Chapter 113 - Neriah's pet

His voice was deep and gentle.

The sound of it made her chest ache.

Past-Lara smiled up at him. "You worry too much, Alistair."

He shook his head, though there was a hint of a smile on his lips. "Someone has to."

Lara felt the warmth of his hand as if it were truly on her shoulder.

The memory felt real. Too real.

Then, just as suddenly, it faded.

Lara gasped as the hall came back into view. She stumbled, and Dorian caught her arm quickly.

"Lara? What happened?" Wanda asked.

At that same moment, one of the Duke's men hurried in through a side door.

"Your Grace, forgive me for the interruption," the man said, bowing quickly. "I have urgent information you need to hear."

The Duke's jaw tightened. He clearly disliked being disturbed, but he nodded. "What is it?"

The man stepped closer and leaned in, whispering into the Duke's ear. Draven's expression shifted, first surprise, then concern.
