Chapter 1 - The Blind Boy of Kukuroo Mountain

Dentora, Republic of Bartocia.

"Wooooo—"

A sightseeing tour bus rumbled along the winding road leading to Kukuroo Mountain—the home of the infamous Zoldyck family.

At the front of the bus, a chipper tour guide in a frilly pink outfit stood with a mic in hand. Her voice was bright and rehearsed, perfect for keeping the tourists entertained.

"The Zoldyck family~ the world's most feared assassin clan. Passed down through five generations—each member is a living weapon!"

Her name was Ke Kelu, and she continued energetically, "There's a rumor… no target has ever escaped the Zoldycks. As long as you can pay the price, they'll complete any contract~!"

A few passengers gasped. Some whispered nervously. But in the back row of the bus, a deep and mocking scoff cut through the mood.

"Tch. Enough with the ghost stories, Cocoa-chan."

The speaker was a broad, hairy man with a sharp grin and predator's eyes. His voice dripped with disdain as he leaned forward, exposing thick chest hair beneath an open shirt.

"We're the Mani Brothers. And we're not scared of bedtime tales."

Seated beside him was an even larger man—his younger brother. Towering and wide like a boulder, he occupied two seats by himself. The floor beneath him creaked ominously.

Clearly, these weren't average tourists. Their build, their presence—it screamed trouble. Bounty hunters, most likely.

Ke Kelu's expression stiffened for a moment. She had seen their type before.

"You're free to believe what you like," she said with a polite smile, "but in my years as a guide, not one person who stepped onto Zoldyck property ever returned."

The elder Mani scoffed again.

"Please. 'Assassins,' 'killers'—in the end, they're still human. And humans bleed."

He patted the bulging backpack between his feet—packed with explosives and confidence.

Just then—

Screeeeech—

The bus came to a halt at a roadside stop. The door hissed open with a pshh, and footsteps echoed as a young man stepped aboard.

He looked to be around fifteen or sixteen. Handsome, calm—and unmistakably blind. He carried a white cane in one hand and a plastic bag of groceries in the other. The bag bulged with vegetables, fruits, and meat.

His eyes were cloudy, unfocused—but his steps were steady.

The entire bus went quiet.

Roy, as he was called, walked with unhurried grace. He tilted his head slightly toward the front and gave Ke Kelu a gentle smile.

"Miss Ke Kelu," he said softly, "you look lovely today."

The guide blushed. "Thank you, Roy-kun!"

Roy nodded slightly, catching the subtle scent of her shampoo. He tapped his cane forward and moved toward the back of the bus, searching for an empty seat.

Most were taken, except one spot—beside the Mani brothers.

The other passengers looked away. No one dared approach the two thugs. But Roy, blind and unconcerned, walked straight to the seat and sat down beside them without hesitation.

"Phew… hot day," he muttered.

Placing his bag down, Roy pulled out a popsicle and started eating it slowly, savoring the cold. His face was calm, relaxed, completely unbothered.

The elder Mani's eyes narrowed.

"Hey… You don't look like a tourist, kid."

He placed a heavy hand on Roy's shoulder. "Blind guy like you—what are you doing heading toward Zoldyck Manor, huh?"

There was a moment of silence. Then Mani leaned in, his voice low and full of suspicion.

"You're one of their servants, aren't you? Housekeeper? Running errands?"

Whispers erupted among the passengers.

"Eh? He might really be a butler!"

"Can't imagine a blind guy sightseeing…"

"But seriously—if the Zoldycks sent a blind boy down the mountain, that's brutal."

"What, you expect a family of assassins to be humane?"

A man laughed nastily. "Oi, blind kid! You work for the Zoldycks? You know if they really kill for any price—even V5 officials?"

The chatter grew louder. Even though Roy couldn't see, he could feel every pair of eyes locked onto him.

Still, he said nothing. He took another bite of the popsicle and let the icy chill ease down his throat.

The air grew tense.

Suddenly, there was a click.

The elder Mani had pulled out a switchblade—its blade gleamed in the sunlight. Without hesitation, he pressed it lightly against Roy's neck.

His voice dropped, threatening and low.

"Take us into Zoldyck Manor."
