Chapter 45 - Extorsion

Spending Money to Work, Is There Any Justice in This World?

Roy thought of the fat, shut-in brother from the Zoldyck estate—the poster child of eating, gaming, and doing nothing all day.

When it came to combat? Mediocre at best.

But when it came to hacking, tinkering with machines, and building props, Milluki Zoldyck was second to none.

The surveillance glasses in Zi Po Nian's hand were probably his handiwork.

Figures. Otaku tech meets family-grade espionage.

"Beep beep…"

A shrill ringtone interrupted Roy's thoughts. It came from Zi Po Nian's pocket.

She glanced at Roy nervously.

"…Answer it," Roy said blandly, arms crossed.

"Y-Yes."

She quickly accepted the call—only to have Roy overhear the unmistakable voice of Silva Zoldyck on the other end:

"One billion Jenny… and a giant dragon. It's private."

His tone was calm. Simple. But stupidly extravagant.

Roy blinked in disbelief.

One billion Jenny plus a dragon?

The money alone was jaw-dropping—half of Roy's life savings—but the dragon?

That was priceless.

A true monster from the Dark Continent, and something no other family outside the Zoldycks could even dream of taming. Not even the mighty Kakin Empire had one.

In the original canon, Netero had to team up with Zeno and ride a dragon into the Eastern Gorteau Republic to face the Chimera Ants.

Now Silva was just… offering one?

Too good to be true.

Roy's mouth twitched. "What's the condition?"

Silva's voice followed smoothly: "Return to the family."

As expected.

Yeah, I knew it. This fart couldn't stay in the ass for long.

Returning meant chains. Leashes. Subordination.

Roy rolled his blind eyes. "Try another condition."

"I have only one request," Silva repeated, unwavering.

"Forget it."

FLASH!

Roy's staff blade lit up in an instant, flaring so brightly that Zi Po Nian had to shut her eyes. When she opened them—

Slice!

Her phone—and the surveillance glasses—lay split clean in half on the floor.

"Tell Silva," Roy said coldly, "I'll take the money. I'll take the dragon. And I'll pick them up myself—when I get home."

"Because he owes me."

"…Yes, Young Master." Zi Po Nian opened her mouth to speak again, but froze when she saw Roy pull out a small black notebook from his coat pocket.

He began writing.

"Silva… one billion plus a dragon."

"Killua… owes 100,000 Jenny. Ten days overdue. That's 1 million total."

"Spiders… one billion per person. Three captured. That's three billion…"

Zi Po Nian's face twisted.

Wait—what?!

She couldn't help but interrupt, "Cough—Young Master, didn't you originally say the Phantom Troupe ransom was one billion total for Uvogin, Nobunaga, and Shizuku combined…?"

Roy paused.

Then slowly turned his head.

Even without eyes, his gaze felt like a guillotine dropping.

"Are you teaching me how to do business?"

Zi Po Nian's hair stood on end. She didn't dare breathe.

"The extra two billion," Roy continued, "is my labor fee."

"Do you think knocking out three members of the Troupe is easy? Shouldn't I get paid for hard work?"

"…Yes, yes! My mistake, please forgive me, Young Master!" Zi Po Nian bowed deeply, nearly falling over herself.

What can I even say? He makes robbery sound so justified…

Roy yawned, waving lazily. "Forget it. No need to apologize."

"But if you really feel bad… why not offer something useful?"

His pen scratched again.

"July 1st. Zi Po Nian owes 100,000 Jenny for 'emotional damages.'"

Then he smiled and said:

"So… you paying now?

Or paying now?"

Zi Po Nian: "…"

Can I at least pretend to have the option of 'later'?

She tried to reason, smiling bitterly. "Y-Young Master, my phone is gone… I can't transfer the money now. I'll pay you when we return. Is that alright?"

"No need to delay."

Roy replied calmly, putting the notebook away.

"We'll stop by the bank later. I want to see how much that old fart Maha left me anyway. If it's not at least 100 million, I'm filing a formal complaint."

Zi Po Nian: "?!!! Yes!! Right away!"

I'm doomed. This kid doesn't miss a cent.

Just when she thought the madness was over, Roy walked over to the three craters in the ground—where the unconscious forms of Uvogin, Nobunaga, and Shizuku lay buried from earlier.

He stomped down.

BOOM!

With a groan, the trio were ejected from the earth, their bodies limp and clearly knocked out cold from Roy's earlier "Gravity Blade: White Tiger Fang."

Well, at least that saves me the trouble of dragging them out…

Roy crouched down next to Uvogin, rummaging through his coat.

From an inner pocket, he pulled out a mobile phone, flipped it open, and checked the contacts.

Without hesitation, he dialed.

The line clicked.

"Yo~ This is Uvogin! You got someone tied up again, or what?!"

Roy smiled faintly.

"Nah, but I've got you tied up."
