MHGA Chapter 201 – Hunters' Quarrel
"Has Mr. David truly made up his mind?"
Seeing David make such a declaration, Tanjiro clenched his fists and encouraged him, "You can do it, Mr. David!"
"So you've made your decision," Himmel said with a soft smile. "If you need me, just call—I'll come to help anytime."
"Not bad, David! I'm actually kinda impressed!" Joseph threw an arm around David's shoulders.
But while the other Hunters were encouraging David, Naofumi Iwatani stood with his arms crossed and voiced the opposite view:
"I don't think what you're talking about can be accomplished so easily."
Naofumi's words immediately shifted the focus of the conversation to him. Under the attention of the other Hunters, Naofumi calmly shared his perspective.
"I did some research in a game, digging through in-game materials about David's world. Those game texts are great for understanding backstories."
He tapped the Shield on his arm, expression unreadable but edged with indifference. "I've previously discussed our worlds with the Guildmaster, Kazuma, and Joseph."
"Rakuro, Shirou, Tanjiro—I've also reviewed their stories. In terms of development, their worlds aren't that different from ours…"
"But while the cyberpunk world resembles ours on the surface, the reality is drastically different."
Naofumi's finger tapping against his shield quickened, revealing a trace of anxiety beneath his calm exterior. "Dystopian… that's what I'd call it. Compared to our worlds, Night City is far more oppressive."
"Nations and borders are blurred. The entire world is enveloped in a massive web of information technology. In David's world, megacorporations are the real rulers."
Naofumi looked David in the eye. "If you just want to change the lives of yourself and those around you, that's easy…"
He took a deep breath and continued, "Relying on your abilities as a Hunter—and with help from everyone at the Gathering Hub—you could live well in Night City. You could even bring your loved ones to a safer place."
"But if you want to do what you said… to change Night City, or the entire world…" Naofumi shook his head. "That's not something you can achieve so easily."
"Megacorporations that've gathered the wealth of the entire world and compete on a global scale… When mobilized, their power is immense. David, you should know that better than anyone. Maybe we'll be able to deal with them someday—but not right now."
Naofumi's expression turned grim. "And we can't stay in Night City forever. Each of us has a future waiting in our own world."
"But the things happening in Night City… they're hard to ignore." A shadow crossed Himmel's face.
The Scavenger hospital had left a deep impression on him.
Unlike the demons from his own memories, this was pure human-on-human cruelty. It wasn't even predatory—it was purely for profit.
"If David wants to save people, I'm willing to help," Shirou Emiya quietly raised his hand and voiced his support.
"I agree with Naofumi, though," Kazuma chimed in. "We're just low-ranking Hunters—we can't change stuff like that yet!"
Laios, who had been silently thinking, finally spoke. "Then… what if we used the Winged Lion's power?"
He offered a suggestion. "If it's the Winged Lion, maybe it could affect the whole world. I don't know how powerful these 'megacorps' you're talking about are, but the Winged Lion should be able to manage something, right?"
"Oh yeah!" Tanjiro said brightly. "If it's Mr. Winged Lion, he'll definitely be able to help David…"
"So what, are we making David the Master of the Dungeon?" Joseph scratched his head. "How is he supposed to make a wish to change the world?"
Just as the conversation began to veer off course, Kairo Retsu finally spoke.
"…I don't agree."
His voice was calm and firm, unusually serious. "As Guildmaster, I'm rejecting the proposal to rely on the Winged Lion's power."
His statement instantly silenced the room.
"The Winged Lion is not a convenient tool—or a wish machine."
Kairo Retsu continued, "Not long ago, it was still being called a demon. Did you all forget that?"
"Changing the world isn't something that should be decided in a few casual sentences." He looked around at the Hunters. "David's world isn't something we can just tamper with…"
"Someone else's world—is not our game."
His tone was grave. "If you're just asking the Winged Lion to lend some magical power, that's one thing… But trying to use its power to change the world? How is that any different from the 'monsters' we were sent to eliminate?"
Then he turned to Naofumi. "You're right—we can't stay in Night City forever. Even if we had the strength to resolve all of its issues, the aftermath would be too complex."
"We can't remain in Night City, David. I hope you understand that." Kairo Retsu looked at him. "Your world's problems… can only be solved by you."
"If you've truly decided to take on Night City's problems—or more—"
He looked straight into David's eyes. "Then be prepared to dedicate your entire body and soul to it."
"…I understand." David clenched his fists. "This won't be easy… and I never planned to rely on everyone at the Gathering Hub for everything."
"I just want to start making a change—from now on," David said. "Even if it takes years… or decades…"
"Thank you, Naofumi Iwatani." David turned and bowed his head slightly. "What you said—was because you genuinely care about what I want to do."
"…Just saying the kind of stuff that suits this face." Naofumi crossed his arms, face as stern as ever. "But if you ever need help, I can lend a hand."
"Wait a sec… While we can't stay in Night City forever, short-term support is still doable."
Kairo Retsu lightened his tone a little. "As Guildmaster, how could I not do everything I can for my team?! At the very least, I should prepare a solid foundation for David!"
With that, he pulled out a massive blueprint and said:
"David, how'd you like to meet… some of Arasaka Corporation's top brass?"
