?" Midori chokes.

"Is Mirror dangerous?" Mash asks.

"Nope. Just a decryption tool," Hare says.

"But…" she continues.

"It's the only one, made by our leader Himari," Hare says.

"Himari?" Mash asks.

"Veritas' leader. Wheelchair-bound, but a genius with an All-Knowing degree—only three in Millennium's history," Hare explains.

"So, super smart and awesome," Mash says.

"Basically," Hare nods.

"Why'd they take it?" Midori asks.

Kotama looks away.

"I just wanted to check Sensei's messages. Needed Mirror. No bad intentions," Kotama says.

"Totally bad!" Momo snaps.

"You can see my phone," Mash offers.

"Really!?" Kotama perks.

"No, Sensei! Privacy!" Midori scolds.

"Right," Mash backs off.

"I'll get chewed out without Mirror!" Kotama wails.

"We need Mirror back. You need it for G.Bible," Hare says.

Maki sulks; Hare eyes them.

Mirror, Himari's decryption tool, was seized by Seminar. Arguing won't work, and fighting's suicidal. They need allies, but who'd challenge Seminar?

Then, Game Dev steps up.

"Got it," Momo says.

"Quick thinking, Momo," Hare smirks.

"Same goal, same journey," Midori says.

"A raid battle? We're party members!" Alice declares.

"Seriously!?" Maki gasps.

"So…" Mash nods.

"Attack Seminar!" they agree, except Midori.

Midori initially resists, but with Game Dev's future at stake, she relents.

"One problem," Hare says.

"What?" Momo asks.

"Mirror's in Seminar's confiscated goods vault, guarded by… Maid Club," Hare says.

"Maid Club?" Yuzu asks.

"The frilly, cute ones? What's the issue?" Mash asks.

"Seminar's maids aren't normal," Kotama warns.

Maid Club (C&C)

Millennium's elite agents, top-tier in combat. Their maid uniforms and "M16-holding maid" emblem are iconic. They "clean" enemies with graceful precision.

"Scary," Mash says.

"They guard Mirror?" Midori asks.

"Yup. Minor issue," Maki says.

"Got it… Let's quit! Game Dev, about-face! March!" Momo bolts.

"No giving up, Momo! You want G.Bible!" Alice restrains her.

"I do! But fighting Maid Club? I'd rather jump into a volcano!" Momo protests.

"Without Mirror, I'm toast… and Game Dev's done!" Maki says.

"Wasteful, sure, but C&C's wiped out countless groups," Momo says.

"They leave no trace," Hare adds.

"Terrifying," Yuzu shivers.

C&C's strength is absolute, erasing all evidence.

"I want to save the club, but you guys are more important. Too risky!" Momo says.

"True, but…" Midori hesitates.

"Even Alice's strength has limits. We're dead weight. We need a cheat character!" Momo says.

"Wait…" Midori realizes.

Momo forgot—Mash, the human weapon, is here.

"Who's going?" Midori asks.

"Us, Veritas, and… oh!" Momo gasps.

"An ace?" Maki asks.

"Yes! Sensei!" Momo cheers, bouncing.

"We have Sensei!"

"Hold up! You're volunteering him!?" Midori snaps.

"No halo, and you'd send him against maids?" Hare asks.

"Too far, Momo…" Yuzu says.

"You don't know Sensei. Show them!" Momo aims her gun at Mash's chest.

Veritas panics, but Alice stops them.

"Bring it," Mash says.

"3, 2, 1… Fire!" Bang!

Mash catches the bullet bare-handed.

"What!?" Veritas gasps.

"Knew it," Alice says.

"What are you!?" Hare demands.

"Trained human," Mash says.

"Liar!" Maki snaps.

"True," Mash insists.

"He lifted a 1-ton staff and reshaped it," Momo brags.

"How!?" Hare asks.

"Like this," Mash says.

Veritas reels but sees potential.

"Sensei can handle maids, right?" Momo asks.

"If they're all Tsurugi-level… tough," Mash admits.

Tsurugi from Trinity!? He fought her and lived? Veritas thinks.

"One maid, their leader, is that strong," Hare says.

"Oh?" Mash perks.

"But she's absent," Hare adds.

"Nice," Mash nods.

Her absence boosts their chances.

Pavane's ending soon, then side stories, then Eden. Time flies. Eden's tough, but I'll nail it.
