MHGA Chapter 202 – A New Atmosphere in Night City
Roughly ten minutes later, Kairo Retsu gave the Hunters a brief rundown of Arasaka Corporation's internal structure, and one key individual—
Yorinobu Arasaka.
He was the heir to the Arasaka Group—the youngest and only surviving son of the company's patriarch, Saburo Arasaka.
As the designated successor of Arasaka, Yorinobu held ideals starkly opposed to the identity he was born into.
"Huh?"
Several Hunters, who had only played the early portion of the game, looked puzzled at Kairo Retsu's explanation.
"Yorinobu Arasaka? The guy who killed his own dad?" Naofumi Iwatani asked with a confused expression. "Isn't he supposed to be the antagonist?"
"Yeah, exactly!" Kazuma Sato chimed in. "He straight-up slammed his dad against the wall and strangled him to death! We were, like, a meter away in the game when it happened!"
"He's totally the final boss of the game!!!"
"I get it!" Rakuro Hizutome was visibly excited. "There's always a twist like this! The games I played—even the garbage-tier ones—usually had some kind of plot reversal!"
"Let me finish explaining and you'll understand."
Kairo Retsu continued with Yorinobu Arasaka's backstory—directed especially at David.
In 2016, the day after graduating university at age 21, Yorinobu learned the truth about Arasaka in Saburo's private chambers. That very evening, after the family dinner, he disappeared.
Despite being the heir to Arasaka, Yorinobu made a choice completely at odds with his status. From the age of 21, he became a true revolutionary—placing himself in the shoes of ordinary people and fighting on their behalf.
Even in the game, the tarot card placed in front of Yorinobu's villa was The Moon.
The Moon reminds us: Reality often differs from first impressions.
Yorinobu Arasaka gave up wealth and power fifty years ago—for the sake of his ideals.
"David, if you truly want to change the world… we're not your companions."
Kairo Retsu said this calmly: "At best, we're your support team—your backup. The one most likely to walk the same path as you… is Yorinobu Arasaka."
Yorinobu's goal from the very beginning was to overthrow Arasaka and every other megacorporation—and atone for the sins of his family.
A man who could become the evil dragon, but instead chose to be the dragon-slaying hero.
"I have a plan."
Kairo Retsu leaned over the table, palms down, eyes shining.
"Let's have David cooperate with Yorinobu. Let's make what was supposed to happen in 2077… happen now."
He continued, "To do that… we need a bargaining chip powerful enough to draw all our targets to Night City."
As he spoke, Kairo Retsu produced a small vial filled with glowing green liquid—a Potion—and placed it at the center of the table.
"Pure and potent life force… even with half your body missing, you can regenerate in an instant." Kairo Retsu narrowed his eyes. "There's no way he can ignore this."
"Saburo Arasaka is a bastard obsessed with immortality."
Kairo Retsu added, "And Yorinobu knows that all too well. So… let's use this bait to lure them all to Night City."
"Only when they're here… can Night City truly become safer." He smiled. "Luckily, I'm already prepared."
"Prepared?" Naofumi looked puzzled. "How do you plan to let Saburo and Yorinobu know about the Potion?"
"Didn't we already get in touch with Afterlife?"
Kairo Retsu grinned wide. "Once Potions start circulating in mercenary hands, word will spread across Night City like wildfire."
"Besides, who said we have to be honest?"
He raised a brow. "Who said this is just an ordinary medicine? This is a legendary elixir… extracted from countless rare materials."
"And conveniently enough—"
Kairo Retsu flashed a radiant grin. "We just so happen to have a legendary creature—a Unicorn—roaming around Night City."
"Let's stir this entire city into a frenzy!"
Lately, strange things had been happening in Night City.
A lot of residents had started to notice.
Even the radio hosts seemed bewildered when announcing the latest results of the Death Lotto.
"Good morning, Night City! Yesterday's Death Lotto tally comes in at a grand total of… just one?"
The host's voice was tinged with disbelief. "This is unprecedented peace—only one poor soul kicked the bucket yesterday! And it was a cyberpsycho!"
"Wow, would you believe it! A group of unknown individuals in Santo Domingo captured an entire Scavenger outfit—alive—and handed them over to NCPD! Who knew there were good guys in Night City?"
"Even the State of Pacifica hasn't had a single incident today—what the hell is going on?!"
"It's a beautiful day in the city! This is your buddy Stan—let's kick off another dream-chasing day in the City of Dreams!"
The radio host's voice blared through the airwaves.
Even listeners were starting to get weirded out.
No one dying in Night City? Is this really Night City anymore?
Meanwhile, on a street downtown, a tall off-road vehicle rumbled forward.
Kairo Retsu burst out of the sunroof with arms wide open, shouting to the streets:
"Good morning, Night City!!"
"Come on, cheer for us!"
He yelled with gusto—but the pedestrians who saw him and his absurdly modified vehicle only bowed their heads and walked faster.
Still, some curious onlookers gave him strange looks, snapping a few photos of the man bearing a massive weapon.
"Guildmaster, you're driving next! It's my turn to do patrol duty!" Joseph said, lazily chewing gum and blowing a bubble, one hand on the steering wheel of the semi-beat-up Hummer rolling through the streets of Night City.
"No rush! Let me enjoy this wild wind a little longer! I am the child of the wind!" Kairo Retsu grinned, half his body dangling out, relishing the feeling of swaying freely in the breeze. "Let's go, Joseph! Our target today is the Scavs again!"
"Are we really okay not hunting Kirin?" Joseph asked, popping his gum. "Hiring mercs to help track prey… feels way too flashy."
"A legend of Night City should be flashy."
Kairo Retsu rested atop the car. "Speaking of…"
"…is David still kneeling at home?"
