Chapter 2 - [The Porter]

Flame looked at the Call's description and let out a dejected sigh. He somewhat felt pity.

For Javier, who received this Call.

"first, this whole thing is garbage. Especially, the prince. He is the worst garbage of garbage. How can he lust for his own sister? Maybe the king had many wives, but that doesn't mean he will lust for his own blood! he had to have some screw loose. Second…what is with the name? Anzi? Seriously my mom has better naming sense the princess, just what is happening with these oldies"

Flame clicked his tongue and decided to ignore the Call.

soon, he reached the City Plaza.

There he saw his remainder of his team gathered. All of them looked rough, exhausted from their own missions.

Fortunately, no-one was missing any limbs or eyes

or, it would have been a catastrophe if he had to carry limbs back.

He calmy walked there, deciding not to disturb them

"oh! Flame you are back"

A lazy voice called out Flame.

His eyes fell on the beautiful young woman who was resting by the side of the fountain wall and yawning. Her beautiful long black hair was tied in bun contrasting her Royal Grade silver armour.

"yes, but what is with this Call?. Seriously, it looks like a someone's prank to me. I am telling you its False Call"

The young lady was shocked a little, but she eventually smiled slightly, amused from listening to Flame words while a firm voice chimed in

"seriously boy! do you think we wouldn't know what a False Call looks like? Or are you saying you know better than us?"

This voice sounded much firmer and deeper than the young Lady. Sitting on the fountain's periphery, the young man had lean physique and shoulder-long blond hair.

Flame was sure, that all of them must have had a rough time fighting off the horde of the Awakened monsters, but this gentleman didn't show even a speck of fatigue and sat with a strait back. As though it was below him to show exhaustion.

"Mathew! That is rude" the young lady berated Mathew

"then, tell him to just shut his mouth! We don't have much time left inside the Rift…thanks to a nuisance" he clicked his tongue before he stood up and walked away from plaza.

Flame just stood there silently and didn't say anything. he couldn't deny Mathew's words. Afterall it was the nuisance's fault, not Flame's. He was just venting out his anger.

"don't take his words to heart Flame! You know he has some problems" the young lady smiled at Flame and patted the empty ground beside her

"no! I don't mind Miss Belle. I am too old to get mad over from words alone" Flame said as walked over and sat down

"oh? So, our Little Flame thinks he is Fire now? if I remember correctly, your just turned fourteen last month, then you must be no some near Madam Samantha's son?"

Belle pouted her lips deliberately and gestured towards on ground, where the other member of the team was laying down, seemingly asleep. Unlike Belle, Madam Samantha looked much mature, both in personality and appearance.

Of course, that would be natural, considering that Madam Samantha is the mother of two kids and had been an Awakened for around twenty years. Also, that was one of the major reasons why she treated all the others members of the team like her children.

She seemed to have dismissed her armour as she was only wearing a long black tunic on her pale white skin, almost lining out her mature figure.

'I am already a teenager dammit!'

Flame quicky turned away in shame and felt Belle smiling at him

"see? What I said"

Flame retorted, hiding his red face "no! you are wrong. I am turning 15 this year not 14. I am already eligible to enter the academy. The same academy where you, Mathew and Javier study"

"…" Belle fell silent as she couldn't find right words to reply.

Flame, seemingly realized the reason of his words, but didn't had the courage to correct them.

Belle smiled and said calmy "don't worry Flame. don't be too hard on yourself. I am sure, you will also receive an Ancient's Call soon. In fact, I believe, you will also get an amazing Lineage along with it!."

Flame listened to the words 'Ancient's Call' and 'Lineage' and sighed inwardly

Ancient's Call.

Different people have different theories and even after nearly a two centuries has passed since the first Call, no one knows what they are exactly.

Flame had only heard from others that when someone receives a Call it is like an otherworldly feeling. Sometimes it feels amazing, sometimes it feels like gutting your bowls out.

And the feeling is induced directly from the murmurs of the past.

an unknown past.

As soon as someone starts hearing murmurs, they will be eligible to become an Awakened. all they have to do is decode the murmurs and find out its Origin and finish the corresponding conditions mentioned.

Sometimes, the origin of the call might lie on some ancient mountains, sometimes it will be a desolated city, or even sometimes it might not on earth.

Like the call which Javier received.

They were currently in a place behind the Rifts which has been given the name of Tyrant's Marble City.

Flame knew what Belle was trying to do, but he had long left the inspiration to become an Awakened. he would turn 15 this year, which was the average age to become an mid-level Awakened, with an almost saturated mana core.

But Flame? he didn't even have a Mana core.

So, he thought it is best to focus on other jobs made for Descendants, rather than to wait for the Call to become an Awakened.

Like the job of Porter.

"yeah! But I think my current job is paying enough. Also, Lucy helps me a lot to bring some money here and there… as for after year or two, after you graduate…well, lets say I will also be joining Lucy"

Belle couldn't help but feel dispirited after listening to Flame's words. Not all Awakened need a porter. The technology of today's age is much more advanced to have artificial spatial storage device which can store almost anything.

But it was different for the academy's students. They are strictly prohibited from using any sort of Artificial Artifacts.

And unfortunately, none of the team members had any spatial storage Ancient Relics as well

'And 'fortunately', they are my team'

Flame shook his head, clearing away the gloomy thoughts, when suddenly the communication device in his ears buzzed violently.

Belle wanted to say something to cheer up Flame, but her attention quickly diverted to the strangely buzzing communication device.

Buzz!Buzz!Buzz!

The communication device buzzed more violently than normal, almost making the Awakened Belle wince

Time passed naturally, but no one heard anything

Immediately, Belle looked at Flame.

"do you hear anything?"

Flame shook his head "No"

They both looked at each other and felt something very wrong. Only Javier and Mathew were out there. one of the strongest members of the team, but still not strong enough for the al mighty Rifts

Mathew shouldn't have gone out of the city as it has only been a couple of minutes since, he left the plaza. Madam Samantha had also, woken up as she was looking at Flame and Belle.

That only leaves

"Javier…" Belle couldn't complete her words as her fear came true when she felt the familiar presence standing beside her

Mathew looked pale and exhausted, but he ignored it and scanned his gaze over the team.

"He is fighting the whole horde. we need to move…quickly"
