Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

"Bitch..."

I muttered, staring down at the disintegrating corpse of the bear that killed me.

That took twelve times. Twelve times that this little shit killed me, I had to come back for the three thousand souls that wolf gave me each and every time, because levels were essential for me as of right now.

This was way harder than it had any right to be. It healed quite fast. Every time it got me, and I came back, the wounds I left on it were gone.

And timing the dodges was hard when you didn't have to simply press a button.

I got a whole six thousand from that, which was nice, leaving me with nine thousand to spend.

Opening my stat menu, I rounded up the strength to 15, along with Vigor to the same. Finally, I added a mere two points to Endurance, bringing it up to 8.

All that got me was six levels, it was progress, good progress for anyone in my situation.

I took a deep breath and looked down at the bear that I painstakingly bested in combat, raising an eyebrow at the small floating white orb in its place.

"Oh damn, a drop..."

I muttered and crouched down, my hand reaching for the white orb, which slowly got absorbed into my hand.

Please be a shield.

I begged in my mind, I wanted a shield, needed it desperately.

My face fell as I read the words that appeared on the screen that popped up.

Green blossom...

I groaned in despair. I should have known the drop rates would be the same trash that they were in the game. I didn't even know what dropped what.

I grumbled dejectedly as I opened my item menu and looked at the green blossom, then looked right next to it, spotting the single, unassuming Estus Flask...

I could feel my eye twitch, this would have been useful like a minute ago...

Ignoring my own stupidity for not checking my inventory, I equipped it in the first slot of my quick access.

I looked down at my waist as I felt a small weight settle on it, raising an eyebrow at the flask that appeared attached to it. It had a whole holder and everything.

I grabbed it and pulled it to my mouth, pulling down the cloth that was covering my face and taking a wary gulp.

It burned. It burned quite badly on the way down, and I cringed before the burn fizzled out into a pleasant feeling that radiated throughout my body.

I hummed pleasantly. This was nice, felt like drinking blazing fire, though it did leave a good aftertaste.

I felt a lot better, even as I felt the cracks in my bones mending suddenly, causing me to release a sigh of relief. It was nice when your body wasn't in constant pain, and I had a feeling I did not appreciate it as much as I should have before now.

I watched as the flask dimmed, turning gray, notifying me that it was empty. I hummed, putting the flask back in place at my hip and continued going in no particular direction; the moon was enough to light my way for now.

That was until the clouds covered it...

I cursed internally. The moon was already broken, it did not need to be covered. Come on, man, the universe is just making fun of me right now.

Nevertheless, I kept walking, even if I could only see a few feet in front of me.

The walk was quiet for the most part, with the occasional chirping of birds and a few rustles disturbing the quiet of the forest.

And very rarely, one of the giant wolves appeared through the woods. They were alone, thankfully, so beating them was only a matter of timing the dodges.

All in all, I encountered five wolves that I had somewhat memorized the moves of, or, more accurately, what a single one of them was capable of.

Those encounters left me with fifteen thousand souls, leaving me with fifteen thousand five hundred from what I had left over, but that didn't seem to matter since it still only gave me eight levels to work with.

Before I had a chance to lose any of this and not be able to get them back, I brought up my Vigor to twenty, and my adaptability to twelve, making me officially, soul level thirty.

Which, considering what I'm working with, is not much. If I were in the game, I'd already be near a hundred and fifty.

This was pathetic...

And I can't even farm a boss because from what I've seen, there isn't exactly a boss here, and neither is there a bonfire I could burn bonfire aesthetics at.

I didn't even have those...

I looked down at the dissolving wolf-like monster at my feet and poked it with my foot.

"Dissolve faster, I want my loot..."

I muttered, watching absently as it finally disappeared, leaving behind a white floating orb. I took a deep breath. This was my second drop since I came here, and I hoped it was a shield this time.

I leaned down, my hand absorbing the white orb, causing a screen to pop up in front of me.

I read over the text and sighed, I got pants... Pants!

Wolf Slayer Leggings, my left ass cheek, I want a shield!

I grumbled under my breath and went into my stat menu again, equipping the leggings, watching with a raised eyebrow as the armored pants replaced the imported ones.

I moved my legs to test the weight. It seemed nice, and it wasn't hard to move in, my calves were fully covered along with some plates on my thighs, but it did not restrict my movement at all.

And I now had armored feet... I had to test it out by trying to kick one of the monsters in the nuts sometimes, if they had any.
