MHGA Chapter 243: The Newcomers' Rapid Growth

Kairo Retsu had said he'd known many versions of Shirou Emiya. But in his world—the world of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya—Shirou Emiya was, without a doubt, just an ordinary high school student.

From beginning to end, no matter how much danger Illya faced later on, he remained an ordinary high schooler.

But Shirou Emiya couldn't accept that.

He already knew what kind of difficult future awaited Illya. How could he pretend none of it was real?

"I can't just sit here and do nothing."

Gritting his teeth, Shirou began gathering his arrows and went into motion.

Tanjiro had already completely drawn the Kirin's attention, giving Shirou plenty of time to execute harassing attacks.

He slammed a Power Coating into his bow, took position on high ground, and began charging his shots at the Kirin.

Shirou quieted his mind, bringing forth every bit of skill he'd honed in the archery club. He tried to still his heartbeat.

Hunting and archery club practice were two very different things.

There was no time here for ceremony or breathing techniques to refine posture and mindset.

All that mattered now in the hunt was one thing: hit the Kirin—precisely, repeatedly, even if it only slightly weakened the beast. That was the best Shirou could do.

Faster—faster!

Forget elegance of form. Instead of chasing that elusive calm, it was better to pour his entire concentration into the hunt.

All the discipline and focus from kyūdō could still serve a purpose… and what Shirou needed now was to fire as many arrows as he could in the shortest time possible—to deal the most damage.

"One!"

With the first shot loosed, Shirou immediately used a sidestep to reposition, converting the momentum into his next charged shot.

His attacks had already started drawing the Kirin's attention—but right now, it couldn't afford to focus on the distant Shirou.

Because Tanjiro was desperately blocking its path.

Every time the Kirin tried to move toward the others, Tanjiro would block it with his Long Sword, countering with that signature cling move that parried its charge, holding it at bay.

So the Kirin responded with unrestrained lightning, raining down indiscriminate destruction.

Shirou felt the overwhelming danger.

"Two!"

As the second charged arrow flew, Shirou once again sidestepped to a new position—and a thick bolt of lightning struck right behind him, barely grazing past.

Shirou had no doubt—if he'd been even a little off, that unimaginable voltage would've turned him into a charred husk.

This was his first time experiencing what it felt like to dance on a sword's edge.

But even Shirou himself was surprised—he was adapting surprisingly well.

"Three!!"

While running and dodging, Shirou kept up his attacks, targeting the Kirin that Tanjiro was holding at bay—buying the others precious time.

The Kirin was a trial for these new Hunters—a prelude to the many challenges yet to come.

If he—and the rest of them—wanted to change the future, they had no choice but to charge straight at these seemingly impossible foes.

If he wanted to protect the people he cared about… this was what he had to do!

Arrows rained down one after another, each charged and powerful, slamming into the Kirin's body.

Among them were specialized arrows equipped with guided tips—these embedded themselves in the Kirin's hide.

When Shirou moved behind terrain that blocked his line of sight, those special guided arrowheads would redirect incoming shots toward the Kirin, attacking it from alternate angles and stacking up the damage.

(Wilds Bow New Move — Guided Arrow)

While Tanjiro and Shirou kept the Kirin occupied, David and Rakuro rejoined the battle.

"Tanjiro!!! I'm up!"

David emerged from the rubble, tearing off his ruined outer layer, revealing a lean, muscular upper body. He raised his Gunlance and shield, stepping to the very front. "I… can hold it back!!"

"Go for the horn!!"

David shouted, "All of you—aim for its horn!!!"

"I'll take its hits!"

He pulled the trigger on his left hand, charging the Gunlance, the booming blast instantly drawing the Kirin's attention.

David slammed his Gunlance and shield together, making himself even more conspicuous. "Come on! You goddamn unicorn!!!"

"David…" Tanjiro hesitated briefly—but Rakuro had already activated Demon Mode and dashed past him, heading straight for the Kirin's thunder-channeling horn.

Seeing the others charge in without hesitation, Tanjiro pushed aside his doubts and surged forward as well.

David: drawing aggro and tanking with Gunlance.

Shirou: providing suppressive fire with precise bow attacks.

Rakuro: exploiting gaps in close-range combat with Dual Blades.

Tanjiro: core of the squad, wielding the Long Sword.

Four youths, all around the same age, each pushing their limits, rapidly growing in the heat of battle against an Elder Dragon.

And all of this… was caught on countless cameras—some from the remaining NCPD officers, others from nearby surveillance feeds—and started spreading throughout Night City.

Like wildfire that couldn't be smothered, the footage of the battle between the four young Hunters and the Kirin sent massive shockwaves across the city.

Some accused the footage of being fake—saying it was all fabricated CGI.

But as more and more videos surfaced from various angles, Night City's Net practically exploded.

Some people speculated that the silver beast was a corporate creation. Others demanded to know the identity of the four young fighters.

And Rogue…

Was furious.

"They actually let four kids tank that kind of monster?! Where the hell did that bastard Kairo Retsu run off to this time?!"
