Chapter 118 - Flames That Broke the Calm

The four girls in Ravenclaw.

Scarlia: At first, she wanted to choose Giant Magic because she wanted to use it to grow taller, but this choice was immediately rejected by a whack on the head from Victor, as he found this reason completely unacceptable. So in the end, she chose Light Magic.

Cho Chang: She chose Solid Script Magic, which is a unique magic that allows one to materialize "words" and then have their meaning take effect on the opponent. For example, writing the word "Silence" in thin air could make the surroundings quiet instantly.

Luna Lovegood: She chose Take Over Magic (modified). The reason it was modified was that Luna loved magical creatures, but the animals taken over by Take Over Magic would all die. So, Victor used Origin to modify the magic power structure of her Take Over Magic, allowing her to keep a certain magical creature by her side and synchronize her magic power with it. She would then gradually achieve the same effects as Take Over Magic.

However, synchronization required a relatively long period of time, and the duration would fluctuate depending on the magical creature she was synchronizing with, unlike Take Over Magic, which allowed her to use the power directly.

Penelope Clearwater: She chose Spatial Magic. She chose this because she was the only one in the entire Fairy Tail Guild who could sense the power of space.

As for the Slytherins, there was no need to explain.

Draco Malfoy: He chose Water Magic. The reason he chose this was simply because he had a rivalry with Harry. After all, everyone knows that water can put out a fire!

However, while the members of Fairy Tail were training their magic in the middle of this cold winter, something that no one had anticipated broke the calm that had lasted for more than two months at Hogwarts.

It was midnight, and Victor was sleeping soundly in his dormitory bed. But all of a sudden, a huge fire broke out in the Forbidden Forest, and a series of dragon roars echoed, waking up every single student at Hogwarts.

"What's going on?"

Many of the students got out of bed and peered out of their windows that overlooked the Forbidden Forest, curious to know what was happening in the middle of the night.

Of course, Victor was also woken up. He came to the window, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, and saw a pillar of fire erupting from the forest below and lighting a large area of the trees on fire.

"Norbert?!" Victor frowned, and instantly knew the source of the fire. The dragon that had been born in Hagrid's hut last year had been raised by Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest. But it was strange. Norbert shouldn't have gone crazy like this. Something must have happened.

So, Victor opened the window and leaped out, instantly transforming into his Animagus, a Bifang, and flew toward the Forbidden Forest. As soon as he was above the Forbidden Forest, the Bifang opened its mouth and swallowed all the flames. It then landed in front of the dragon and transformed back into its human form.

"Norbert! Norbert! Calm down!" Victor quickly reached out to soothe Norbert, who had grown to be the size of a bus.

Hearing Victor's voice, the dragon slowly calmed down. But it was still breathing heavily, and the rumbling in its throat had not stopped. This meant that it was very anxious and agitated!

It was at this moment that Dumbledore also arrived right behind him.

"Victor, what happened?"

"I don't know. I just got it to calm down," Victor replied with a frown. "Norbert was born not long ago, and I used a spell to create a contract between it and Hagrid. It wouldn't do something like this unless Hagrid or I ordered it to. I'm guessing something must have happened to Hagrid. There was such a huge commotion just now, but he still hasn't shown up. Perhaps Norbert sensed this, which is why it went berserk!"

"Hagrid…"

After hearing Victor's analysis, Dumbledore also realized this. He had always known that Norbert was being raised in the Forbidden Forest, but he had chosen to turn a blind eye to it.

At the same time, as Victor had just said, Norbert had caused such a huge commotion and burned down a large area of the forest, but Hagrid, its owner, had not shown up, which was very unusual.

So, with Norbert's guidance, the two of them walked to the shore where the Forbidden Forest met the Black Lake. Not far away, on a rocky beach, Hagrid was half-submerged in the water, holding a crossbow, his body completely stiff. The magical lamp he had been using for light had also been smashed into pieces on the ground.

"Petrification Curse, how is this possible?!" Dumbledore knelt down to check, and then looked at Victor in surprise. "Isn't the Basilisk in your guild?"

"Don't look at me, I'm just as confused as you are! But I can guarantee that the Basilisk is still in the guild; there's no way it could have escaped! And besides, even if it did escape, I have already sealed its eyes. Even if Hagrid had looked it straight in the eye, his half-giant blood would have prevented him from being affected, wouldn't it?" Victor said with a bewildered expression and a frown.

He then checked the area around Hagrid but didn't find any traces of a large animal, so he began to ask, "Professor, do you know of any other magical creatures besides a Basilisk that have the ability to petrify someone?"

"Other than a Medusa, there are no other magical creatures with that ability," Dumbledore replied.

"Then this is very strange. Medusas are long extinct. If it was a Basilisk, where did this one come from?" Victor scratched his head, then continued to ask, "Professor, when the house-elves were cleaning the drainage pipes before, did they find any traces of a second Basilisk?"

"If there was one, I would have captured it long ago," Dumbledore shook his head and replied, "I was worried about that at the time, so I also instructed the house-elves to pay special attention to the existence of a second Basilisk. But even after all the ice in the pipes was cleared, other than a few shed scales, nothing was found."

"Wait… now that you mention it, I suddenly thought of a very suspicious place!" Victor raised his eyebrows, looking thoughtful. "The Chamber of Secrets was built in a cavern outside the school's drainage pipes, so the house-elves probably didn't clean that area when they were clearing the ice."

"What do you mean?"

"Beneath the Chamber of Secrets, there is another dark pool, and it holds a ring that was most likely left by Salazar Slytherin," Victor explained. "I didn't check the surroundings carefully when I found this dark pool. Could there have been another Basilisk living there?"

"Your theory isn't impossible…"

"Whether it's possible or not is still just a guess," Victor waved his hand in the air. "Alright, Professor. You take Hagrid to Madam Pomfrey, and I'll go check out the dark pool beneath the Chamber of Secrets right now."

With that, without waiting for Dumbledore to agree, Victor instantly disappeared from the lakeshore.
