Chapter 35 - chapter 35

Just as she was done, she gave a nod to the guard watching.

Megumi was taken to the front deck where he was asked about his name and his crime. After he finished the registration, the guard handed him a set of clothes.

"Take this. It will be your uniform," the prison guard said.

Megumi was then escorted by another guard.

He was eventually brought to a prison room where three men were waiting.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" one of them sneered.

"A new toy, hahaha," said a broad-chested man with a wicked grin.

The other two prisoners looked broken. Their faces made it clear they had already been through hell at the hands of the big man.

"Hey, kid. Come and massage my leg and I won't hurt you," the large man said, smiling as he sat back on his bed.

"Ok," Megumi replied, but his lips curled into a ferocious smile. He walked toward the man's foot.

Crack!

The grin vanished from the man's face as Megumi suddenly grabbed his leg and snapped the bones.

The prisoner screamed in agony. In that moment, he remembered who this boy was and that he should never have been sent here.

"Oh, I forgot. That boy was brought in for beating up a Uchiha police officer," one of the guards outside the cell gate said casually.

"Damn you, you should have warned me!" the prisoner roared, clutching his broken leg.

Elsewhere

Kurenai and her friend were walking home as the sky grew dark.

"Kurenai, is Uncle coming back today?" Anko asked, breaking the silence.

"Huh? Yes… I guess so," Kurenai replied distantly, barely paying attention.

Anko frowned. She could not understand why Kurenai was so lost in thought.

"Don't tell me you're thinking about that brat again," Anko said as she stopped walking.

But Kurenai continued on without even glancing back.

"Do you think he was right about what he said concerning shinobi today?" Kurenai asked, still walking.

"That kid doesn't know anything about what he was saying!" Anko shouted, rushing forward and grabbing Kurenai's shoulder. "That boy was just spouting rubbish, ok?!"

They finally arrived at Kurenai's house. The light inside was on, meaning someone was already home. The only person it could be was her father.

Both girls stepped inside and saw a man in his late forties setting food on the dining table.

"Hello, Dad," Kurenai greeted him in a flat tone. "Welcome back."

Anko scowled at Kurenai's expression, clearly upset. "What the hell is wrong with you?" she snapped.

Shinku Yūhi could tell something was troubling his daughter, but he trusted that if she wanted to share, she would.

"It's alright. Calm down, both of you," he said, joining them at the table. "Now, let's eat."

As they ate, Anko was unsurprisingly the biggest eater of the three.

"Dad, what was your dream when you were at the academy?" Kurenai suddenly asked.

Shinku raised his brows, caught off guard by the question.

"Well, I had a lot," he admitted. He put down his chopsticks, realizing this conversation might stretch late into the night.

"Tell me some," Kurenai pressed, setting her own food aside.

Shinku leaned back, thinking.

"When I started the academy, I dreamed of becoming Hokage.

When I went to war, I dreamed of becoming a strong shinobi.

When I became a squad leader, I dreamed of being the best teacher for my team.

And when I met your mother, I dreamed of becoming the best father I could be."

He exhaled slowly, then looked at Kurenai. "Why are you asking me these questions?"

"Huh? Nothing," Kurenai brushed it off quickly.

"She's lying, Uncle," Anko mumbled with her mouth full.

"Shut up, and don't talk while eating," Kurenai warned, shooting her a dangerous glare.

"What's your business with how I eat?" Anko retorted, swallowing the rest of her food with defiance.

"Anko, tell me what happened," Shinku said firmly.

Anko sighed and then began recounting everything. She explained how the Hyuga clan had clashed with Megumi, and how Megumi had effortlessly toyed with a police officer who possessed a two-tomoe Sharingan.
