"Why should I beg?" I asked, tilting my head with a smirk I couldn't hold back.
The whole thing was absurd.
She blinked at me, her eyes narrowing. "That means you're guilty if you don't want to beg," she shot back, her voice dripping with that self-righteous tone that made my skin crawl.
She was twisting this whole thing to fit her narrative.
"I'm not guilty," I said, meeting her glare head-on.
"But I know begging isn't going to make any difference because it's sure you aren't changing your mind about calling the lawyer."
"And besides, you wanted me to lie that we aren't married anyway."
She opened her mouth, probably to fire back some more accusations, but I cut her off.
"So what's the use of staying when you're scared your son isn't going to accept the marriage? Isn't it better that I leave before he realizes?"
