MHGA Chapter 248 – David's Wrath

"!"

Lucy's mind completely crashed the moment she heard David's voice.

David? Why was David's voice here?

She had clearly seen, through Arasaka's intelligence network, the footage of David being brutally injured by some monster-like entity—his arm had even been torn off.

That's why she had sent David's location and condition to the Doc he knew, hoping he could help David… So why was David here now?

Could it be that the Doc had already saved him? And even fitted him with new cyberware? Impossible… If he had that kind of tech, he wouldn't still be doing back-alley installs while peddling braindance junk.

No—come to think of it, Adam Smasher appearing here in person was already strange enough. Logically speaking, people like them shouldn't be important enough for Adam Smasher to show up in person… And how did Adam even know where they were?

Lucy quickly realized the reason.

It was because, after seeing David's info, she had copied and forwarded it to Doc.

She had led Adam Smasher here.

The realization threw Lucy's mind into chaos.

A sickening wave of self-loathing surged through her heart.

No one here could possibly stand against Adam Smasher… He was a living legend of Night City.

He was the gravestone of all other legends in this city. Night City had the most graves for legends—and the one who filled the most of them… was Adam Smasher.

Or rather, many of those so-called legends only became legendary because they were killed by him.

It had been this way… for decades.

Arasaka Corporation's iron fist. The pinnacle of cybernetic warfare. The coldest icon of all Night City legends—a being entirely transformed by machines and violence.

A walking war machine. 96% mechanical body, with every inch pulsing the will of the corporation: he did not sleep, had no emotions, even his desires were programmed precisely for killing. In many ways, this monster was a living embodiment of corporate power in Night City—the ultimate enforcer of its law of the jungle.

Maine's crew… Lucy herself… and now David, who had just arrived—none of them would survive Adam Smasher.

Lucy's eyes dulled. Her hand, severed of its fingers by her own monowire, hung limp, dark red blood dripping onto the floor.

At that moment, after multiple high-speed leaps, David crashed down from the sky directly into the factory.

His brain was hazy from using a Sandevistan-like overclocking state. Blood had streamed from his nose only to be blown dry by the wind from his movement. But David had made it—just in time, before Maine's team and Lucy were wiped out.

Though far smaller in size compared to Adam Smasher, the impact of the seventeen-year-old's descent was no less fierce.

David was clad in dark red leather armor, wielding a weapon that didn't appear mechanical at all.

It looked as if it had been forged from some creature's bones and carapace—you could even feel as if it were breathing.

When David hit the ground, the resulting impact crater in the factory floor was no smaller than the one Adam Smasher had made.

The first thing David saw upon landing—Maine's crew, all critically injured… and Lucy, still in Adam Smasher's grip, her fingers severed by the monowire.

Fury flooded David's brain in an instant.

"And who the hell are you, meat sack?"

Adam Smasher gave David a sidelong glance. "Another one of those Hunters?"

He hadn't recognized David.

After all, Adam Smasher had no idea about the relationships between Maine's crew, Lucy, and David.

He was only here under Arasaka's orders—to capture one person and use them to threaten the "Hunters."

He didn't care which Hunter might come. He cared even less what the Hunters would do.

Long-standing as Night City's absolute force of power, Adam Smasher didn't believe that some upstart Hunters could pose any real threat…

"Adam Smasher, you bastard!! What the hell did you do to them?!"

David's forehead veins bulged as he glared at Adam Smasher, stepping toward him one foot at a time.

"I was just looking for you people." Adam still gripped Lucy's neck, staring at David. "That weapon of yours… really pisses me off."

Seeing the Gunlance in David's hands, Adam remembered the punk who wore a weird helmet and fought him at the Konpeki Plaza.

He had been sure he crushed that kid's spine and stomach—and even blew his head open with a shotgun.

Yet now, another brat wielding the same weapon stood before him. Adam Smasher felt an overwhelming urge to tear him apart.

"Let her go, you mechanical piece of shit!" David stepped right up to him, head tilted up to meet Adam's gaze. "I swear I'll rip you apart bolt by bolt and turn you into a public toilet for Night City!"

"All talk, little punk. Stop pretending to be tough."

Adam sneered, yanking Lucy by the neck and swinging her like a weapon—right toward David.

If David blocked or dodged, Lucy would be smashed into paste.

This was Adam Smasher's bloody greeting for the fight.

But—faced with Lucy being flung at him like a projectile, David didn't hesitate.

He used his own body to catch her midair, bracing her in his arms—then drove his skull directly into Adam Smasher's mechanical arm.

The arm slammed into David's head, caving in his skull and face—so hard it should have burst his brain, enough force to kill any normal person instantly. Lucy, caught in David's embrace, saw the crater in his skull—and felt her heart plunge into despair.

But just as Adam Smasher dismissed David as yet another idiot and prepared to massacre the rest—

He suddenly felt his cybernetic arm held in place by an impossible force.

And then, before everyone's eyes, something beyond reason unfolded.

The boy—whose face and skull had just been crushed, even his brain matter splattered—was now holding Lucy in one arm while grabbing Adam Smasher's mechanical limb with the other. Amid a bone-grinding mechanical screech, he lifted Adam's arm high into the air.

And beneath that arm, David's head was grotesquely reforming—his flesh twisting and regenerating like some kind of demon.

Demon Series gear—crafted from Muzan's flesh, bones, and carapace—Hunter equipment designed with only one enhancement: an inhuman level of physical regeneration…

"FUCK YOU, ADAM SMASHER!! REMEMBER ME NOW?!"

David's reborn, monstrous face glared at Adam Smasher.

"GET READY TO BECOME NIGHT CITY'S NEXT TOILET!!!!!!"
