Chapter 116 - The Exam in Progress

"Everyone, be careful! Fly to a safe height, the Quintaped has a very strong jump!" After Penelope finished tending to Julia's wound, she immediately warned the other team members. The six students then gathered together and began to discuss their strategy against the Quintaped.

"Penelope, what do we do now?" a student asked. Since Penelope had officially taken over for Ivanna as the Ravenclaw Prefect at the start of the semester, everyone naturally deferred to her. The students all looked down at the Quintaped, which was crouching on the ground with its five legs and baring its sharp teeth, and they were at a loss as to what to do.

"To be honest, we aren't strong enough to deal with a Quintaped. It's practically immune to most of our spells," Penelope said slowly. "But as we've learned over the last two months, we can't just rely on spell-casting. We have to be flexible and use magic to create conditions that are favorable to us!"

She then began to explain the plan she had in mind. "Here's what we're going to do…"

Ten minutes later, the six students had finally finalized their battle plan against the Quintaped. Penelope and the other five Ravenclaws immediately went to work on their tasks without delay.

The most dangerous task in this battle plan was assigned to Penelope. She needed to face the Quintaped directly, gather as much information as possible about its attack methods, speed, and patterns, and distract it so that the other five would have enough time to set up their trap.

Penelope looked at the Quintaped on the ground and began to analyze it in her mind. From the one attack it had just made, she could tell that the Quintaped's movement on the ground was very fast. At a distance of about fifty meters, a person would not be able to react in time. Also, the height it jumped when it attacked Julia probably wasn't its full potential!

So, staring at the Quintaped below her, Penelope began to descend little by little. When she was about ten meters from the ground, the Quintaped's five taut legs suddenly contracted like a slingshot, and with a 'BANG!', its huge body leaped up, creating a circular gust of wind on the ground.

The other five Ravenclaws, who heard the sound from a distance, also began to set up the trap. Penelope had already started to ascend when she saw the Quintaped's legs move, but even with her quick reaction, she was still nearly bitten by the Quintaped.

Twelve meters!

This must be the maximum jumping height of the Quintaped. But as Penelope looked at the Quintaped at the same height as herself, a cold sweat broke out on her forehead. If her eyesight hadn't been good enough to see the Quintaped's legs twitch and instinctively dodge, she would have lost at least one of her legs.

Judging from the fact that the Quintaped waited for her to get closer before attacking, this magical creature must have some intelligence. It wasn't just a mindless beast that attacked and ate people, as the studies suggested.

After roughly determining the Quintaped's maximum jumping height, Penelope began to use the cloning spell they had used to trick Lockhart to constantly test the Quintaped's attack speed and methods.

In reality, the Quintaped's attack speed was self-explanatory; its most notable feature was its strange attack methods.

First, the Quintaped's five ankles could rotate 360 degrees. This meant that it was like a roly-poly toy that could never be knocked down unless you chopped off its five legs.

Second, the Quintaped had two ways of attacking on the ground.

One was to keep its body low to the ground to conceal itself. Once it found a prey, it would rush to the prey at a very high speed, and then, like a spider or an octopus hunting, it would open its five legs and drag the prey into its bloody maw.

The second method was for flying prey. It would leap high, attacking from below like a shark in the water, and then entangle the prey with its five legs.

And so, for the next period of time, Penelope gathered information while using the cloning spell to distract the Quintaped, keeping it from bothering her other five team members.

With less than ten minutes left in the exam, Julia suddenly flew over from a distance, waving her hand and shouting, "Penelope, it's ready!"

"Alright!" Penelope waved back, and Julia then shot a firework into the sky.

Bang!!

A few fireworks then also exploded in the sky above the Forbidden Forest in the distance. When Penelope saw that everything was ready, she and Julia immediately began to use the cloning spell to lure the Quintaped toward the trap with its different attack patterns.

Soon, the two of them led the Quintaped to the foot of a mountain. The Quintaped leaped high, and its five thick legs tightly wrapped around Penelope's cloned body in mid-air. It was at that moment that a voice came from not too far away.

"Now!"

Instantly, two Incarcerous spells hit the immobilized Quintaped in mid-air, paralyzing it for a short time. At the same time, two Confringo spells blasted a large, teetering rock off the mountain. It took less than three seconds for the giant rock to roll down the mountain, and it was precisely that amount of time that it took for the Quintaped to fall from mid-air to the ground.

The paralyzed Quintaped was hit squarely by the giant rock as soon as it landed. And in addition to the giant rock, there was also a pit created by the Defodio spell beneath the Quintaped, with some sharp rock spikes that had been Transfigured. As a result, the Quintaped was pierced through by the weight of the giant rock.

But the exam wasn't over yet. Following the "postmortem" principle that Victor had taught them, Penelope and the other five Ravenclaws all pointed their wands at the Quintaped and began to continuously blast it with a barrage of spells, using whichever spell had the most power.

Soon after, the thirty-minute time limit for the exam finally came to an end. Victor flew over from the distance to check on the situation. He looked at the mangled Quintaped under the giant rock and sighed helplessly, putting his hand on his forehead. "I went all the way to Drear to catch this…"

He then looked at the nervous Penelope and the other five Ravenclaws.

"But I still have to say, you did a great job!"

"Congratulations! All of you have earned an 'O' (Outstanding)!"
